Chapter 1
First day back to school. Nina is honking outside and I can hear the laughing and joking from my friends as they all call my name for me to join them in her black SUV. It's our first day of Senior year, our last year together. After picking up a piece of toast and throwing my bag on my back. I wave to my mother in the dining room and waltz out the front door throwing my hands up at my noisy friends so they know I'm coming. They are all crammed into Nina's SUV and I have no clue how I will squeeze in but we will find room.
"Get in. we are going to be late on our first day back!" she moans at me opening the passenger door as she gestures for Alex to jump into the back with Esme, Rachel, and Zack.
"And you two stop making out in the back of my car, I have just had it cleaned. If you want a romantic back seat story. How about you get your own car and your own license." she hisses at Zack and Rachel who are getting it on in the back seat making Esme look very uncomfortable.
"Why do I need a license and a car when you are my personal chauffeur and don't lie, I make your journeys so much better with my witty jokes and good looks and-"
"Okay shut up, I liked it better when you had your tongue down my friend's throat" Nina spits back at Zack. Zack and Rachel have been together for about 8 months, they got together just after me and Edward did. However, Edward is the year above us lot. So he is in his first year at Colorado State University. I haven't seen him since the first week of spring break, he went away with his friends for their final goodbyes before leaving for college and then he had to get settled in Colorado. I'm okay with the distance, he calls me almost every night and I'll see him in a few weeks for Esme's Party. Without a doubt, she has a Halloween party every year and she smashes all expectations. she's the organized, preppy member of our group.Nina, on the other hand, is our brain box, she's a lot smarter than anyone I know and she is never late for anything. That's why I carpool with her to school, so I'm never late either. She is also the girl you go to for clear advice, no matter the situation. Although she has never been in a relationship herself she is my agony aunt for all things 'boy' related.
Alex joint our group late, he missed freshman year as he spent it at Roosevelt instead of West Seattle. When he transferred at the start of Sophomore year he instantly joined our group because Esme went to elementary school with him. He is known as the joker in our group, well him and Zack. They both don't take life too seriously and like to see everything from the perspective of a comedian. Sometimes they are funny, only sometimes. The only difference between the two boys is Zack is with Rachel and Alex has never had a girlfriend, well not a serious one.
"Move the chair forward Hobbit I've got longer legs than you" Alex moans hitting the back of my chair, digging at the fact I'm only 5'1. Yet again.
"Oh I'm sorry, it's not my fault you're like Slenderman. Maybe that's why you have never had a girlfriend. You scare them away." Everyone joins in with my laughter. "Anyway, we are here now so just keep your knees to your ears for a couple more seconds. Plus I like being short, Asshole." I say defending myself.
"Well, I don't like it." He mumbles as we all jump out of the car. I slam my door shut and lean against it starring at Alex. "Well Alex, you don't have to. You're not my boyfriend. Edward is." He rolls his eyes and scoffs "Yeah. well, you're not my type anyway." We all walk into the building hearing the bell ring. Alex and I have always fought and we innocently pick on each other about the fact that both of us are either end of the height spectrum for our age. All of us have the same homeroom. I mean we are all best friends after all.
Lunch is my favorite time of day at school, not only because I get to eat but because since it's first day back my little group get together and share all the stories we have heard from our lessons that morning about spring break. Which normally include people hooking up or terrible drunken stories. The one to beat from last year was some girl fell out a window and broke both her legs after getting drunk with a bunch of college boys in New York. So far this year none are that interesting.
"Apparently, Chrissy got with-"
"Chrissy gets with everyone so nothing new there" Esme stops Zack mid-sentence as he is only telling us the information we already knew. We all knew Chrissy was a little bit of a... well slut. If you were male and in our year and you hadn't got with her you were probably either gay or taken but most of the time even that didn't stop her.
"I've never been with Chrissy" Alex chimes in. we all roll our eyes as we see Chrissy waltz over to our table.
"You're all coming to the start of senior year party tonight at Dan's house, Right?" she says leaning into Alex, trying so hard to put her breasts in his face. Or lack of.
"I do hope you'll be coming to Alex, we have never really got the chance to get to know each other" she continues. we all fight the urge to burst out laughing at the irony of Alex's previous comment.
Esme jumps in to save Alex. "we will all be there, Chrissy. wouldn't miss it for the world" An Extremely fake smile painted across her face while still sounding slightly irritated. Chrissy senses the tone and walks away but not before whispering something into Alex's ear that none of us could hear.
As she leaves we all let out the laughter we have been holding in. Alex does not join in but yet rolls his eyes and leans slumped in his chair, irritated by our amusement.
"Alex is Chrissy's new prey. Watch out tonight man, there are woods near Dan's, she might lure you out there" Rachel says forcing us all to laugh harder.
"Shut your girl up Zack. Anyway, she's not my type" Alex shoots daggers at Rachel while he shifts uncomfortably in his seat.
"Don't objectify Rachel like that she isn't Zack's property," I say defending her before Zack can. "Plus this morning you said I'm not your type and now neither is Chrissy. So if you don't like short brunettes or tall blondes, what do you like?" Alex is getting pissed off the more I speak, I can see it in his eyes. He does have beautiful blue eyes, although I'd never let him or his ego know that.
"Maybe he should try a ginger, I heard that redheads are in this year" Nina jokes, and the group continues to laugh and mock Alex's little situation.
"Whatever assholes, I'm going to lesson" Alex stands up and walks away. We have all clearly pissed him off but he will cool down by last period as Nina is his drive home. Zack walks off too, saying bye to Rachel and telling us he better follow Alex and calm him down.
As soon as the boys are out of sight us girls begin planning what we will wear later that night. We decided to pop into the mall after dropping the boys home from school before we go to Nina's to take the car home and all get ready. The bell rings and we all go to our next lesson. This is my first party without Edward being with me since we got together, I didn't go to any over the summer as I was working most of the time to save up money so this year I can focus on school work and not have to work as much. I'm Slightly nervous to be around so many couples and drunken senior boys. I'll just stay with my girls. Hopefully, that'll make tonight a lot easier.
