Chapter 30‘Aren’t you being a bit pedantic?’ ‘You can’t be a bit pedantic.’ GL was enjoying the wit and wisdom of his old friends back in England. James Blakeney had organised a house party in honour of GL’s short visit to his homeland, and six of his best pals had come down to Hampshire with their wives and girlfriends especially to see him. They were all sitting happily in the drawing room of Molesey House, the Georgian manor in West Sussex that James had taken over when his parents moved into a cottage in the grounds. It was just like old times: drinks before dinner around a huge log fire, catching up with the gossip and the families – and there was to be a day’s shooting tomorrow. Behind them the door opened and James’s wife Annabel entered, small and pretty in a green velvet gown.
