CHAPTER ONE: A Luna decision
In a gloomy dark section, he sat, his presence and that of his subordinates unknown to the ignorant masses present. If they knew he was in their midst, they all for sure wouldn't be dancing and would in one way or the other try to please him and get in his good graces. He was no other than the Lycan King, Simon Greystone. Simon's eyes lazily loomed over the insignificant wolves in the hall below him. His eyes searched impatiently for her but she was nowhere near to be sighted. "Care to explain what the hell we're doing here?" Nathaniel, his beta and best friend asked calmly but the hint of annoyance laced in his voice did not go unnoticed. Nathaniel scoffed when Simon blatantly ignored him like passing air. "You drag me here with you yet you don't bother to..." "Shh..." Simon cut Nathaniel short. A pool of unmatched heat surged through his insides and his senses heightened. She was here. He had smelt her immaculate scent that attempted to calm his raging insides but failed. He wanted more. More than just to smell her. Wait...no, he wanted to kill her! Back at the ball, the music had seized and everyone paused and held their glass in anticipation of what the host was about to say. The MC, a tall and lanky red-haired, came to the front and stood on the podium as he addressed the crowd, "A very good evening to our prestigious guest. I would now like you all to welcome the Alpha and Luna of the Blue Crescent pack, the host of this year's annual unity ball. I present to you, Alpha Damien Thorn, and his mate, Luna Kaitlyn." Jaws dropped at the mention of the Luna's name. It was not the one they were familiar with and they all wondered if the rumors were true. The heads of the guests turned towards the flight of stairs and there stood Alpha Damien with a broad smile on his lips as he locked arms with his mate, Kaitlyn, who in turn had a sweet smile on her nude-painted lips. They descended the stairs proudly amidst the applause from the guests and approached the podium. It was only when they got to the podium that the guests noticed the lady in an angelic white dress that followed closely behind the Alpha and Kaitlyn. The lady was no other than Luna Brielle. The chosen mate of Damien and the true Luna of the Blue Crescent pack. "So the rumors were true," A lady of high status said with a click of her tongue. "Kaitlyn is truly a vixen," Another lady chimed with huge distaste. "I shudder at the thought of myself in Luna Brielle's shoes." Another said. Whispers filled the hall but as the saying "whispering amid wolves was clownry," goes, the whispers didn't go unheard by the wolves present and that also included the group of power beings secluded in the dark. "This is starting to become interesting," Nathaniel snickered as he watched everything unfold from the shadows. He fueled his amusement by downing a glass of whiskey in one gulp. He groaned in satisfaction as the burning sensation hit his throat. On the other hand, his companion sat calmly, his expression was synonymous with the atmosphere and his eyes only focused on her. Her white long gown was embedded with diamonds that glimmered under the beam of the white light. Her honey-brown hair was let down and was enough length to cover her low-back dress that stopped at the waist. Her hands were elegantly held together in front of her as she was behind Damien and Kaitlyn. Despite being covered, her beauty and elegance radiated throughout the hall and one couldn't help but focus their gaze on her making her the star of the night. Back in the hall, Damien had begun addressing the crowd. "I know you've all heard the rumors. Yes, I have found my mate and I know most of you all are mad at me for not rejecting her but a mate is a blessing from the moon goddess and I have decided to not reject this blessing. Meet my mate. A mate specifically picked for me by the moon goddess; Kaitlyn Woods." Kaitlyn came to the front and bowed with a pleasing smile. She was taken aback by the unwelcoming looks that were passed to her but she expected it. An elderly woman who was reputable for her wisdom and leadership during her reign as the Luna of the biggest pack stood up and questioned, "What becomes of Luna Brielle?" The elderly woman did not look pleased at all. Damien sighed sadly and walked over to Brielle. He took her hands in his and looked for reassurance before saying, "Brielle and I were promised to each other by our parents since we were young. We grew up loving each other and till this day and my last breath, I still would. After much discussion between the both of us, we have decided to do what is right for the pack. An alpha is stronger in the presence of his fated mate and hence we've decided to divorce and Brielle shall be stripped off her Luna title." The words Damien spat stunned Brielle into confusion. They had discussed but the topic was about him rejecting Kaitlyn at the Unity ball, not their divorce and certainly not her dethronement. "Damien..." His name rolled off her tongue in a whisper and she stood frozen in shock while staring at him in disbelief. She tried to wriggle her hands from his but he tightly held her hands. "Brielle, be calm. I have a plan and all you need to do is play along. I promise everything will go back to what it was. Just trust me." Damien urgently whispered back. He suddenly stilled, beads of sweat decorated his forehead and his already palpitating heart raced faster. His hands were clammy with sweat and the bones in his hands trembled as they tried to keep their grip tight on Brielle's wrist. Damien lifted his head to the secluded place in the dark he had kept for that man. Their eyes met and Damien wished for nothing more but this charade to end. He was terrified. His words seemed to comfort Brielle and she wanted to oblige until she saw from the corner of her eyes the disdainful smirk on Kaitlyn's face. It was a smirk a victory. She knew she had been played. Again. Damien quickly tightened his grip on Brielle's hand and frustratingly whispered, "Brielle, help me just this once. Please I'll make it up to you, I promise." It seemed stupid but Brielle still wanted to trust him. He was her only family. She looked at the crowd and her heart broke for the amount of people she'd be disappointing with the words she was about to utter. But she knew it wouldn't be for long, after this party, she and Damien would have a long talk and she would finally understand what the need for all these was. "It's true," Brielle said with a sad smile, "For the sake of the pack, Damien and I have decided to get divorced and..." She looked at Damien for one final confirmation and when she saw him plead with his eyes she closed her eyes and continued, "...I have decided to denounce my title as Luna of the Blue Crescent pack." Gasps enveloped the entire hall as people couldn't believe their ears. The elderly woman who questioned Damian sighed and said to Brielle, "Your father would be disappointed." And with these words, she left the event. One by one people who couldn't accept the news, mostly allies of Brielle's father, stood up and left the hall. Damien hurriedly turned his head in search of that man just to realize he was gone. The man in the dark was gone. The Lycan king was gone.
