CHAPTER 11

LILITH’S POV

It has barely been a day and I am already feeling like s**t, yesterday I got a call that I have gotten the job but I have to go through a week training to learn how things are run in the restaurant, I have to make sure I come to work at 4:30 pm and close by 9 pm every weekday and come to work at 10 am and close by 6 pm. That same night I was scolded by my parents for walking out on them and I quote ‘You are setting a bad example for your little brother’ hypocrites I tell you, they mentioned something like I should hang out with Jacob and apologize. Grandma kept giving me a strange look and she keeps acting nice but at the same keeping her distance, she should understand that we won’t just get close out of the blue because she apologized and is concerned about me, everything takes time. Which explains why I am in this situation right now and why Axel is looking a bit surprised, Rachel is glaring at me like that will kill me, Jacob is smirking like an imbecile and West is looking uninterested as i am standing in front of them all 

“Jacob, a word please.” I requested in a kind manner I think

“We can talk right here baby girl” he replied arrogantly while using his hand to brush some of the fallen hair out of his face

Baby girl, inhaling sharply as my life depended on it, that is the same name he used on me whenever he forced himself on me or as he watched as he friends use me-

NO! Lilith do not go there, do not think about it

Closing my eyes, inhale and exhale

Opening my eyes I see a hand waving in front of my face, Rachel

“Why are you always zoning out like a creep” she questioned disapprovingly like I give two f**k what she thinks

Focus Lilith, you came over to their table to ask Jacob about the contract

“Jacob-

The teacher suddenly barged in the class, everyone rushed to their seats. Come on! With an annoyed huff, I went back to my sit

“Good morning class, so the result for the biology test we took previously is out and you can see your result at the end of the class. Well done Esther, you did a good job having the highest score, and the rest of you, you can do better. So the topic for today is-“

Argh biology was never my favorite subject but John and Samantha expect the perfect result, not as I care about what they think but I do not have the mental energy to be shouted on again. I feel so sleepy just one minute…

Rrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

“So class make sure you submit your assignment by Friday”

Getting up from my seat, I look over for Jacob, I need to talk to him

“Emmm, hi Lilith” Esther emitted nervously while tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. She looks so cute

“I wanted to give you a study note/guide, last time I notice biology is not one of your favorite subjects. So I thought this will help” Esther replied shyly as she looked anywhere but my eyes

If I could just slap my past self, I will for my stupidity. But why is she so nice to me, I can’t help but wonder

“Why?” I could not help but be curious as to why she is so nice to me and wants to be friends with someone like me; last I remember I was more like a bully like Bianca

“You were the only person that cared and tried to help me when my mother died and you also prevented my suicide attempt and helped me get back on my feet even though we weren’t close enough. So I promised myself to make sure us emm become f-r-iends” she said with sparkly eyes that holds nothing but sincerity

I do not remember doing such, am I suffering from amnesia or something? Wow, so it is more out of feeling indebted to me?

“No I am not doing so because I feel indebted to you; I like you as a person. I was wondering if we could hang out later today?” I watch as her face changes from different expressions till it settles to a hopeful one

Arghhh but I have work today; she is giving me the puppy eyes

“I have work after school and I close by 9 pm and I am pretty sure you will be asleep-“

 “No, we can have a sleepover, I do not mind. And my dad is barely at home so I can go to sleep anytime I want” she explained hurriedly with excitement 

Great! Just my luck, but look at the bright side I won’t see John and Samantha the next day

“Okay sure, I will come over after work. Just text me your address. Bye I have to go” I explained while stuffing my biology book in my bag as I try to do catch up with Jacob

Where did he go to? Maybe he is in the cafeteria 

“Lilith wait up” looking over to my shoulder I see my brother

“Here is your meal, grandma said I should give this to you and she also packed some for me” William stated while he handed me the food

Hmmm, when did she start packing for our lunches or anything at all?

“Alright, I got to go” he darted out as he made way to where he came from

Putting the packed lunch in my bag, I continue my search for Jacob but I still could not find him. The bell rang eventually and class continued, after school, I made sure my brother arrived home safely and change to head to work

“Did you eat the food I made you?”

Turning to see who is talking to me, I see it is just my grandma glancing over the wristwatch I see it is 4:25 pm I am going to be late on my first day that is not a good impression

“I ate it, thank you ma” I replied politely while my eye keeps darting over to the door, I am going to be late

“You enjoyed the pasta I made you?” she interrogated while she leaned on her walking stick

“Yes, very nice I enjoyed it” 

“Lie, I made you lasagna, not pasta. You did not eat it? I notice how you do not eat but only drink water, that is not healthy you know” she cautioned me

“Okay you caught me; I will make sure I eat more now. Can I please go? I have work and I am running late”

Grandma looks at me disapprovingly and turns away, taking this as a sign to leave I rushed out

“You are 20 minutes late for work; the manager was looking for you he said you should come to his office whenever you arrive” 

Shoot!!! Lilith thinks! Think! 

Going to his office, I knock and a ‘come in’ was heard

“You are late on your first day” Mr. Daniel seemed so emerged in the paper he was holding that his voice startled me

“You can’t blame me; I am a high school student. School close by 4 pm, 30 minutes drive from school to home, I have to prepare for my brother a meal and make sure he is okay before heading over here that alone takes up to a 1hr”
