LUNA'S POV
I try to focus on my work, but it seems like there's nothing else running through my mind except that guy. My shift is almost over, so I can finally take a break. It's so confusing, we only recently met, but why do I feel this way? My attention was captured when my phone rang. I couldn't help but look at it before answering.
"Hello, Babe," Blake, my friend, greeted me.
"Why did you call?" I asked directly, not wanting to beat around the bush.
"You're so straight to the point," he chuckled, but I ignored it.
"It's just impossible for you to call without any reason."
"Yeah, you're right."
"Don't keep me hanging, what is it?" He probably noticed that I was running out of patience because I heard him sigh before speaking.
"You have a short temper. Anyway, I just wanted to ask what time you're done with your shift."
"If I'm not mistaken, my shift ends around 9 pm today."
"How about let's have dinner together?"
"Sure, no problem. Let's do it later, I'll finish my work first." I didn't wait for his response and ended the call.
I'm currently reading reports about the increasing number of drug dealers in our area. It's alarming because crime rates are rising, and it's difficult to combat drugs, especially when there are corrupt officials leading the efforts to combat such syndicates.
My thoughts and reading were interrupted by a knock on my office door.
"Come in,".
"Inspector Sanchez, the chief is calling for you." I just nodded, since it wasn't the first time he had called me to his office. As Officer Cruz left my office, I followed and headed to our chief's office, that troublesome person's office.
I knocked, and he let me in. I greeted him before speaking.
"You called for me, Chief?"
"Have a seat, and when it's just the two of us, you don't need to be formal." I rolled my eyes, perhaps scaring my fellow officers if they could see me.
"I can't do that, sir; we have rules."
"And I opted to disobey that rule. I am the chief, so technically, you have to follow my rules." I blinked my eyes to make sure I was seeing the person in front of me correctly.
"But, chief..."
"No buts. How about if I give you a punishment if you don't follow what I want?" He put his hand on his chin, seemingly deep in thought. What's wrong with this person?
"Why do you want me to be less formal when it's just the two of us?"
"I don't want us to be awkward with each other. I want us to be friends, or maybe more than that." I widened my eyes, and he even accompanied it with a wink.
"Seriously, you disturbed me at work just for this?"
"Not really. I was planning to ask you out. Since this is our first day working together, and you ditched me last night, I thought you could accompany me." I really can't understand this person, so bossy.
He may be bossy, but you still like him.
I shook my head because my brain was saying all sorts of things.
"What's happening to you?" he asked, surprised.
"N-Nothing. I can't do it now; I have an appointment with my friend." He raised an eyebrow.
"Cancel your appointment with him."
"And how did you know it was a guy?"
"I can read it on your face." I probably can't get away with this person; he always has an answer.
"Sorry, I can't."
"It's an order from your Chief Inspector," I was stunned. Is this person real? He stood up and approached me, causing my heart to race.
"S-Sir, I mean, Cirrus," I stuttered as he got closer, our faces only inches apart.
"I'm happy to know that I have this kind of effect on you. Should I punish you for being stubborn and not following my rules?" He didn't back away.
He smells really good.
See, you're already in love with his scent.
This brain is so annoying.
"Y-You don't have to, I-I'll come along." He finally distanced himself and returned to his seat, allowing me to breathe.
But why is it like this? Even though he always asserts his authority or says and does whatever he wants, I still feel comfortable around him.
"You know, Angel, I'm willing to be under your authority." I raised my eyebrows.
"Really now? Yet you always use your authority to your advantage."
"Just let me finish what I'm saying. I'm willing to be under your authority, once we become a couple." He gave me a suggestive look, and I blushed. Oh gosh! Am I getting giddy?
"You know so much, I'm going back to my office." I was about to stand up, but he stopped me.
"Why, did I give you permission?" I rolled my eyes.
"What's your deal?"
"I like you."
"Seriously, what happened to you? You're in such a flirty mood today. For your information, we just met yesterday." He shrugged, but nodded.
"Yeah, we just met yesterday, but there's something that I feel like I've known you for a very long time." I fell silent at his words because it's true, I feel the same way. I averted my gaze from him and let him be.
"You fell silent, you feel the same, right?" I looked at him again when he spoke.
"Whatever, I'm going out and I'll finish my work." I ignored him even though he called me several times. I entered my office and called Blake. He answered shortly after.
"Hello, Blake."
"Yes, babe? Are you going out now?"
"Actually, I can't tonight, I have some urgent things to do." I felt like it was urgent since it was an order from my Chief, right?
"That's a shame, I already booked our dinner, but it's alright. Finish your stuff and promise to hang out with me this week."
"Okay."
I only waited a short while for my shift to end. After tidying up my things, I left the office and was greeted by fellow police officers. I headed straight to Cirrus' office and caught him cleaning up.
"My shift's over, I'm leaving."
"Hold on! We have plans together," I rolled my eyes, thinking he had forgotten.
Girl, you don't have to ask for permission. If you really don't want to go, you can just escape and not go to him, but you still did. Admit it, if you want to.
I shook my head to clear whatever was entering my traitorous mind.
"What are you doing?" I realized that I had caught Cirrus' attention and I hadn't even noticed.
"N-Nothing. Are we leaving now?" He nodded and was about to approach me, but I raised my hand.
"Hold on! Let's not leave together because people might think of something. I'll go first, okay?" I turned around so he couldn't refuse.
"Make sure you don't run away, or else you'll be in big trouble." I just nodded as I was already facing away.
When I arrived at the parking area, I only waited for a moment because, after a few minutes, he had already arrived. He opened the door for me before he turned to go in. Once he was inside, I asked.
"Where are we going?" We already had dinner, so it was unlikely that he would invite me to a restaurant.
"What do you want to do?"
"Seriously! I am asking you a question, and then you're going to answer me with another question?" He chuckled as he moved the car so we could leave.
"You know you're such an adorable angel." I felt my cheeks warming up, so I just looked at the window, knowing that I was blushing even if I couldn't see my reflection.
"I don't know what you are talking about."
"What I mean, my angel, is what do you want to do? Eat, go for a stroll, walk around? So that's where we'll go." I looked at him, and he kept his gaze straight ahead on the road. There was something about him that made it impossible for me to resist, even though he could be bossy at times, it didn't bother me.
"I love walking, especially at night."
"So, where do you want to go? Eco Park or Circle?" They were the closest places for an evening walk, as the sights there were calming.
"Let's go to Circle." He didn't respond, and our drive was short. When we arrived, we just walked around without saying a word, but we didn't feel any awkwardness. It was as if even just being in each other's presence made us feel comfortable.
"We first met here." He was the first one to speak since we arrived.
"Yeah, how could I forget? I told you before that if you opened up to me, there would be no problem because we didn't know each other, and it was unlikely that we would meet again." Before he spoke, he gestured for me to sit on a bench there.
"But here we are, talking again and always being together because of work. What a destiny?" I never feel comfortable around any guy, even Blake, like I do when he's around. I shifted my gaze to the front, trying not to look at him, although I could feel his intense gaze at me.
"Have you ever been in a relationship?" He asked without hesitation. I looked at him and met his speaking eyes.
"I've never been in a relationship." His beautiful eyes widened, as if he couldn't believe what I had said.
"But how? I mean, you're so gorgeous, you look like an angel. I won't believe it if you say that no one has ever liked or courted you." I wanted to laugh at what he said, but I tried to keep a serious face so that we wouldn't lose the momentum of the conversation.
"I never said that no one liked or courted me, it's just that I don't respond to them or I'm not interested in them. I never feel comfortable around any guy, except---" I paused because I was referring to him.
"Except who?"
"You." I couldn't explain what I saw in his eyes. There was a sparkle and happiness in his eyes after I said that. He looked away, but I kept staring at him.
"You know, I feel the same way. I've never been close to any girls. You're the first person I've ever asked out. There's something special about you that I can't figure out. I'm comfortable being around you even though we just met yesterday; weird, right?" I felt a warm feeling inside me, as if I were melting. He looked at me softly, and I couldn't take my eyes off him.
"That's the first time I've heard those words. I always see myself as worthless and undeserving of everything." I wouldn't have realized my tears were falling if he hadn't gently wiped them away with his hand. He held me close as if we weren't already close enough. He looked directly into my eyes as if he was trying to understand me.
"Shh! Don't say that; an angel like you deserves every beautiful thing in this world." There was a warm feeling inside me, as if I were slowly melting, something I couldn't explain.
I removed his hand from my face and stood up from the bench, and he did the same.
"You're making me cry," I tried to change the topic because I felt like my heart was about to burst from the emotions he was making me feel.
I looked up when I felt a few raindrops on my skin. I was about to run, but he held my hand and pulled me, causing me to bury my face in his broad chest. I didn't know why I chose to hug him despite feeling the cold enveloping my body. I also felt his arms embracing me, and it felt so warm that I was on the verge of tears.
"Angel, the rain is getting heavier."
"Can we stay like this for a while?" He didn't answer, but I felt his hug tightening.
"If I could freeze this moment, I would keep you this close." A smile appeared on my face, even though he couldn't see it. I felt a tear slide down my cheek as he continued to hold me with his warm arms in the midst of the rain.
"You can always have me." I don't know why I'm feeling this way even though I said I wasn't ready for anything, but it seems like my feelings have changed now.
