PROLOGUE
“Excuse me Doctor Lily, your attention is needed at the manager director’s office.”
“Ok. I will be with him shortly” I replied as I scrambled prescriptions on a sheet of paper for the patient staring at me wide eyed and I smiled at her and said, “Don’t be frightened dear, you don’t need many drugs…just lictogen, then you will be good as new.”
Then I turned to the nurse standing silently beside me and asked, “are we good?”
“Yes Doctor Lily” she replied, then I handed her the paper for the patient and left the ward, leaving the patient in her care.
As I approached the managing directors office, my wolf, Nyla, sniffed out the scent of not only the MD, but my other bosses and I squared my shoulders immediately and wondered what might be the issue for them to gather like this within a short notice, which is rare.
“Oh come in…come in Doctor Lillian” my manger said, ushering me in with a wave of his hand and I entered anxiously and bowed courteously at the men seated with their legs crossed around the table, wondering what could be this important for them to all leave their busy schedule and be here in person, instead of a representative and also….
Why the hell am I here?
But I didn’t have to wonder for long, for as the manager is not a man of many words, he cleared his throat and asked;
“Are you aware of the medical summit that’s being organized by the world health organization?”
“Yes I am sir” I replied curtly, wondering where he is going with this.
“We are been asked to select a Doctor to represent not only this hospital, but the other hospitals in the pack”
“Oh that’s an honor sir” I said with a small smile, wondering what it has to do with me, for I am only a junior Doctor, a newbie that joined their team two years ago and sure enough—
“Yes it is an honor…and you were picked to represent us Doctor Lillian.” He stated with no hint of humor in his voice and I turned to look at the other bosses sitting around him, searching for any one to oppose what he had said, but they nodded their head in agreement and watched me with beady eyes as if daring me to refuse, which I know I possible couldn’t and with my mind channeling on the positive part, I smiled and bowed, already getting excited for a trip.
“Doctor Mark of the surgical wing and Doctor Agnes of the pharmaceutical wing will accompany you and you have two days to arrange your affairs and prepare for your trip to the capital city of Luxembourg.”
“What!” I shouted as waves of terror engulfed me and immediately, without thinking, I fell on my knees with my head bowed low and pleaded earnestly;
“No sir….please I can’t go to Luxembourg…please send someone else.”
