When realisation dawns

Practice went well tonight and even coach was smiling with the end result, we have a home game in two days. When I had the chance I would look over at Dee and she was either watching with intent or laughing with the girls which made me smile, she deserves to be happy even if it's just for a night. In the locker room the team all chat and joke as always but all I want is to go and see Dee.

As I am taking my skates off coach comes over sitting in the bench

"How's things with Dee?"

"There's a lot going on man, but between us things have taken a bad turn." His smile fades

"What is it?"

"I'll catch up with you tomorrow, I'm not saying anything with this lot here." I laugh looking around at the lads who are still winding each other up and he nods.

A quick shower and change later coach, Kyle and I make our way to the parking lot where the girls are waiting.

"Ry, we are all going to Dees for dinner tomorrow." Sarah smiles at him.

"Don't worry you're invited." Dee smirks as I make my way towards her, leaning in I whisper to her

"I should f*****g hope so too buttercup." I laugh as she shivers when my lips touch her ear.

Kyle and Paige are headed back to his for the night, Dee has offered me to go back to hers for a drink which I sure as s**t ain't going to turn down. There's a note on the breakfast bar I pass it to Dee after she's retrieved two beers from the fridge, she unfolds the paper and reads out loud

"Hi Dee, I've gone old school putting pen to paper, I didn't want to blow up your phone. I received your message invite for tomorrow nights dinner and we will definitely be there. If you need anything you know how to reach us and tell my brother I said goodnight, love Katie" we both laugh at my sisters note.

"So who is coming tomorrow then?"

"Obviously you, me, Gary and his wife, Paige and Kyle, Katie, Adam and Faith." She smiles, and it's so damn good to see that smile.

"Sounds perfect, so what will we be eating then?"

"I was going to do a roast chicken with all the trimmings and a salad for anyone who wants it" I swear my mouth waters just from hearing it and Dee laughs.

Dee finishes her beer in within a few minutes and we sit quietly on the sofa, her head rests gently on my shoulder and she looks up at me with those green eyes our lips inches apart, I can't take it anymore my head closes the distance I claimed her mouth and she parted her lips inviting me inside, our tongues collide and we finish the kiss breathless.

We settle into bed and I pull her into my arms where she settles instantly.

Dee

My phone vibrates on the nightstand waking me but it's still dark outside, looking at the caller ID it's a private number.

"Hello" I answer groggily

"Miss Hayes, it's Detective Peters, I am sorry to call you so early but I have something to discuss with you, is now ok?"

"Yes of course." I sit up in bed and Block stirs sitting bolt upright when I put the phone on speaker.

"So Miss Hayes, as you know a lethal dose of sleeping tablets were found in your brothers autopsy, well we have the full report and I really am sorry to say the drugs were the cause of your brothers death." My hand slaps across my mouth to stifle my sobs, Block pulls me into his arms.

"Detective Peters this is James Brewer, please continue." Block takes the phone but leaves it on speaker.

"Now you informed us your brother didn't take ever take sleeping tablets, we did a search of the house he resided in with Miss Kayla Park, we found an empty bottle of the exact same sleeping tablets in the trash of the house they were prescribed to a Mr Paul Davey. Does that name mean anything to you?"

"No decti-" I'm cut off by Block

"His name appeared on a file that was given to Dee by Aaron's lawyer." Block looks at me with regret in his eyes.

"Ok Mr Brewer, could you tell me what the file was regarding?" I hold up a finger jumping out of bed I sprint for my safe and pick up the file running back to the bedroom.

"I have the file in front of me Detective. Shall I read out a signed statement to you?" I ask

"Yes please." His answer comes through as I start scanning the words the anger boils up inside of me. Block must notice the shift in my mood and he holds out a hand for the statement which I give him and he starts reading the statement to the Detective.

"I am writing this statement as a witness incase anything shall happen to Mr Aaron Hayes, I was involved in a s****l relationship with Kayla Park for three months I knew she was pregnant but I didn't know she was married until I discovered wedding photos which is when Kayla informed me that she was going to get rid of Aaron, when I asked her what she meant she simply replied 'he will cease to exist and this bastard baby will be left-" Block is cut off by Detective

"I'm sorry but could I come and collect this please, I also need to look through the other belongings that Miss Hayes collected."

"Yes, no problem Detective."

The call ends there and Block has gone downstairs to make coffees while I continue to read the statement.

"When I heard those words come out of her mouth I watched her expression change and it can only be described as sinister, I knew I had to find out exactly what she planned. After Kayla went to bed I searched the house and found she had stolen a bottle of my sleeping tablets. I have enclosed my details and also the USB drive which contains phone footage of her confessing to stealing my pills, her plan to get rid of Aaron and also her plan to leave her baby." My stomach retches and I sprint for the bathroom depositing of my stomach contents into the toilet.
