Our journey, even as short as it is, took a whole lot longer than anyone expected. We reached the creek, but it looked more like a raging river. It was deep and wide and looked like a kayaker’s dream. We stood there and listened to the rumble of boulders being washed downstream by the powerful current. When I turned to say something more to Annie, she was gone. I saw her rounding the corner nearly back to the cabin.
