Scene 1**
Catherine got home feeling unhappy, but not angry
Jonathan hasn’t done something like this before, He wouldn’t simply make her wait for hours without a reason so definitely something must have happened.
She changed her clothes and lay down on her bed, reaching for her phone. She wanted to talk to Skylar.
Typing……..
Catherine: Jonathan didn’t come today.
Skylar: Did he tell you why?
Catherine: No he hasn’t even texted me.
Skylar: You waited for him for that long and he didn't even send you a message.
Catherine: Something must have happened.
There was a brief pause before Skylar replied.
Skylar: I hope so.
Catherine stared at the message for a moment, she knew Skylar didn’t trust Jonathan completely but she didn’t want to think too much about it.
Not long after their conversation, a notification appeared on Catherine’s phone.
It was Jonathan.
📱Jonathan typing……
Jonathan: I’m so sorry, Cathe… we missed each other.
Catherine: I waited for sooo long..
Jonathan: I know, I will explain better tomorrow… meet me behind the auditorium before class.
Catherine smiles… her entire mood changes.
She placed her phone beside her, pulled the blanket over herself, and settled into bed for a nap
** Scene 2**
The following morning, Catherine woke up very excited.
She got ready very quickly. She found herself smiling as she checked her phone before leaving her room.
By the time Catherine arrived at school, the compound was already filled with students. She spotted Skylar near the entrance and walked towards her.
“You look happy this morning,” Skylar said,
Catherine smiled
“Hmm maybe.”
“ Jonathan texted last night.” She added.
“ he did?” Skylar asked
Cathrine nodded.
“ He apologized and said he would explain everything this morning.”
“And you’re meeting him?”
“Yes, behind the auditorium,” Catherine said
Skaykar looked at her
“Catherine….”
“What.”
“Just be careful.”
Catherine smiled
“I will.”
As soon as the first bell rang, Catherine waited until the other student had made their way to their classroom before leaving for the auditorium.
Her heart beat faster with every step.
She didn’t know what Jonathan wanted to tell her.
But, she couldn’t wait to hear it.
The moment she opened the door, she saw Jonathan standing by the window, his hands in his pockets.
The moment he saw her, his expression softened.
“Cathe…”
A smile immediately appeared on Catherine’s face.
“Hi.”
Jonathan walked towards her.
“I’m so sorry about yesterday.”
Catherine lowered her eyes.
“You really made me wait.”
“I know.”
He reached out for her hand.
“I didn’t mean to, something came up, and I couldn’t get away with it.”
Cathrine looked at him.
“Is everything okay?”
Jonathan hesitated for a moment.
“Yes, everything is fine.”
She studied his face, but there was nothing in his expression that made her doubt him.
“Then why didn't you call me?”
“ I should have. I’m sorry.”
Catherine smiled softly.
“
“It’s okay.”
Jonathan squeezed her hands.
“ I promise it will never happen again.”
Catherine looked at him for a moment before nodding.
“You promise?”
“ I promise.”
She smiled.
“ Then I forgive you.”
Jonathan pulled her into a hug.
Catherine rested her head against his chest, closing her eyes.
For those few moments, everything felt right again.
After a while, they pulled apart and headed back towards their classroom.
** Scene 3**
They both returned to the classroom, with Catherine going to her seat while Jonathan returned to his.
Class soon began, and the noise that had filled the room gradually faded as the morning lesson took over.
From time to time, Catherine's eyes drifted towards Jonathan, who sat a few seats away. At one point, he looked in her direction, and their eyes met.
Catherine quickly looked away with a smile.
She was still thinking about him when the bell suddenly rang.
Lunch!!!!!.
Almost immediately, students started closing their books and pushing their chairs back.
Catherine packed her things and looked towards Skylar.
“Are you going for lunch?”
Skylar nodded as she shifted her chair back to stand up
“Of course…. I’m starving.”
Catherine laughed.
The two girls made their way out of the classroom together, Catherine glanced back briefly.
Jonathan was standing near Sophia and a few of his friends.
Skylar noticed it too.
But Catherine simply turned back and continued walking.
**Scene 4**
The cafeteria was already crowded by the time Catherine and Skylar arrived. Students occupied most of the tables, their voices blending with the sound of chairs scraping against the floor.
Skylar followed Catherine towards the empty seat, but her mind was elsewhere. She was still trying to figure out what Jonathan could have been discussing with Sophia and her friends earlier
Catherine noticed the expression on her face.
“What are you thinking about?” Catherine asked, as they settled into their seats.
“So, you really didn’t notice how close Sophia was to Jonathan earlier ?”
Catherine frowned slightly.
“I noticed.”
“And you not curious about what they’re talking about?”
Cathrine looked at her face before a small smile appeared.
“No, Skylar, maybe she just wants to make friends”
“Make friends with your man?”, Skylar raised a brow, “Come on, Cathe…”
“Let’s eat Skylar, I trust Jonathan… okayyy?”
Skylar looked at her for a moment but didn’t say anything else.
Catherine might have trusted Jonathan completely, but Skylar couldn’t help wondering what Sophia was so interested in discussing with him.
A few tables away, Sophia sat with some of her friends.
Their laughter occasionally rose above the noise in the cafeteria, drawing Catherine’s attention for a moment before she returned to her food.
Skylar, however, noticed when Sophia looked in their direction.
Once.
Then again.
“Why does she keep looking over here?”
Skylar said.
Catherine turned slightly.
Sophia immediately looked away.
“Who?”
“Sophia.”
Catherine followed Skylar's gaze.
Sophia was talking to one of her friends, her lips curled into a smile.
“Maybe you’re overthinking things again.”
Skylar gave an unimpressed look.
“Maybe.”
Before Catherine could say anything else, one of Sophia’s friends laughed
“Imagine having a boyfriend like Jonathan and still not caring enough to work on your appearance” Sophia said loudly.
The girls around her laughed.
Cathrine’s hand folded around her spoon.
For a moment, she ignored it.
Maybe they weren’t talking about her.
But when Sophia’s eyes moved towards her stomach, Cathrine immediately understood.
Her gaze slowly dropped to her own body.
The fabric of her uniform rested on her full figure, and her stomach curved noticeably beneath it.
She had always been aware of it.
She didn’t need Sophia to remind her.
Skylar put down her spoon.
“Is there something you want to say?”
The laughter from Sophia’s table faded.
Sophia looked at Skylar.
“Excuse me?”
“If you have something to say about Catherine say it directly.”
Sophia’s expression changed to an innocent one.
“Did I mention Catherine’s name?”
“You didn’t have to.”
Sophia leaned back in her chair.
“Then maybe you both are just feeling guilty for no reason.”
Catherine felt her face grow warm.
“Skaylar.” She whispered “Just leave it.”
But Skaylar wasn’t having it.
“No!!!, she kept making indirect comments and then pretended she didn’t know what she was doing.”
Sophia shrugged.
“Not everything is about your friend.”
Catherine lowered her head.
She wished the conversation would just end.
The happiness she carried with her since that morning was slowly disappearing.
Then a familiar voice interrupted them.
“What’s going on?”
Cathrine looked up.
Jonathan stood beside the table.
His gaze moved from Skaylar to Sophia before finally settling on Cathrine.
She looked uncomfortable.
He immediately knew something was wrong.
The cafeteria fell silent as everyone waited to see what would happen next.
“Nothing, “Your girlfriend’s friend is just taking things too personally.”
Skylar scoffed.
“Tell him what you said.”
Sophia looked at Jonathan.
“ I was talking to my friends. That’s all”
Jonathan’s expression hardened slightly.
“What did you say?”
Sophia hesitated.
One of her friends shifted uncomfortably in her seat
Jonathan looked directly at Sophia.
“Sophia.”
She sighed.
“It wasn’t that serious.”
“Then what did you say?”
Sophia folded her arms
“I just said having a boyfriend like you and she doesn’t even care to do something about her body”
Silence followed.
Catherine felt as though every eye in the cafeteria was in her direction.
She wanted to disappear.
Jonathan looked at Sophia for a few seconds.
Then he spoke
“If you still want to be in this school, don’t make comments about Catherine’s body again.”
Sophia’s smile faded.
“Jonathan…”
“I mean it.”
The firmness in his voice surprised everyone in the cafeteria.
Sophia started at him
“I was only joking.”
“Well, she didn’t find it funny.”
Cathrine slowly looked at him.
Jonathan glanced at her before looking back to Sophia.
“Whatever problem you have with Cathrine, leave her body out of it.”
Sophia looked visibly offended.
“So, now I can’t make a joke?”
“You can joke with whatever you want,” Jonathan replied, “Just don’t use my girlfriend as the joke.”
For the first time since the conversation began, Skaylar said nothing.
She simply watched Jonathan.
Sophia picked up her drink and looked away.
“Fine.”
Jonathan turned to Catherine.
“Are you okay?”
Cathrine nodded, even though her eyes were beginning to sting.
“I’m fine.”
But Jonathan knew she wasn’t.
He gently took her hand.
“Come with me.”
Catherine stood up slowly.
Before leaving, she looked back at Skaylar.
“I will be back.”
Skaylar nodded, though her eyes briefly moved towards Sophia.
Jonathan led Cathrine away from the table to the quieter part of the cafe.
For a few seconds, neither of them spoke.
“You didn’t have to do that.”
Jonathan frowned.
“Do what?”
“Defend me”
He looked at her confused.
Cathrine lowered her eyes.
“I don’t want you to get into an argument with Sophia because of me.”
Jonathan gently lifted her chin.
“Cathe…. Listen to me.”
“Nobody gets to make you feel bad about yourself. Not Sophia, not anyone.”
For a moment Cathrine didn’t say anything.
The embarrassment she had felt minutes earlier slowly began to fade.
A small smile appeared on her face.
“Thank you.”
Jonathan smiled back
“You don’t have to thank me.”
But Cathrine did.
At that moment, she trusted Jonathan more than ever.
A small smile remained on her face as she watched him walk back towards his friends as she returned to join Skaylar at the table.
