I am just a pawn

1053 Words
Oliver was peacefully working in his workspace. The money that he had got from Tristan had revived his company and the outcome of his company has also improved a lot in the last few days. Even his wife stopped bothering him after he made a phony call to her through his assistant. He would have no trouble for a few days. But a few days later, he should do something to make his wife believe that Ivy was alright. Oliver’s eyes started to hurt by scanning at the screen too long. He shut his laptop and got up from his seat. He went to the window and looked down at the busy people of New York wandering in the streets.  It was morning seven. And this was when all drove their cars to go to their work. As usual, the streets were jammed with cars and the sounds of horns were infuriating to hear for Oliver.  Twenty years ago, he was one of these people who got up early and went to work. His life was very boring back then. And Oliver hated to live a boring life.  He always desired flashy things and expensive cars ever since he was young. Even after getting a graduation degree in computer science, the best he could earn was a corporate job that demanded him to give out his blood and sweat.  Oliver hated his job and his life. Just when he thought of ending his life, a miracle happened to him. A beautiful girl came out from his bed and she lit up his life. It was his wife Amelia! After listening to her tragic story, his life seemed much less of misery to him. He pitied the young and homeless Amelia and he offered a place in his home. He paid for her education and later they both fell in love and got married.  After marrying Amelia, there came another miracle in his life. It was his daughter Ivy! And after that, Oliver got all the riches in his life that he desired through her daughter. Even now he revived his company back through Ivy.  Oliver’s heart stiffened as he thought about his daughter. She has given him everything that he desired. Now he was one of the richest businessmen in the town because of her. He did love his daughter, but he also felt guilty for using her! And he was even more guilty that he had to hide the truth from his love Amelia. What would she do if she knew about this? She would probably leave him! And that was why he was never going to say this to his wife no matter what happens. He would do everything to keep this truth hidden!  He was even ready to burn out his riches for that! He would be able to live if he had no money, but he couldn’t live without his wife. She was his whole world, the Angel who gave him hope to live his life! Oliver sat back in his seat and opened his laptop. Just when he decided to resume his work, the glass door of his workspace and a man got in his chamber.  He jumped to his feet as soon as he saw the man. He had deep brown hair and a pale skin complexion. Anyone who saw home would tell him that he was a handsome man. But if they stare at his reddish-brown eyes, there was no chance that anyone would not get scared by him.  Oliver had not seen this man for years and he was thankful for that. Why would he want to see the Devil to whom he had sold his soul years ago?! He tried to say something as the devil moved near him, but he couldn’t. He was at the loss of words!  The brown harried man smirked at the way Oliver was trembling on his feet. “You didn’t expect to see me again, did you?” Oliver swallowed his fear and said,” What do you want now?” “You know exactly what I want, Mr.Brown,” he smiled. “You promised me to give something and you give it away to someone else!” He shook his head end as if indicating that he was disappointed by Oliver.  “But…. but… that was necessary or else…. my wife and I could have gone to prison,” Oliver stammered. Now the man’s gaze darkened which made Oliver tremble even more. “Don’t tell me that you sold your daughter to my… mortal enemy as a matter of saving you are a**” Oliver gasped. “What? Tristan Thompson is your mortal enemy! I had no idea…” “Shut up,” the man yelled at the top of his voice which scared away the white pigeons that were seated outside the workspace window. “I know what is going on here, Oliver! You didn’t want to give away your daughter to me! That is why you pulled this stunt and gave her away to Tristan. Am I right?!” “No….,” Oliver said in a calm tone as he didn’t want people outside to hear him beg. “I had no idea that Tristan was your enemy…” The man banged his fist on the laptop that was on the table beside them. The screen shattered a little and Oliver winced at the scene. Now he had his hands clasped together as if pleading to the man before him to plead with him.  “If you think that your daughter is safe with Tristan, then you are a fool. He is nothing more than a demon and you offered your precious daughter to him for money?! What kind of father are you?!” Oliver wanted to defend himself, but he had no words left. He was too scared to even speak to this man. He knew what this man was capable of. He had seen it with his own eyes. If he crossed the line with this man, then it is equal to digging his own grave.  “I am just a pawn now,” Oliver finally confessed. “Tristan is the one who is operating me and there is no use for you to confront me. Why don’t you confront Tristan instead?!”
