Hurry. A gentle whisper made Lusie open her eyes. Her limbs felt unnaturally heavy like rocks were weighing her down. Lusie's energy felt weak and her eyelids became difficult to keep open. Hurry Lusie. The whisper said to her again. The voice sounded like a mix of a female and male voice speaking together.
Lusie tried to fight the heaviness to look at her surroundings in the cave but her body was just to weak. Her inner self kept her from going completely unconscious. Instead of using her heavy eyes to see she used her ability to feel the energy around her. There was only one source of energy she felt besides Jason's to her left. You must hurry. The voice breezed next to her and filled her thoughts.
Lusie tried to open her mouth but found even there she was drained of energy. Her mouth burned from dehydration. Her throat was thick as she swallowed. This was becoming scary to Lusie. She had no control of herself just like the first night of her abilities. Her thoughts ran through a small plead for the angels to help. She realized her thoughts worked fine.
Hurry from what, Lusie asked in her thoughts to the spirit. She did not want to be scared. She wanted to be brave like Jason. Lusie reasoned if she could get through this than Jason would be there afterwards with her. Her chest ached at the thought. She no longer had to go through this alone.
Go to the safe house. Hurry...demon. The whisper was speaking softer as if they were being pulled away at the end. She could feel when the spirit left. Her body shot up. She was covered in sweat and gasping for air.
Jason gentle pushed Lusies hair back from her sweat covered forehead. He was not sure what exactly happened but he knew the signs. Sweat, the body shooting up like it had been held down, parched throat, and blurry gaze. When she was able to breathe in a normal relaxed pattern Jason handed her some water from the bottle he had purified while she slept.
Lusie could feel the warm water in her palms. It helped relax her and though she preferred ice cold water to drink this would help fill her body back with energy that had been drained. Jason stayed beside Lusie quietly waiting for her to recover. She sat there drinking the water and felt her body shiver. Her eyes watered next. All she could think of was how she had been helpless and weak again.
There was not much light that came into the cave for Jason to see Lusies expression. However Jason could feel a pain in his chest that he thought must be from her. Gently he wrapped one arm around her and held her to him. He could feel the tears wet his shirt above his chest. Softly he creased her left arm as she cried silently. He thought how unusual it was for her to be so quiet will crying yet he knew she kept a lot of her emotions in.
A part of her felt embarrassed by Jason knowing she was crying. Another part of her that was winning over found it comforting and sweet. Lusie was conflicted with not only the spirits message but about how Jason made her feel. Right now all her body cared about was releasing how terrified she had been. So thats what happened until the shivering stopped a while later. She felt warm from the water as well as Jason.
"There was a-" Lusie tried to explain.
"Spirit." Jason cut her off. He knew that much.
"Yes. Did you feel it too?" Lusie asked.
"I didn't have to. I've had plenty of them to know when someone else is visited by one. Expectually when that someone is an open book." Jason tried to ease her feelings but at the sametime tease her.
Lusie frowned a little. "If I'm an open book than that makes you a locked book." She responded calmly but Jason could hear a thread of teasing in her tone.
Jason smirked. He was completely fine staying a 'locked book' if it meant keeping her here with him. He never thought about how it would feel to comfort someone else and be needed. Jason liked the feeling and liked how he could easily read her expressions. Instead of continuing to tease her Jason remained silent to allow her to tell him what happened.
"The spirit...I could not tell who or what it was. I don't know. The voice I heard was not just a male voice but a females tone as well. They or it kept telling me to hurry." Lusie spilled it out and the words sounded just as jumbled out loud as in her thoughts. She sighed before adding in a frustrated tone. "I'm not sure how to phrase it."
"It's ok. Just tell me what you can and we can make sense of it together."
"I felt only one spirit but I heard a voice that sounded like a mix of both genders. I'm not sure how. Anyways the voice kept telling me to hurry." Lusie tried again sitting up and looking at the vines Jason had put together before. She was not sure if she could tell him if her gaze met his. Lusie learned to hide when spirits talked to her and finally speaking about it felt strange to her. Even though she knew he could communicate with the dead as well that were demonic the fact did not help her feel better. She found herself more afraid to look him in the eyes. A good part of her was scared he would look at her just like her parents have for so long.
Jason could feel there was some struggle she was having. It wasn't just about her phrasing her words. She was not looking at him. Was she scared of him after all? He couldn't stand the thought of that. Gently he tilted her head towards him. Lusies eyes looked at the vines still.
"Are you scared of me already?" Jason's voice sounded weak and pain filled to Lusies ears. She looked into his eyes finally.
"No. I'm scared of what your eyes would show me if I could see them." It was dark in the cave and though her eyes had adjusted they could not see each others expressions. Lusie knew she was looking towards his eyes because Jason had moved her face to his. She could feel her heart throbbing and a new fear gripped her more than the spirit had.
Jason had not expected her to say that or respond to him. He was relieved but terribly confused at the same time. However her mind works is so complicated, he thought to himself. Though when he spoke he just asked her what she meant.
"My parents...after knowing I saw spirits looked at me differently. It was after something similar like this happened. I just... I don't know." Tears spilled over her eyelids down her cheeks and meet at her chin where Jasons finger still rested. She took a shaking breath before continuing, "They looked at me as if they did not know how to solve me. I don't wish for you to look at me the same or worse. Not after I was getting used to having someone who understands me."
Jason's stomach twisted. Lusie was vulnerable right now and let her walls stay down for him to see in. She wanted to put the walls back up by looking away from him but he held her still. Jason could feel the hurt and pain from the unsteady tone her voice gave. He knew how hard it was for people to look at him differently. No one looked at him like a person. Not until Lusie. She had not been afraid of him. She still did not flinch at his touch. Now after something that scared her Lusie opened herself up to him.
"I don't pity you nor do I wish to fix anything about you Lusie. I would keep the emotional whirlwind that you are just the same. I'm not going to look at you differently. After hearing my past you haven't done so to me. Why would I do so to you?"
"Really?" Lusie whispered. She was afraid. She did not wish for him to be like the rest. They both felt a pull. Jason shifted so he was closer to her. He was not sure how he knew that Lusie was asking multiple things into that one word but he did.
She was asking him if he would dislike her for her abilities that connected them together. If he would leave her and she would be alone again. Lusie was also asking him if he was telling her the truth. There was so many answers he could give but that would be too many words. Jason leaned forward and kissed her instead. He let his emotions flow into her as their lips touched. Jason hoped it would let her know all the answers to her questions and easy her.
Lusie was surprised by the burst of energy flowing through her body the moment Jason's lips met hers. The energy though pleasant and reassuring made her unsteady. Jason's arm held her to him as if he knew what impact he had on her. Lusies scared and worrying emotions drifted away as Jason shared his warm energy with her. Is he answering me through this kiss, Lusie asked herself. Though it was difficult to think at all with Jason and his lips so close to her. She did not want the kiss to end.
Lusie wrapped her arms around Jason's shoulders. As if in her unconscious way holding him close so he wouldn't leave her. Gently Jason ran his fingers in her wavy brunette hair and tilted her head a little deepening the kiss. Lusie's mind was foggy and her body felt tingly. Even though it was all knew to her she was not scared. In Jason's arms she felt safe.
Jason forced himself to release her lips from his. He could feel how light her body had become as soon as their lips met. Jason closed his eyes and rested their foreheads together. Lusie was still foggy minded but she did not push Jason to continue. She knew he was fighting for some type of control within himself. Once her mind began to clear and the cave did not feel so hot Lusie became embarrassed. She also became self conscious. Their rings lowered their glow to a light yellow.
"We should head out. If the spirit that talked with you insisted we hurry than we must continue the path tonight." Jason pulled back and lowered her arms from his shoulders. He could see a blush on her cheeks. Her eyes were a brighter shade of blue and her lips were swollen from his kiss. It made it very difficult for Jason to focus but he managed.
All he got from her was a nod. So after Lusie packed up her blanket and Jason filled the empty bottle with more purified water he made they set out. The night air was windy and clouds hovered above them. Jason suspected rain would fall just before the sunrise. He took one of Lusies small hands in his. I'll find her proper shelter by then, he thought to himself as he lead the way.
