Chapter 31It was the day the sky fell in for the President and his Chief of Staff.
At 9.02 on that Saturday morning, Jeff Stone’s secretary Linda took a call which she reported immediately to her boss.
‘He gave his name as Danny Keown. He said he was a CIA desk operative in K Division based at Langley. He asked to see you personally on a matter that ranks at P1 level.’ Linda was familiar with Priority 1 Security. And she knew that a P1 was way beyond her pay grade.
The caller had given Linda his ID code, a seven-digit number that changed daily. The number and name tallied with the Section K code list held in an encrypted file in the President’s office.
Stone called the number the man had given to Linda. A man’s voice answered.
‘This is Jeff Stone. Give me your real-time ID.’ The voice
