Misty

521 Words
Maria was sitting under the gazebo in her back yard reading a novel from her favorite author, while listening to the rain. She loved reading books by Misty Diane. Maria was excited because she recently heard that Misty was being introduced at the reunion. She was told that Misty had gone to her high school around the time she was there, but Maria couldn't remember her. She called Emily, her other friend from high school who was also a fan of Misty. "Em, guess what?!" Maria exclaimed. "Guess who they are introducing at the reunion?" Emily was groggy because she had been woken up. Yawning, she answered. "What are you talking about Mar?" Maria ignored the pet name that only Emily got away with using. "Misty Diane," she stopped and waited for the reaction. She wasn't disappointed. "Oh my god, are you serious?!" Emily nearly shouted back excitedly. Maria confirmed and spent the next 30 minutes talking about meeting their favorite author. After hanging up, Maria wanted to find her year books from high school to see if she could find Misty. She didn't realize she had gone to her school until she learned that Misty would be coming to the reunion. Surely, she would be in one of these books. Maria sat down on her bed, holding the four yearbooks, one for each year of high school. Laying on her stomach, she began flipping through her freshmen yearbook. It brought back many fun memories. She saw pictures from her cheerleading team, field trips, the prom. She couldn't remember what she saw in her prom date that year. He was goofy looking. But no pictures of anyone named Misty. Moving on to her sophomore yearbook, Maria flipped through similar photos and memories. She saw Eve's school picture and smirked. 'She really is such a loser'. But, still no picture or mention of Misty Diane. After not finding information in her junior yearbook, she came to her senior yearbook. After going to get a glass of soda, she came back to her bedroom and sat back down. She picked the yearbook up and opened it. She read the messages from her former classmates that were written wishing her a happy life or congratulating her for graduating. Toward the end of the yearbook, she saw photos of graduation day. Seeing her posing with her friends for photos reminded her of how awesome that day was. She remembered how embarrassed Eve was up on the stage. All of the students laughing at her. It was even better that she had to remove her clothes underneath her gown. It was a great prank. *** Eve sat in a chair next to the big picture window in her bedroom watching the rain falling on it. She loved thunderstorms and thought she must have been a meteorologist in a past life. She just loved being outside feeling the wind and smelling the unique air that only rain brings. She decided to attempt to write more of her book. She picked her laptop up and opened it. She has been struggling with writer's block these last few days.
