The night they found me, was a day or two after the attack. I was scared. I hadn't heard from my mother or father. I did as my mom had told me. I stayed there until someone opened the door. You had to have a special code to get into the room.
I wasn't allowed to leave no matter what I heard I was supposed to stay quiet. As Quiet as a mouse or quieter is how I remember mom wording it.
The safe room was a well lit room, but you couldn't see the lights from the outside. When you walked in and looked straight ahead, there was a shelf with canned foods to last 3 people at least a couple of months. Daddy always liked to be prepared.
Then you turned to the left and there was a small entrance way to another room. This room had bunk beds. The bottom bunk was for me and mom. The top was for dad. Across from the beds was a desk where dad had his computer. I didn't know how to work it. But, I liked coming down here to watch daddy work on the computer. On the wall all around were pictures. Some of us as a family, others were pictures I drew my mom and dad and we decided they'd be safest in the safe room.
In the corner of the room was an area where you could go to the bathroom and shower if you needed to.
For almost 2 days I stayed in the room waiting for mom or dad to come get me and tell me it was ok to come out. But, neither of them came. Then one night I heard footsteps leading to the room. I went to the door and listened.
First, I heard a man's voice. But, it wasn't my dad's. I got scared and hid under the desk in our sleeping room.
"Luna Lucy, I found it!"
"Great work Samuel, I know James hid it in here. I can almost bet on it."
The Luna opened the door and walked into the room with the food and continued to talk to Samuel.
"If you don't mind me asking Luna what are we looking for?"
" James always went on and on about some great weapon he discovered, something that would either benefit all werewolf kind or destroy it depending on how it was used."
" Did he really possess something so powerful and never turn it over to the king?"
" I can't really be sure, honestly. But, he said he treasured it more than anything else in his possession. Something that precious to him has got to be more powerful than anything the king or anyone could ever imagine. He'd definitely keep it to himself. Especially since he thought he was all powerful himself. You know him having the most territory other than the king, himself of course."
"Do you know what it looks like ?"
"No, but it has to be here somewhere. I'll check the other room."
I stayed hidden. I didn't want them to see me. I did remember mom saying that only family could open the door but it had been days and no one had come. I studied her from under the desk the best I could without giving out my location. The Luna was beautiful. She had black hair pulled up into a bun, blue eyes, and tan skin like mine. Her face was kind of long but it only made her look that much more stunning.
When she walked over to the desk, I scooted back even further under it trying not to make a sound. She had turned her body away from the desk to face Samuel.
"Samuel, you look behind the picture of the family. He has to have a safe in here some where."
(Hmmm.... James is my dad , this could be my aunt) I thought to myself.
Then she bent down to go through the drawers and spotted me. Her whole expression changed from that of interest to that of disdain.
She reached under the table, grabbed my arm and drug me out.
" Please, let me go. You're hurting me!" I yelled.
" I thought you were killed with your worthless mother."
"No.., Mom's not dead. She's the strongest Luna alive." I started crying.
With a SLAP! I felt a huge sting on my face and I'm knocked to the floor. Then, as I was trying to stand I felt a huge kick to my ribs. I lay on the floor trying to catch my breath as tears streamed down my face.
"Your mother was a poor excuse for a Luna and looking at you you're just as worthless as she was, you little runt. Don't worry Amara. You'll see your parents again really soon."
Luna turned her head to look at Samuel.
"Samuel, take this little runt upstairs, slit her throat and lay her body next to her mother."
" But Luna, I can't. I mean, don't you think it'd be a waist?"
A claw flung across the left side of Samuel's face, leaving behind a horrid gash. The Luna's eyes were as red as the blood dripping down Samuel's face.
Samuel held his face for almost a full minute before releasing it and looking at his Luna who's eyes were starting to change back to their cool blue color.
"Don't ever tell me you can't or won't do something. I am your Luna. You will obey. Whatever I tell you to do ,you do. Do you understand?"
"I understand Luna Lucy....I was only thinking of the consequences."
"The Moon Goddess, Luna, Taking an innocent child's life. It would displease her. The last pack that took a child's life was cursed. I just didn't think you would want our pack to suffer the same fate."
"and what fate was that?" Luna Lucy said, almost laughing at Samuel's response.
"She cursed the pack. Spread a sickness that wiped out all of age shewolves, including their Luna. The sickness then spread to the men and children, sterilizing them. So that the pack would eventually die out and the legacy of the pack would die out all together."
"Oh, that's just a story."
"Is it? Or, is their truth to the story? It was in fact the Cold Mountain pack that it happened to. You know as well as anyone. There's only a hand full of members left in that pack and they are all older than any of us."
At this point Luna Lucy had her back to me. Completely facing Samuel. Staring at him as if she was thinking really hard about something.
"Fine" she exasperated, throwing her hands in the air.
Samuel flinched, it was a normal reflex really.
"She's your responsibility. You have to feed her. She is to stay under lock and key unless she is working. When she is working, you are to be in charge of her. You will make her useful. Do you understand?"
Samuel nodded in understanding.
"Housework would be best. We don't want her outside at all. I'll have to fire over half my staff. So, you and her will be in charge of cooking and cleaning. We can't let anyone, and I mean anyone besides me, you , my alpha and the twins know of her existence. As far as anyone knows, she died with her parents. We absolutely can't let anyone know she's alive. She will be required to wear a shock collar. You know the kind for those dogs that never stop barking because the last thing I want to hear in my house is some bullshit crying or screaming." The Luna paused for a second and looked back at me.
By this point, I was against the wall tucked in a little ball trying to stay as small as possible. She turned to face Samuel.
"We'll have to find a room for this runt. Marcus isn't going to like it. But, I think the torture room would be the best place to keep her. It's sound proof. My Alpha is just going to have to find another place to torture his prisoners. Ugh.. He's not going to be happy. Tie her up and gag her . We'll have to keep her here in this room till the others leave."
Samuel knelt down and undid his shoe laces. He stood up, looked at me and started to walk towards me.
"No, please don't," I pleaded.
He reached for my hands, which were tightly secured around my stuffy. I scooted down the wall further away from him till the was no where to go. He grabbed my arms.
" Oh, for Goddess sakes." Luna said, grabbing something from her bag. It was a needle and a vial.
" hold her still and cover her mouth."
Samuel did the best he could. It seemed as if he didn't want to hurt me. He jumped behind me, straddled his legs around my torso, wrapped his left hand around my mouth, and grabbed my arms tight enough to hold me still. The Luna put the needle in my arm. I only remember slowly falling asleep in Samuel's arms.
