Chapter 17:

Lusie's grandfather observed his granddaughter and Jason as they left the caved vine entrance. He had left Jason incharge of caring for his granddaughter but he was still concerned for her. He had watched Lusie grown into her gift and tried to be there for her when he could. It was not the same as being there physically he knew which is why he was putting his faith into the young man. At first Lusie's grandfather had been worried. He did not want to give his granddaughter up even though the fellow angels told him to. Since Lusie met Jason he could tell there was a connection there more than just souls meeting. He remembers what it was like to be young and in love. So he was keeping himself hidden until the moment they would need him. "They took their time." A now familiar voice whispered beside Lusie's grandfather. He turned his head to the side to find the young Angel Damian beside him. The angel did not seemed pleased. Lusie's grandfather just smiled not put off by the harsh tone the Angel used. "Don't you remember being their age, Damian? We all get distracted easily by new emotions." "Those emotions have no place here. They are already in enough danger." Damian's feminie yet boyish voice rang annoyed. The young angel had his hands on his hips and starred the pair down. Lusie's grandfather was not sure what Jason had deserved to get such a unique Guardian Angel for the time being but he hoped the warning had helped. "Yes. They just don't know how much of a danger yet." Her grandfather tried to reason with the thick skulled Angel. "How can they not? They escaped the hospital. They think after leaving and hiding that they are safe? Come on Alfred we both know that's not how evil works." Lusie's grandfather Alfred sighed. Damian had a point. Yet Alred could not blame the young pair for hoping they escaped the most evil. He knew they had been through so much in that hospital from the doctor. Yet from an experience pair watching the youngsters they knew it was naive. He really wished to keep Lusie into the innocent girl but with the trouble brewing her grandfather was not curtain it would last. Alfred and Damian started to walk behind the pair. They kept a great distance between them so Lusie would not hear their conversation. Her grandfather did not want to scare her more than Damian probably already had. "Speaking of evil. What has the Doctor been about?" Alfred asked. Damian sighed. Alfred could tell he was not a fan of watching the Doctor go through his torture procedures. For the last month and a half they both have been switching off keeping an eye on the doctor. Damian even with his smart remarks and dark viewpoint hated watching the Doctor. The man made both of their stomachs turn by the evil treatment he commited. In the first week they had been paired up Alfred had seen the black shoulders length haired Damian turn away disgusted. They learned the man kept his day going by tormenting 30 patients a day with shock treatments. 46 patients received isolation while being strapped up in a white room similar to Jason's. 29 patients were tested on for experiments. The experiments included injections of others blood to another, taking out pieces of tissue from the brain, bones were removed. Alfred and Damian had seen at least 16 deaths caused by unnecessary pain. "The usual suffering and angry tantrums. Apparently today he received a court summons from your son's lawyer. He took it out on at least 5 patients and the two T employees." Damian said emotionless. Alfred knew behind that Cole exterior that Damien was affected as much as he would be. "About time." Alfred crossed his arms as they walked. He had been mad at the way his son treated his daughter by leaving her in the hospital. Yet as time went by and neither of Lusie's parents were checking on her Alfred expected the Doctor for it. He knew his son and daughter in law would not just abandon Lusie like it seemed. Thankfully with a few changed he was able to turn the police attention to their house and find out what happened. The doctor was not only isolating the patients from the others in the hospital but anyone on the outside to keep them in. A mental torment making each patient feel alone and in a state of depression. No wonder while either Alfred or Damian entered the building each patient gave up on life. Passing through each room they found patients yelling, violently beating the walls, curled up on the floor shaking, muttering nonsense, or trying to find any way to end their suffering. They found the spirits that Lusie had interacted with on the higher levels. They were able to ease a handful of them to pass on to the other side. Most of them stayed and refused anything less than vengeance. Some were just lost souls that could not get over regrets. "The sooner the court shuts the man down from any business the sooner we can get to work on helping those souls. At least the ones that can find any type of peace." Damian ran his fingers through his hair. It was a habit of his when he thought of work that he was anxious to get over. "How will the demons handle it? I can't see them silently allowing us to walk on their territory of souls." "They won't like it. In fact some will be hostile but each soul has to ultimately choose the path they wish to float in. The demons know this even if they fight dirty in trying to sway the souls choice." They stopped walking as they spotted Lusie and Jason. Lusie was staring at the ground exhausted while Jason was looking around. Both Alfred and Damian knew their conversations would have to wait until the two went to sleep for the day. They were both relieved that Jason had gotten them over the halfway mark to the safe house. Rain started to drizzle onto the earth as Jason seemed to find the perfect spot to hide himself and Lusie. Damian thought the choice was a little risky considering the road was closer to this side of the forest but there wasn't much choice. Damian stared at the sunrise that was lifting up from the sky to beautiful bright colors. He could feel something horrible was going to happen. He had told Alfred to be careful over at the hospital. His unease concerned Alfred and so Alfred cautiously went to the doctors office. A new day that could lean towards the Doctors destruction or lead to the pairs recatching for torture. Damian and Alfred hoped it was not the second one though Damian had a bad feeling.
