"You're going to go with Axel's girlfriend back in New York, boss?" Bert asked, who had been the estate’s steward for a long time. He was brought to check on the problem of his car being broken down by a beautiful woman in the middle of the road yesterday. Fortunately, it happened along the property area of the estate of Griffin, so no one would have the courage to touch it because most of the workers were afraid of him. But it's still hard to be at ease.
That woman is sinfully beautiful to be unnoticed.
"Have you gotten all the parts that need to be replaced?" he asked Bert. He didn't want to talk about the beautiful woman because she was Axel's girlfriend. He didn’t want to involve himself in any woman close to Axel for so many reasons. They had so many misunderstandings that he didn't want to add more to it. Since they reached puberty stage, his stepbrother was always jealous of him and he wanted to end it. He didn't want to add more to the displeasure of his stepfather Charles who initially got offended because he wanted both of them to get along.
"I've listed already, boss. Are you sure you're going to buy them in New York?"
"I have a few things to take care of there. I just thought if I can do it together to drop by to buy the parts needed." He wipes his hands full of grease and then throws the rag on the table just one step away from him. For a long time, he and Bert were the ones repairing the damaged vehicles on the estate, including the tractor they used on the farm. Bert is smart enough about the mechanical mechanics of vehicles, and he is also passionate about getting involved in that kind of thing.
"So, you're probably going to New York to avoid Fiona, right? I’m pretty sure she will come here again to invite you to the mayor’s birthday party."
He smiled lightly at Robert and then shook his head. Everyone on the estate knows who Fiona is in his life. Until now, Fiona’s name was still connected to his, even though she has been married to Axel for almost two years.
"It would be better if we stay away from troubles."
"You know, I still can't believe that Fiona married your brother. Axel had so many women. Like now, he was even with another woman out of the country and then yesterday a woman came who was looking for him. Fiona was the only girlfriend that you had for a long time, and then he took her away from you?"
He wanted to end the conversation with Bert because that would not help his feelings. Until right now he was still in pain that his ex-girlfriend cheated on him. He and Fiona started their relationship when they were in college. They were childhood best friends that turned into lovers.
But they ended up as brother and sister-in-law. On what he did wrong or failed to do, he didn't know.
"Then Axel didn't take his marriage to Fiona seriously, right?" Bert continued.
"It's their decision, Bert. Curiosity killed the cat."
After getting the list of parts he needed, he went back to the mansion. It is almost dinner time and he needs to travel early tomorrow. He had booked a reservation room at the Hotel Chelsea where he would stay for two nights in New York.
"Where’s Dad?" he asked the helper as he entered the mansion. If there's one person who he cares about for him right now, that is Charles Griffin. The man who treated him as a real son despite not being related by blood.
"He’s still in the library, Sir Nick," the helper replied. "Should I prepare your dinner, sir?"
"I will eat with Dad."
He went to his room and took a shower. He spent the whole day in the fields because the corn harvest was near.
After a quick shower, he went to the balcony to get some air. It's too early for dinner. But his plan to rest was interrupted by the woman in the other room who was also on the balcony to spend time. The woman he wanted to avoid but instead of succeeding, his father was eager to push her closer to him.
Their gazes met, but he didn't smile and immediately turned his eyes away to the woman. He didn’t wait for five seconds, he decided to go back inside the room again. He had no idea why she was still here, despite Axel not being here, and that she obviously shouldn't talk to her boyfriend. Axel is a married man. His wife lives next to this property there will be chaos if Fiona finds out that there is a woman in the mansion right now who is having an affair with her husband. She should warn that woman to stay away from Griffin Estate.
And to stay away from Axel.
But he didn't want to get involved in the problems between the two. He also didn't want to have a reason to get along with a woman who would just give him a headache. It is undeniable that she has a strong s*x appeal besides the beauty that she has. However, whatever attraction he feels to the woman should not lead to anything else.
When it was about six o’clock, he went down to the dining room for dinner. It was also the time when Charles was there to eat early because he had to take his medicines regularly.
"You should go down with Camille." He didn't know if it was a suggestion or a command.
"Why is she still here, Dad? Is Axel already aware that a woman is chasing after him aside from the woman he is currently with out of the country?"
"Your brother's phone can't be reached, Nick. Let him go out of the country to have his pleasure trip. That boy was always like that."
"But that woman has to leave here. For sure, the whole part of the estate will find out who she is and what she is doing here. Don't you fear Fiona finding out about Axel's infidelity? The news in this town is faster than four o'clock."
That's a fact. Unless Fiona cheated on him. I think he was the last person to know that his girlfriend was being courted by his stepbrother behind his back.
"Relax... No one knows the true identity of Camille except the three of us and Mr. Bert and your driver. I told them that when someone asked, Camille was an important guest. You'll be the one to tour her to the estate when you get back from New York."
"She'll be back here at the estate?!" He couldn't stop his frustration. "Don't tell me you're doing this in favor of Axel and finally granting her annulment to Fiona? I thought you'd rather fix the relationship between those two?"
Before his dad responded to him, the woman he was talking about suddenly appeared. Their gaze met and his heart wanted to beat faster. He focused his attention on the food and moved fast and quickly began to eat. He didn't want her in front of him for a long period.
"Can you tell me something about yourself, Camille? How many brothers and sisters do you have?" his dad asked the woman. He didn't raise his gaze.
"I don't have any siblings," in a melodious voice she replied, as if it was like music in his ears. Oh, Lord... She has a bedroom voice a man could fantasize about. As if his heart wants to feel envious of Axel that despite him having a wife, women are still attracted to him.
Money can really do a lot of things.
Axel was gallant and had flowery words. If with such a beautiful woman, Axel would certainly not hesitate to pour on her expensive jewelry and a large amount of money.
His eyes glanced at the woman while answering Charles's questions. She doesn't have any expensive jewelry except her thin necklace and a watch from a not-so-expensive brand. Aside from that, Axel gave his old car to her. Did Axel at least take her to another country to travel, like he did with the woman who is with him right now in Europe?
"You and Nick are just the same person who likes to stay at home. Even though sometimes I want him to relax too because he always does a constant job on the farm," Charles said, interrupting him from looking at the woman. He didn't notice what the two were talking about. He had his conclusions about the woman.
He smiled before he gulped water to finish his meal.
"I'll go get some rest, Dad. I'm leaving early tomorrow."
"Both of you be careful, my son. Don't forget to take Camille with you so that I will not worry when she arrives in New York safely. And you're going to take her back here with you too, huh?"
He lightly nodded and then wiped the sides of his lips with a white cloth. How would he build a ten-hour trip tomorrow with a woman he doesn’t even know.
