Chapter One... Just Wanting To Be Loved

1471 Words
I look in the mirror and just cringe. I have another black eye I have to cover up because my husband lost his temper. AGAIN. He gets so mad at me, but I didn't do anything wrong. All I did was go to the mall and buy a few things for myself. He has me on a tight leash, and I was only allowed to go to certain places, and if I wanted to stray from his plan, I had to ask for permission. I hated asking for permission, I was a grown woman, but he knew I feared him and what he could do. He says that I was trying to be disobedient and escape him, but I wasn't. I know better than to try and leave him. He is powerful and a very dangerous man. I shudder just thinking of the first time he lost his temper. He scared the shît out of me, and I tried to leave once. Yes, you heard me, just once. That first day, I had been about eighteen, and I went out with a few of my friends. I spent most of the night out just living life and having fun. Little did I know what hell that was waiting back home for me. I had gotten married at a young age because my parents said I needed to be taken care of, but I always felt like a piece of me was missing, seriously like I was missing a huge piece of myself. When I came home, the monster in him came out. I tried to plead my case, but he didn't listen. The next day, when he had left for wherever he went every day, I left and called my parents. I told them everything and begged them to let me go back to Scotland with them. I even went to the police, but that was the biggest mistake I had made. He had the police in his pocket. His father was the Senator, so he could get away with anything he wanted. When he walked into that police station and gave me that look of pure evil, I cowered in fear and knew I was going to get it extremely badly when he took me home. He grabbed my arm and dragged me out of the station civilly, but the pressure he had on my arm brought tears to my eyes. "I-I'm s-sorry... p-please..." I had stuttered out, but he leaned down and whispered in my ear with his cold and cruel voice, "Oh, you will be once I get you home. You will never embarrass me like that again. Ever." he had whispered harshly. He had thrown me in the passenger seat and slammed the door shut, locking me in. I tried the door, but it wouldn't budge. I began panicking, but once he got in and closed his door, he turned to me and gave me that murderous look. I tensed and felt the tears falling. "What the fûck were you thinking, Addison?" he snarled out as he backhanded me harshly. I grabbed my burning cheek but tasted a metallic taste on my lip and cowered away. "I... I-" I started as my lip began to quiver, but he cut me off. "ENOUGH," he screamed out. I felt my body begin trembling from fear. Once we got home, he turned on me and left me black and blue for days. I couldn't move without feeling excruciating pain. I shake those thoughts away and turn to leave the bathroom when I hit something hard. I already know it's him. "Going somewhere, darling?" he says softly. "N-no, just going to clean the room," I whispered painfully. He grabbed my chin and forced me to look at him. "You bring this on yourself, you know. You know better than to displease me," he says as he cups my face, "You need to make sure you're ready by six o'clock. We are going to my parent's house tonight for dinner." I paled slightly and knew what was going to happen, but I knew better than to argue. "Alright, husband," I say as my lips begin quivering. "He just wants to talk to you, darling. You know he doesn't like it when you make problems for him," he says with a smug smile. I was not looking forward to this evening at all. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * The ride to Derrick's parent's house was quiet. He was enjoying the uneasiness I was feeling. His father was just as bad as him. I felt so bad for Derrick's mother. She was a kind soul, but she was treated worse than I was. I noticed the bruises she had on her shoulder one time we had come to visit, but she knew how to hide them well. She was the wife of the Senator, and she was expected to play her part perfectly or else pay the consequences. Once we pulled up to the house, Derrick leaned over and grabbed my chin, and forced me to look at him. "I expect you to be on your best behavior tonight. You will not embarrass me in front of my parents. Do I make myself clear?" he said, growling. I nod my head rapidly, and then he releases my chin. "Such a good girl. You know what will happen if you don't," he says dangerously low as he opens the door and gets out. I sit there and wait for him to open my door because that's what a perfect wife is supposed to do. That's what I am expected to be. The perfect wife. All I want to do is live my life and be truly loved, but that will never happen because Derrick will never let me leave. He has already told me that he will kill me and anyone else who tries to help me before he ever lets me go. He knew too many dangerous men and would get away with whatever he wanted. * * * * * * * * * * * * "So, Addison, I hear you didn't follow protocol today. Is that true?" Derrick's father says sternly. I gulp inwardly and feel the sweat forming on my brow. "N-not really." I say hesitantly. Derrick grabs my thigh and squeezes harshly. I can feel his anger escalating already. "So you're calling my son, your husband, a liar?" he says dangerously low. "No Sir, of course not. I just wanted to buy something from a specific store and it happen to be outside of Derrick's permission. I wasn't trying to get into any trouble. I swear it." I rushed out. I don't know what I was hoping for, but I felt like I needed to get my side of what happened out. "So you knew it wasn't allowed, yet you still went? Is that what you are trying to tell me?" he says with a venomous tone. I paled and shook my head. Shît! That was not what I was trying to say at all. "Honey, will you excuse me, I have to finish setting up dinner. Addison, sweetheart, will you help me?" Derrick's mother said hesitantly. I smiled softly and nodded my head. "Yes, of course, Mrs. Stone." I went to get up but Derrick pushed me back down angrily. "Mother, that is your job, Addison is not going anywhere. Her place is by my side." Derrick says through clenched teeth. "Elizabeth." Derrick's father growled loudly. She began trembling and looked down sadly, "I-I'm sorry, I just wanted some help." she whispered roughly. I opened my mouth to speak but quickly shut it when Derrick narrowed his eyes at me. I looked down and listened for several hours as I was reprimanded by Derrick and his father until it was time to leave. I dreaded going home because I already knew that I had failed tonight and would suffer the consequences for it. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Later that night once we went to bed, I fell into a strange dream. I was standing somewhere dark and alone. This place felt like it was a dangerous place, but for some reason, it didn't seem to bother me or even scare me in the least. I walked around as if I was looking for something. What? I didn't even know. As I was walking, I suddenly felt chills cover my body and I turned around and saw yellow eyes following me. "Addison? Come back to me, my love. Where are you?" says a deep voice that sends delicious tingles straight to my core. My love? Who was this person and how did they know my name?
