Chapter 32The snow lasted for three days, drawing adults and children alike out of their homes to play in it. It lay on the ground just long enough for us to enjoy the novelty, but when everyone rose on the fourth day to find it had rained through the night and the streets were washed clean, most people were delighted that things were back to normal.
I enjoyed such a peaceful yet joyous holiday, I almost forgot I'd have to return to the routine of work. When I opened the office for the first time in January, only my staff and I crossed the threshold the entire day. There were no phone calls, only a couple of automated emails and just advertising flyers in the post.
“We shouldn't have bothered coming in,” Paul moans. “All we're doing is twiddling our thumbs.”
