Morning
Soft rays of sunlight filtered through the tall windows of the mansion.
The atmosphere was unusually calm.
In the sunroom, wedding invitation boxes rested neatly on a long table, each one carefully arranged and ready for dispatch.
Mrs. Benson checked the final guest list while Diana reviewed the seating chart with Frederick.
Anabelle wandered over to the table.
Her fingers lightly brushed the edge of one of the invitation boxes.
"They're beautiful."
Mrs. Benson smiled.
"The craftsmen finished them yesterday."
Anabelle looked around.
"So... they haven't been sent yet?"
"Not yet," Mrs. Benson replied.
"They're waiting for Mr. Adebayo's approval."
Anabelle blinked.
"They need his approval too?"
Frederick smiled faintly.
"Nothing concerning this wedding moves without his approval."
Diana added with a teasing smile,
"It's his way of making sure everything goes exactly as planned."
Anabelle gave a small nod.
"I suppose that sounds like him."
Before anyone could continue, footsteps echoed through the hallway.
Thiago entered the room.
His suit was immaculate as always.
The conversations naturally paused.
Mrs. Benson handed him a folder.
"The invitations are ready for distribution."
He looked through the list briefly.
His gaze lingered for only a second before he closed the folder.
"Leave them for now."
Mrs. Benson nodded without question.
"Yes, sir."
Anabelle watched him curiously.
"I thought you handed work over to your COO."
"I did."
"Then where are you going?"
Thiago looked at her.
"It's not about business."
That was all he said.
He turned toward his assistant.
"I'll be away for a while."
"After I return..."
His eyes rested briefly on the invitation boxes.
"...begin the distribution."
"Understood, sir."
Without another word, he walked toward the front entrance.
Anabelle watched him leave.
For reasons she couldn't explain...
She had the feeling this morning wasn't as ordinary as it seemed.
LAWRENCE SAFE HOUSE
The house was unusually quiet.
Lawrence noticed it the moment he stepped through the front door.
Normally, the old bungalow carried little sounds that made it feel lived in—the caretaker humming while tending the small garden outside, the old radio playing softly in the kitchen, or the faint whistle of a kettle.
Today...
Nothing.
Then he remembered.
Earlier that morning, the caretaker had left to attend a family gathering in the neighboring village.
Lawrence had been the one to insist.
"You've spent enough time looking after an old man," he had said with a smile. "Go and spend the day with your family."
The silence no longer seemed unusual.
He closed the door behind him, placed the paper bag on the small dining table, and removed his cap.
His tired eyes swept across the house out of habit.
Then...
His footsteps stopped.
Someone was sitting in the wooden chair beside the window.
Calmly.
One leg crossed over the other.
Hands resting lightly on the armrests.
As though he had been there for quite some time.
For the first time in years...
Someone had entered Lawrence's safe house without his knowledge.
The man slowly lifted his eyes.
Thiago Adebayo.
Silence stretched between them.
A faint smile tugged at the corner of Lawrence's lips.
"Nothing stays hidden from you."
Thiago's expression remained unchanged.
"No."
Lawrence walked farther into the room and set the rest of his belongings aside.
"I spent months making sure no one could find this place."
"I know."
He pulled out the chair opposite Thiago and sat down.
Neither man spoke for a moment.
Then Lawrence broke the silence.
"So..."
"Why are you here?"
Thiago reached into the inside pocket of his suit jacket.
Instead of a document or a weapon, he placed a cream-colored envelope on the table between them.
Lawrence looked at it.
"What is it?"
"Open it."
After a brief pause, Lawrence picked up the envelope.
He unfolded the card inside.
His eyes settled on the names printed across it.
Thiago Adebayo.
Anabelle Alexander.
The room fell silent once again.
Lawrence looked at the invitation for a long moment.
Only then did Thiago speak.
"You're the first to receive it."
A brief pause.
"Just like she wanted."
A faint, bittersweet smile appeared on Lawrence's face.
"She still remembers."
"She never forgot."
Lawrence carefully closed the invitation.
He rested it gently on the table.
Silence filled the room once more.
Then he looked up.
"I'm not coming."
Thiago rose from his chair.
He adjusted the cuff of his sleeve.
His expression remained as calm as when he had arrived.
"You will."
Without waiting for another answer...
He turned and walked toward the door.
The door closed softly behind him.
Lawrence remained seated.
His gaze slowly fell back to the invitation resting in front of him.
A black sedan pulled away from the quiet bungalow.
Inside, Thiago sat in silence.
His phone rang.
He answered without looking at the screen.
"Sir."
It was his assistant.
"The invitations are ready."
A brief silence followed.
Then Thiago spoke.
"Proceed."
"Yes, sir."
The call ended.
Outside, the sedan disappeared onto the empty road.
Elsewhere...
The doorbell echoed through the quiet mansion.
A housekeeper opened the front door.
Outside stood a courier.
"Delivery for Mr. Raymond and Ms. Judith."
The housekeeper accepted two cream-colored envelopes.
"Thank you."
She closed the door and carried them into the living room, placing them neatly on the marble table.
Moments later, Judith descended the staircase.
Her eyes immediately settled on the envelopes.
"Those just arrived, ma'am."
Judith picked one up.
Her gaze swept across the elegant lettering.
A faint smile touched her lips.
Raymond looked up from the newspaper in his hands.
"An invitation?"
Without answering, Judith handed him the second envelope.
He opened it and read quietly.
"The wedding."
Judith walked toward the window.
"So..."
"It finally begins."
Raymond folded the invitation.
"Are we going?"
Judith's smile deepened ever so slightly.
"Of course."
She looked out through the glass.
"Some occasions..."
"...are simply too important to miss."
Raymond lowered his eyes to the invitation once more.
He knew that look.
Whenever Judith smiled like that...
She was already planning her next move.
