Chapter 6: A Cryptic Encounter

437 Words
The next day, Luna returned to the mansion, determined to gain more insights from Alexander. She hoped to catch him off guard or at least find an opportunity to ask him more about the room she had discovered. She found Alexander in the garden, his gaze fixed on the distant mountains. As she approached, he turned to face her, his expression unreadable. “Miss Davenport,” he greeted her with a hint of surprise. “I didn’t expect to see you again so soon.” “I hope I’m not intruding,” Luna said, trying to sound casual. “I came across some interesting information about the estate’s history. I was hoping you might shed some light on it.” Alexander’s eyes narrowed slightly. “What kind of information?” Luna showed him the photograph of the old article. “I found this in a local library. It mentions a hidden chamber and some occult practices associated with the Volkov family.” Alexander’s demeanor shifted subtly, a flicker of something—annoyance?—crossing his face. “I see. You’re quite persistent.” “I’m just trying to understand,” Luna said, keeping her tone respectful. “There seems to be a lot of mystery surrounding this place. I’d like to get to the bottom of it.” Alexander studied her for a moment, then sighed. “Very well. There are aspects of my family’s past that are… complex. But be warned, some things are better left undisturbed.” Luna’s heart raced. This was her chance. “I’d like to hear more. What can you tell me about the hidden chamber and the symbols?” Alexander hesitated, then began to speak. “The estate was built by my ancestors, who had a deep interest in ancient lore and rituals. The symbols you saw are part of a tradition that has long been abandoned. The chamber you discovered was used for ceremonies that were meant to protect the family from threats. Over the years, these practices were deemed obsolete and were forgotten.” Luna took in his words, noting the mixture of reluctance and authority in his tone. “And the journal?” Alexander’s gaze grew colder. “The journal contains records of those ceremonies and other family matters. It’s not meant for outsiders.” Luna nodded, though her curiosity was still piqued. “Thank you for the information. I’ll be respectful of your privacy.” As she left the mansion, Luna’s mind was racing. Alexander had been more open than she had anticipated, but his reluctance was a clear indication that there was much more to discover.
