School work?
Every day was like any other day. My day started as early as 6 AM and ended mainly around midnight. This was my normal schedule. Immediately my alarm clock buzzed. I was awake and staring at the ceiling, my mind blank. Mostly an 18 years girl would have school work to think about
The future was bright for some and others it was blurry as if coated in thick fog and seeing my life I guessed that was my category
Ugh! All this was just simple hence I tossed the blankets off my aching body and away so I could get up and get ready. i was stunned mom didn't wake me up herself which I expected. She always did this every morning. I didn't have to set an alarm clock knowing my precious mother would always wake her baby up
Last night she had a fit. I spent the entire night at the hospital making sure she was okay and we came back around midnight
"This is good," I said, checking what I was going to wear, and tossed a few spare clothes on the bed. I was too exhausted to arrange for my uniform or the clothes I had to wear there now I had to do this
"Just great," I muttered and left for the bathroom. The day was a little cold. Just how I liked it. Getting in the bathroom I stripped off my loose sweatshirt and pants tossing them aside with my leg and tiptoed to the shower room
"Jeez", turning on the shower, a shiver ran through me when the cold icy water fell on my vulnerable skin, the warmth disappeared and was replaced by a cold sensation that had my teeth chattering. Glancing around I guess dad forgot to pay electricity bills and now we were doomed to bathing water
This wasn't new. I guess I could pay a little on my home back just to have a little hot water on a come day like this
"Done...now where is that bow tie?"I muttered while wrapping the towel around my body and stepping out of the shower room. I had to say today was extra cold. Looking outside my mini bedroom window. I could tell by the thick fog how bad the day was. I loved a little sunshine, it brought a smile to people's faces whenever the sun rose and shone brightly, this little town was different. the sun was rare to see
I guessed it was because of the forests we had here and lakes and rivers around as well as mountains. Keeping that aside I returned to the bed. Everything was ready. I had little time to eat breakfast and catch the bus
Exactly at 6:15 AM, the bus didn't come until later around ten. I had to hurry, hence drying my hair as quickly as possible. I started getting ready. It only took me five minutes to get ready. I wasn't a makeup girl to spend hours in front of the mirror
"Mom! I'm off to school" I shouted for my mom as soon as I went downstairs. Our house wasn't so big like most houses around but it was a two-bedroom house. With a small kitchen and a sizable living room..we had a small attic. A small library my mom made for me for a convenient study area. I was grateful that mom was mindful to do that for me
"Heyom," I said as I got to the living room. She was lying on the couch and I guess my yelling woke her up
"I already made breakfast for you...and also packed some lunch for you" my mom spoke in a small low voice when I hugged her. It wasn't as if she didn't want to stand but my mom had cancer. Her legs weren't doing alright hence she couldn't watch. The doctors gave her some crutches at first unfortunately things got worse when she couldn't stand on her own hence I requested a wheelchair
"Thanks, Mom...I already packed,"I said, staying in her arms for a little while. She smiled and pressed me on her chest so lovingly. There was one thing I loved about mom. She never made her pain known to others but I knew and felt her pain
"It's okay sweetie...hurry up now...we don't want you to be late for school," mom said, pulling me off her chest and cupping my face. I hated seeing her like this. My mom was a beautiful woman. She was an amazing woman unfortunately her illness had gotten the best of her. She never smiled like before
"Okay Mom, I love you, "I said, kissing her cheek and forehead before I grabbed my backpack from the other sofa and draped it over my shoulder. Melissa Anderson was a lovely mother. Despite her inability to walk. She works up early to make breakfast for me
I said goodbye to her, and although I was hesitant to leave I had to go. I already wore my large black coat for warmth and once I stepped outside my house. A cold shiver ran through my body as I adjusted the coat close. Glancing up I was stunned to see some snowflakes on the leaves and flower petals. The sky was a gray-white color. The wind blowing would freeze anyone stepping out but I shook my head and rushed down a couple of stairs leaving my porch and rushing to our small gate. I needed to catch the bus unfortunately when I stepped out. I found an old van parked right by the gate
Scanning the perimeter for any noisy neighbors who did nothing but poke their noses in other people's business. I ran down the van and when I reached there. I reached for the window and knocked a few times. It didn't take a while before the window rolled down and that smell of cigarettes mixed with mints and old cologne greeted me reminding me of our attic
"What's up baby doll...hop in"I was greeted by Shawn, and yes he was smoking and all. Waving the cigarette smoke off my face, I nodded and walked to the other side. Forget taking a bus to school. Who was I kidding? I settled in the passenger's seat and exhaled a little and glanced over at Shawn wearing a black cap covering her face
"Again with the shallow uniform Danny ''Shawn scoffed, scanning me from head to toe. I knew I was living a lie but what choice did I have
"Just drive, dummy, "I said with a glare and fixed my hair. Shawn didn't utter a word but popped his gum ball and started the car. This was my life, I lied to mom that I was still in school when I was not.
