"Mama, I saw and talked to the Prince in person earlier while I was on my way home." I told my mom while she was sitting and resting, because my mom had just finished doing her laundry and I had just finished taking the washed clothes to the neighbor. Even as heavy as a sack of rice, I still carried it
then we have money for tomorrow.
I was excited to finish the dish I cooked for the two of us. I want to tell mother about what happened earlier.
"That's so impossible, Linda. The royal family of Alegre won't even notice people like us. We're poor and they look at us like we're slaves." My mother casually said. I just zipped my mouth and never talked about it again. Why do they think that they are so mean? I mean, the Prince's so nice to me earlier. He didn't even gave me a disgusting look.
After we finished eating, we already slept. We are sleeping at 7 am in the evening and waking up 5 am in the morning, our daily sleeping and waking time, and after we woke up, we're going to prepare our breakfast, take a bath and wash the laundries.
That's my daily life routine...
Waking up and doing some laundries... Eating and back to bed to sleep. Sometimes, I even ask our neighbors to let me clean their house just to have an extra income. I also ask if they could let me take care of their child whenever they're going to work.
Somehow, it worked. Our neighbors do trust me and my mother. I'm also thankful for them, without them we won't be able to survive hunger everyday.
"I'm already done with this first laundry. Linda, can you please hang these clothes there?" I nodded and get the clothes that are still wet. After, I hanged them up, I went to my Aunt Retty because I'm going to take care of her child.
"How are you, Linda? You seemed bigger now than the last time I visited you huh? Anyways, I'll be going now. Take care of Richard, okay?" She's the nicest aunt I've ever had. I also couldn't imagined a life like this without the help of her advices and the inspiration and courage she always give me.
"Hello, Richard. How's school huh?" Richard is a 5 years old boy and is now a kindergarten.
"It's all fine... Look at my drawing." I looked at his drawing and smiled because he drew himself and Aunt Retty. "I wish Dad is still here. Ate, do you think Dad is now happy in heaven?" I sadly smiled and looked at him. My heart's breaking slowly into pieces by what he said. His father died in the operation when he was just 3 years old.
"I think your daddy is now happy looking at you in heaven. He will always be proud of you. So... You need to study well and finish your school huh? Once you accomplish all of your dreams, Ate's 100% sure that your daddy will be the happiest man for you." I saw his tears that slowly fall from his eyes. He hugged me tight as he cried. I knew how much it hurts for him, but he needs to be strong. That doesn't mean that life has to stop here. We need to keep going everyday no matter how hard and sad we'll be going through.
When Aunt Retty already went home, I already said my goodbye to Richard. "Bye, Richard. Until our next meet." I said as I wave at him and walk away. Aunt Retty gave me $34.5, already enough for my savings and for our food tomorrow. When I went home, my mother was already there, taking a nap. I sat beside her and put in her hand the half dollar that Aunt Retty gave me.
"W-Where did this come from?" She asked. Not knowing everything, I smiled and held her hand.
"I worked earlier as a babysitter at Aunt Retty. She gave me $34." Then my mother hugged me so tight and she almost cried.
"T-Thank you, Linda. But you shouldn't be doing this, I-I'm your mother and I'm supposed to be the-" I didn't let her finish what she's trying to say.
"Remember, I'm doing all of this for you... For us. I'm helping you because I'm your daughter. I love you so much." I sincerely said and hugged her back. From this moment and onwards, I promised myself that I'll do everything it takes for my mother, even though it makes me suffer, as long as I can support her, I'll do it. And once I already have a big savings, we'll be going out of this town and live peacefully where we'll be having a permanent work with a high salary income.
Everything I do, is for my mom. I'll do everything because I love her and I don't like to see her suffering all of this alone. As long as I'm still standing, as long as I'm still breathing and walking, I won't let any opportunities just passed by or draft by. I'll make sure it's permanent...
