Ryder's POV
As the plane descended on the tarmac, my hands flicked across the screen of my phone gently, finally having the time to go over trending news. It was quite intriguing but that wasn't my concern right now.
It has been four years since I last stepped a foot here and it wasn't really an intriguing experience for me to be here but what choice do I have? I have eto take over the Russell family legally.
Stepping onto the familiar ground of the airport, my assistant, Levi was already waiting for me with his head bowed. “Welcome back, Mr Russell.” He greeted warmly.
I didn't say anything and just walked towards the black car parked not far from the plane. “Any news?” I finally asked.
“The party begins in six hours. You should still have a lot of time to rest and go through the files you want to.” He informed me before handing me the keys to the car and I got in.
“Alright.” I replied before getting into the car and driving off.
I tapped against the steering wheels with so much impatience but it didn't really show in my actions. The reason I left this city was because of her. That lady from four years ago. Although I don't remember how she looks like, every other thing about her haunts me till date. Only if I can find her now.
My car drove into the mansion and everyone's attention was drawn to me. Of course, only one person has this special model of car and that was Russell Ryder.
I pulled up in front of the house, I could see some maids standing at the door with guards. I stepped out of the car and a brown haired maid walked over to me, taking my jacket from my hand. “Welcome, young master.” Her soft and silky voice reached my ears and I looked down at her but she had her head down.
There was something oddly familiar about her but I couldn't quite place my hands on it and before I could dwell on it, I heard a familiar squeal which made me look up at the main entrance where a blonde haired lady who I recognized quite well running towards me.
“Ryder, you're home!” She exclaimed before throwing her arms around me for a hug. “I missed you.”
I slightly pushed her arms away from my body since it was invading my personal space. She just ignored my action and continued to chatter. “I thought you would have arrived yesterday but when mother said you would be coming today, I had to prepare extra well.” She said and I tried hard not to roll my eyes as I walked up the stairs with her still wrapping her arms around me.
The brown haired maid was still following behind us, her head still bowed but before I could strike a conversation with her, Maria keep butting in, being all over me. “I'll like to be alone now, Maria.” I said to her and she pouted but nodded before turning to leave.
I caught her throwing the maid a dirty glance before walking off. “You.” I called the maid. “Get me something to eat. I can only guess you're the maid in charge of serving me?”
“Yes, young master.” She bowed and I took my jacket from her before she walked away. I haven't seen her face clearly but I still couldn't shake that feeling of deja vu that surrounded her.
“Are you sure she's a new maid?” I asked Levi as I stepped out of the bathroom after taking a shower. I had asked him to make research about her around the house and I'm quite stunned that she managed to impress my mother to the point that she instantly made her in charge of taking care of my needs.
I wasn't the best personal any maid could relate with and most of them just irritates me. But she didn't and it's surprising. “Just who are you?” I mumbled and a knock came from the door then. “In.”
The door was pushed open and she walked in with a cart being pushed in front of her and her head still bowed like she was trying to hide something. Or to be precise, hiding her face. “Have we met before?” I asked her and she finally looked up at me.
Those eyes! I was sure, I wasn't wrong but she is the one. That lady from that night had green eyes and a tattoo on her chest. The eyes looked exactly the same and I just wanted to pull off her top to reveal the tattoo. There was a chance that she was the one.
“I am afraid I have never met you once, young master.” She said in her calm tone and I just nodded, my eyes not leaving her. “Is there anything else you need, young master?”
I just glanced at her briefly before speaking up. “Prepare my outfit for the party.” I gestured towards the dressing room and she nodded before walking into the dressing room.
I just sat there, not bothering to eat the food before me and when she walked out of the dressing room, it was obvious on her face that she wondered why I haven't eaten but she didn't say anything and just showed me the three clothes she had with her.
I walked over to her, standing before her while looking down at her due to the height difference. She seemed nervous as I stepped closer to her and I didn't know why but I wanted to tease her for that. Wait, what was even wrong with me?
I shook my head slightly before taking the cloth on her left hand and walking back into the dressing room. “Make me something to eat.” I said to her before disappearing into the room.
After dressing, I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting my shirt with the blank look on my face. There was nothing really intriguing in this world at all that I haven't gone through.
The pressure of being the only legal child and according to the family law, I have to take over the business but I had to train for it since all these years. I would say I deserve what I was going to get since I had worked hard for it but it didn't really feel interesting to me.
I was nothing but the little one, my father's copy. If I wanted to do everything he had done in all the years he had spent at the seat of power in the company, I would need to use my entire lifetime for it.
I looked up at the clock and saw I had been in here for over an hour. Not like I was doing anything interesting but just sulking, which no one would expect me to do but whatever. Their expectations are getting too high at this moment and I hate it.
“Young master, I have prepared something for you to eat as you demanded.” The soft and gentle voice said as I stepped out of the dressing room.
I looked up at her bright green eyes that was filled with life but at the same time held brokenness. “Why do you live?” I asked her and she looked at me with a confused expression. “What's the purpose behind your living?”
I saw she
didn't understand me and I just shook it off. “Forget it.”
