Chapter Thirteen - A Silver Pendant

417 Words
Luna's POV The next morning, I woke feeling exhausted. Every part of me ached. Not from my ankle. From thinking. Princess. Moonblood. None of it made sense. I had spent nineteen years believing I was nobody. Now strangers were risking their lives to find me. Why? --- After breakfast, Elara knocked gently on my door. "Luna?" "Yes?" "I have something that belongs to you." I frowned. "To me?" She nodded and handed me a small wooden box. "We found it among the things you arrived with." I blinked. "I didn't have anything." "You had one thing." My hands trembled as I opened the box. Inside rested a delicate silver pendant. It was shaped like a crescent moon surrounded by tiny stars. It was beautiful. "I've never seen this before." Elara looked surprised. "It was hidden inside the lining of your old cloak." I carefully picked it up. The metal felt strangely warm against my skin. The moment I fastened it around my neck... A sharp pain shot through my head. Images flashed before my eyes. A woman with long silver hair smiling at me. A man's deep laugh. A castle. Fire. Someone running through dark hallways while carrying a baby. "Protect her!" "Don't let them find the princess!" I gasped. The vision vanished. The box slipped from my hands. "Luna!" Elara caught me before I fell. "I..." Tears blurred my vision. "I saw something." --- A short time later... Kael arrived. The moment he entered the room, he noticed the pendant. His eyes narrowed. "You remembered something." I looked at him in shock. "How did you know?" "Your heartbeat changed." I told him everything. The castle. The fire. The voices. When I finished, neither of us spoke. Finally, Kael reached out and gently held the pendant. Etched into the back was a tiny symbol. A silver moon surrounded by twelve stars. Marcus, who had just entered the room, stopped dead. "I know that crest." Kael looked up. "You've seen it before?" Marcus nodded slowly. "In history books." Silence filled the room. He looked directly at Luna. "...It belonged to the royal Moonblood family." Luna's face went pale. "No..." Marcus swallowed. "They disappeared twenty years ago." Kael looked at the pendant once more. Then at Luna. His heart sank. The attackers hadn't been lying. His mate wasn't just any omega. She was connected to the greatest mystery in werewolf history. And if the wrong people learned the truth... Every pack in the kingdom would come looking for her.
