The night air blew across Lusie's cheek as she sat at the cave entrance edge. She watched as the cold water ran down to the river under her. Her thoughts were going in every direction they could of the details she has been through and learned. Jason had not talked to her after last night's conversation. There had been cooked fish laid on a leaf next to her when she woke up but the day had been full of silence. She did not know what was wrong or what she may have said to make him distant. Maybe it was for the best for the moment. However a part of her hurt from his sudden actions of distance.
Before meeting Jason her life had been full of that. Even her parents would but Lusie knew that was because they did not know what to do or say. She thought Jason understood her considering how much they were alike in the abilities they gained. Lusie never really changed people's view on her once they realized she was off somehow. It did not matter to her as much as what Jason thinks of her. Maybe it was the same for him. Was he distancing himself from her because he didn't want her to find out more of his dark past? Did he worry about what she thought of him?
Lusie tilted her head to the right side and the tapping on her knee began as the thought clicked. No she would not ever feel what Jason went through. She knew he held people back because he did not trust anyone. A slow smile appeared. Was she getting closer to him than he liked so he was putting up walls? Lusie really hoped so because having him be disgusted with her or not like her hurt her more than walls being put up.
"Well there is no point in waiting for the answer. I'll just have to bug him to tell me himself." Lusie whispered her thoughts out loud while unwrapping the blanket around her. Going along with this courage Lusie started climbing down the hill towards the lake that she knew was the direction Jason went.
She took deep breaths and went slowly down the wall. Lusie was not one for heights. She tried not to look too far down as she climbed. When her feet hit the grovel ground she sighed in relief. Straightening her clothes Lusie went under the waterfall to the river outside. The water was freezing cold along with the breeze. Maybe she should have thought about this before just leaving the warm cave.
Lusie shook her head. I'm already here. Now I just have to find him. Lusie thought as she started to look around. Shapes were shadows in the distance. The only light that helped her see close to her was the full moon directly above her. Further along the river stream she saw Jason's figure.
He did not seem to hear her or he was fully concentrated in whatever task he was doing. In the faint moonlight Lusie saw Jason's bareback that was facing her. Jason had his pants rolled up to his knees to keep his pants from getting soaked in the water. Jason was bent towards the water with his hands nearly touching the water. Lusie quietly moved forward as she watched him. Her eyes kept being dragged back to his back. There were old scars around his shoulder blades that must have been very deep if they left such a mark. She could see a little bit of some other scars but she was too far away.
Jason suddenly reached in the water making a splash. However instead of straightening up he seemed to lose his footing and fell completely in the water. Lusie could not help it. She started to laugh and laugh escaping her lips. Not one of those short chuckling laughs. No. Her stomach aches and her throat burns from lack of air being breathed in through the laughs.
Jason heard a laugh. He pushed his wet hair away from his eyes and looked behind him. He saw Lusie holding her stomach while she laughed. His heart skipped a beat at the sight. Warmth filled him as he watched Lusie laughing her heart out at his dispense. Her laughter was contagious that he couldn't help but chuckle as well.
Tears ran down Lusies cheeks as her body continued to shake with laughter. Of all the things to happen she never thought she would see Jason fall. The intimidating, distant, and pained filled Jason that was serious all the time is now laughing with her. This moment away from the worries and pain seeing him like this made Lusie feel warm. The gold light glowed a little around their fingers. They stared into each others eyes with smiles on their faces.
Lusie's breathe slowly came back to normal. Her artistic eyes took in every detail. She knew deep down that this moment, the look in his eyes, and the feelings filling her body would stay with her the rest of her life. Lusie moved a strand of her hair behind her ear as Jason started to get out of the water.
"What were you doing?" Lusie asked. She walked closer to him.
"Trying to catch some breakfast and lunch for us." Jason replied while running fingers through his hair. So much for keeping his pants dry.
Lusie tilted her head to the side. Her hands were behind her back as she stood next to him. She had to look up at him since he was almost two inches taller than herself. Something that should intimate her but she felt safe unless he moved close to her. "Looks like you need help to catch us some food" She teased.
Jason felt a pull to touch Lusie. His hand ached from the strong urge. The resistance did not last long because the battle between his emotions and his mind ended with the winner as his emotions. Jason rested his right hand on Lusie's cheek. He could feel warmth grow as she got embarrassed. "I think I can handle it." He whispered.
Lusie and Jason were both confused by what was happening but with a feeling that left them warm could not be bad, right? She shouldn't be scared if it felt right to have his hand touch her or be near him.
Jason pulled Lusie into his arms. Lusie gasped as his wet skin soaked into her clothes. Her hands pressed on his chest without thinking. The gold light glowed to a sunset orange shade as if it could tell that they were getting intense in their emotions.
Lusie bit her lip unconsciously that set Jason over the edge with his control. He rested his forehead against hers before giving her lips a soft kiss. Lusie had never been kissed before but she knew that she did not want this to end. It felt right as if they were meant to kiss one another.
Jason could feel Lusie being uncertain at first but he patiently waited for her to get the handle of things. She was a quick learner. Which made him smile thinking, of course she would be when she doesn't overthink. Jason pulled away before this could go any further. He knew if they continued he would not be able to control himself. Scaring an innocent girl like Lusie was something he really did not want.
Lusie blinked as Jason stopped kissing her and pushed her away. His head was bowed as if it was a struggle. Lusie's clear mind began to click thoughts through. Well she got her answer but Lusie was now very embarrassed. This was unknown territory and she did not regret any of it.
"I'll…" Lusie fumbled with her words. She was having a difficult time formulating words into sentences. "I'll just leave you to...um...you know." Her face was probably red like a tomato.
Jason nodded. He released her shoulders and turned away. She didn't miss the slight red shade on his cheeks before his back was to her. He wasn't at all calm and collected. Lusie smiled as she walked back to the cave leaving Jason to himself.
Jason knew these feelings were dangerous. He knew the pull to her would lead to betrayal or death. Jason sighed as he realized that even with the reasons why they shouldn't it felt right to him. He looked up at the moon as if looking for some guidance on what to do. Deep within himself he knew it was a losing battle to fight these feelings that were growing. He hoped that his father would give up looking for them so Lusie would not be put in danger or see the monster in him.
