The Pastor’s Other Daughter
The Pastor’s Other Daughter
Chapter 1: The Truth She Took to the Grave
The beeping of the hospital monitor echoed in the cold, white room like a ticking clock counting down a secret’s final breath. Ayanda sat stiffly on the edge of the plastic chair, her hands nervously folded on her lap, eyes fixed on the frail woman lying in the hospital bed—her grandmother, Gogo Nomvula, the only family she had left. “Come closer, ntombi yami…” the old woman whispered, her voice barely louder than a breeze. Ayanda leaned in, brushing back a tear before it fell. “I’m here, Gogo. Please don’t go.”
Gogo Nomvula gave a faint smile, her eyes misty and tired. “There’s something I’ve kept from you… something I was wrong to hide.” Ayanda’s heart skipped. “What is it?” The old woman’s hand reached for hers, fragile and cold. “Your father… is not dead.” Silence. Ayanda froze, her entire body tensing. “What do you mean?” Her voice cracked. “Mama said he died when I was a baby.” “She lied,” Gogo whispered. “I made her lie. He… he is alive. And very powerful now. A man of God.” “What?” “Your father is… Pastor Themba Dlamini. From Victory Fire Ministries.” Ayanda recoiled. “No. No, that can’t be true.” She knew that name—everyone did.
He was all over TV and social media, praying for sick people, building churches, wearing expensive suits and designer watches. The same man who’d never once reached out to her. Gogo Nomvula coughed violently, her words breaking apart. “He paid me to keep quiet. He… wanted to protect his image. His wife never knew.” Ayanda’s heart twisted like a knife. “He abandoned us?” “He denied you,” Gogo croaked. “But now… you must decide what you’ll do with the truth.” Before Ayanda could speak, the monitor went flat. Just like that, Gogo Nomvula was gone, taking years of silence with her. Ayanda sat still, numb and cold. Her father—alive, rich, respected, and living in Sandton… while she grew up eating pap and cabbage in a backroom in KwaMashu. Her fists clenched. He thought he buried the truth. But now, his sins had risen from the grave. And Ayanda was ready to make him face them.
