Chapter 6

They would leave at four o’clock in the morning, so Camille prepared herself at three in the morning and was ready to go. She kept pacing in the room, which is why she had been so anxious now when she almost stayed here for three days and knew the people who were in the mansion. Nick has been unfriendly ever since the beginning. She heard the way he talks with the helpers, and he was kind to them. He was just trying to avoid her, as if she were a person with a highly communicable disease. She doesn’t know why. Is it because of the car that Axel gave him? Or does he think she was only chasing after his brother’s money because she had a relationship with a married man? It was four o’clock in the morning when she went down with her phone and a wallet in her shoulder bag. She did not bring any clothes because she had to return to the mansion to fulfill the agreement, she had with Charles Griffin. On how she would get along with Nick after they got married, that’s the thing she didn't know. Her mother's life got paid a lot—the life imprisonment for a marriage that she doesn’t want. "Ma'am Camille, Sir Nick is in the garage already. He’s been waiting there," the helper said, who approached her. "In the car already?!" She quickly walked out of the house. She hadn't even had her coffee; she’d been awake before. She’s certainly Nick, who was awake earlier. He even didn’t knock at her door so that she could go to the dining room. "Please lock my room, Tindy," she heard Nick say while he was already inside the car. She felt pressure to sit beside the driver’s seat. The scent of his perfume fills her system. She didn't know why, despite feeling anxious, her heart was even fluttering from her thoughts of being with him for a few hours together during the trip. I wish he would talk to her so she wouldn't have spoiled saliva. "G-good morning..." He glanced at her for a few moments while fixing his seat belt and checking the other things. He looks at the bags behind their backs, so that’s why their faces are almost close to each other. "Buckle up," he briefly said as he started the engine. He continued to drive quietly until they reached the way out of the estate. He had no plan to talk to her, so she decided to keep her eyes closed. They've been an hour into the road trip. She almost wanted to cry. Never in her life has she tried to please someone who doesn’t like her. If she only had other options, she would not go with him to New York. It was Charles’s suggestion so they could get along before they got married. But as cold as ice, the way Nick treated her. 'If you have to be naked in front of him, do it...' Will Nick be interested in her by chance? She's a charmer. Besides her beautiful face, she also had a beautiful curvy body. That is why Axel noticed and courted her. The only thing is, he was already a married man and such a womanizer. She didn't know how many hours she had slept. She was so exhausted that she hadn’t slept properly for two consecutive nights. When she woke up, they were in the middle of the road and were trapped in the traffic. It's already ten o'clock in the morning. How could the car run for only six hours while she spent about half of the day traveling on her way home from Florida? "Just drop me off after you turn to Greenwich Village," she said softly, while she felt enraged. Nick insists on not talking to her. His personality was far different from Axel being entertaining and friendly. Unsurprisingly, women are more attracted to her ex-boyfriend. This one was boring. When he turned to Greenwich Village, her hand was ready to open the door of the car. She couldn't wait to get out and get away from Nick. His silence was so insulting that she felt as if she had committed a grave sin for him not to talk to her. "I will be back on the next day to the estate. Where will I pick you up?" For the first time, he turns to look at her. She let out a spare smile. If only she could, she would never go back there and break the agreement she had with Charles. Her life will be miserable with Nick. "I-I can take care of myself. I'll be back in the estate when I’m done taking care of the other things that I needed to fix." She got out of the car and didn't even look back at him. She took the train to go to the hospital where her mom was admitted. She was undergoing her surgery. Charles only gave her two days to spend time with her mom and to ensure that the doctor’s operation would be successful. She leaned her back when she sat on the train while still confused by what was happening. She wanted to back off from marrying Nick and she wanted to stay away from the Griffin. It was true that she got hurt when Axel fooled her, and now adding to it the way Nick treated her. When she arrived at the hospital, her mom was still in the operating room. She waited for two hours before the doctor confirmed that the operation was successful. A mixture of happiness and sadness overwhelmed her. Griffin’s money saved her mother's life. The thing is, that in return was a lifetime living with Nick. She seemed to foresee the anger in his eyes when the young man found out that they would tie the knot. Even right now, he hardly doesn’t want to talk to her. He may not even go home to the estate just to avoid her. "It's his problem, not mine," she said to herself. Now she has to learn how to be numb to Nick's dull treatment of her. However, her mind wanted to oppose it because ever since during her childhood, she wanted to have a complete family. She even promised herself before that she would not be like her mother who supported her alone. She dreamed of having her own family. When her mother was moved into the private room, Camille fell asleep there. Her mother smiled when she saw her because she couldn't speak yet. She holds her hand and hugs her for a moment. She also has so many men in her life who always left her. They're the only ones who have each other right now. When her mother fell asleep again, she also tried to sleep on the long sofa inside the private room in which she was sure the bill was expensive. As the help of Charles, he gave are growing, her feet were sinking deeper into the debt to the old man. She didn't even know how to explain to her mother that she had found money to use for her surgery. After she assured that her mother was recovering well, she would leave her in New York to stay in Florida. She couldn't bring her mother there and see her real situation living with the man who she was going to marry. She called Mrs. Melissa the next day to take care of her mom until she was able to take her home. She needs to stay for one to two weeks in the hospital so that the doctors will observe her. Tomorrow, she needs to return to Florida. She will just drop by the apartment to get some more things. She asked Mrs. Melissa if she could be the one to take care of her mother every day and she would receive ten thousand dollars monthly. She was somehow at ease with her mother. She left a message for Armand that she would not be able to return to the estate. Armand was assigned by Charles to help them and provide for her mom’s needs in the hospital. Besides wanting to stay with her mom while she’s still recovering, she doesn't want to go with Nick. She knew that Charles was trying to get them along to get closer before they got married. But Nick was undeniably rude. As if she was in debt of gratitude to him to travel with him to New York and way back to Florida.
