“You can have the spotlight of the world, but your nights belong only to me.”

To the public, Cloud (Yun Yu) is the untouchable, clear-and-cold idol who shines alone on stage.

Behind closed doors, however, he is bound by a secret marriage contract to Lu Jue—the man whose influence silently controls the entertainment industry.

What began as a business arrangement meant to protect their families slowly turns into something neither of them expected.

Cloud wants recognition for his own talent, not the shadow of Lu Jue’s power. Lu Jue, used to absolute control, finds himself unable to remain distant.

As scandals erupt and hidden truths threaten to surface, the world begins to question: Who is the man standing behind the rising star?

In a relationship forged by contract and tested by ambition, will they break free—or remain bound together under the spotlight?

Chapter 1
At six in the evening, Yun Yu was woken up by the alarm clock. August, the weather was hot. Outside, the sky had not yet darkened. The room was very quiet. After turning off the alarm, Yun Yu saw that his agent had called him several times. Yun Yu had been waiting on set all night and this morning. But the lead actor took a long time to get through a few scenes. The director got angry and dismissed everyone without caring about the actors who had waited for hours just for a few minutes of screen time. After napping for the afternoon, Yun Yu still remembered the group chat saying they would shoot the part from last night tonight. He set an alarm for himself. But before he went to sleep, he forgot to turn off the phone's silent mode. He splashed cold water on his face, then called back his agent. Before he could explain, Gu Lin, his agent, spoke first: "Woke up? I'm passing by your place. I'll come pick you up. Get ready, don't forget anything." Yun Yu's hair was still dripping. He wiped it with a tissue, looking confused. "Pick me up? Is there something tonight? I still have a scene to shoot." "You... didn't get the notification?" Gu Lin paused, suddenly unsure how to continue. Gu Lin was a veteran agent, managing several artists who were not particularly famous. Yun Yu was one of them. He had been with Gu Lin for over two years, playing small roles with little screen time. Gu Lin always felt a bit sorry for him. Yun Yu had a very pretty face. When he submitted his resume to their company, many agents wanted him. With such a beautiful, cool face, even if he was just a pretty face, he could become popular. But during the interview, Yun Yu admitted he had no acting skills and even performed a segment for them. He wasn't lying. His acting was... hard to describe. But lack of acting skills didn't matter. There were many actors in the entertainment industry who became famous despite having no talent. Gu Lin liked him but knew he couldn't compete with those big agents. Then Yun Yu said he was already married and hoped the agent wouldn't control him too much. He wanted the right to choose his own scripts. This sounded more like someone coming to be a boss rather than an interviewee. The other agents left immediately. They hadn't even made a name for themselves and were already making demands. Only Gu Lin stayed. At first, Gu Lin thought Yun Yu might have a bad temper. But after signing him, he found Yun Yu never caused trouble. He said he was married, but no one ever saw him with anyone. Besides being picky about scripts and not liking variety shows, he was very obedient. He was the least troublesome of Gu Lin's artists. Even though he was easy to manage, Gu Lin still cared a lot about him. Gu Lin was determined. He believed Yun Yu's face could make him famous. In the entertainment industry, looks mattered. Otherwise, with Yun Yu's acting, how could he get any role? But... the industry also valued background. Gu Lin adjusted his tone, trying to comfort him: "Someone else got your role. It's fine, it was just a small part. Forget about it. I'm almost at the hotel. Think about what you want to eat. Big bro will treat you." Gu Lin only learned about this from another agent this morning. He thought Yun Yu had already been notified by the production team. Afraid Yun Yu might run into the other person on set, he rushed to pick him up. Yun Yu had been shooting this drama for over a month. His role was minor, usually filming a few minutes every two or three days. Last night's scene was one he had prepared for a long time and really liked. Suddenly, he was told someone else got the role... Yun Yu understood what this meant. This kind of thing happened often in the industry. But Yun Yu's role wasn't important. If someone wanted to promote an actor, they would give them a better, more visible role, not replace him mid-way, which would require paying a penalty. And the production team hadn't notified him. Yun Yu checked his phone. There was no message about the role change. He knew Gu Lin wouldn't lie to him. Staring at his reflection, Yun Yu threw away the wet tissue and asked calmly: "Can I know who took my role?" He didn't sound too upset. Gu Lin was worried he was suppressing his emotions. He knew Yun Yu had prepared a lot for this role. Even though his acting was poor, Yun Yu took acting seriously. "It's Su Chen from our company," Gu Lin whispered, as if afraid someone might hear. "Don't cause trouble with him. He's had some luck recently." Yun Yu vaguely remembered the name but couldn't recall what Su Chen looked like. He lowered his eyelids and said, "Oh." He didn't continue the topic. After hanging up, Yun Yu continued looking at the mirror. The mirror reflected a beautiful face. Double eyelids, slightly upturned eyes, a hint of allure, but his gaze revealed little emotion. Thin lips, reddened from the water, flawless skin even up close. After a while, the person in the mirror sighed softly. How could someone take his role? He had chosen a minor part with little screen time. Yun Yu didn't have many things. Summer clothes barely filled a suitcase. The place he lived in wasn't great, and he didn't feel attached. He wasn't famous, so he wasn't too worried about being recognized. He just put on a hat and mask and left. Gu Lin's car was parked outside the hotel. Seeing Yun Yu, he quickly helped with the luggage and checked if he had lost weight. "I found a nearby barbecue place with good reviews. Want to try it?" Most artists needed to maintain their figures and avoid junk food, but since Yun Yu had lost his job, a little indulgence was okay. Yun Yu was looking at his phone. Hearing Gu Lin, he hesitated, then shook his head. "Big bro, can we go here instead?" Gu Lin searched the location on the car's GPS: "..." "Are you sure? Even though I'm treating, it's... a bit expensive. But I just got paid, so I can afford it." The restaurant was pricey, and Gu Lin felt the pinch. Yun Yu didn't intend to let him pay, but remembering Gu Lin's concerned tone, he smiled. "Thanks, big bro." He would add the money to Gu Lin's bonus later. Yun Yu's face looked cold, but he often smiled. When he did, his eyes curved, reducing the distance, making him more lively and beautiful. Gu Lin was momentarily dazzled by his smile, coughed tactically, and brought up Su Chen again. Su Chen was one of their company's less prominent artists. A few months ago, he participated in a reality show and came back with better opportunities. "He even got a role in Lu Jue's new movie." "...Lu Jue?" Yun Yu had been listening quietly, but at the mention of Lu Jue, he reacted. Mentioning this, Gu Lin got angry. "Yes, Lu Jue. That Lu Jue. Didn't you hear he's preparing a new movie? I don't know who's behind Su Chen, but they managed to get him a role in Lu Jue's film." Lu Jue, as Gu Lin described, was a true film emperor. Though only thirty-three, Lu Jue had many acclaimed films and won awards both domestically and internationally. Actors in his movies needed to be talented. Gu Lin thought Su Chen must have a powerful backer. Finding a patron was common in the industry. Many agents in their company liked to push their artists into bed with capital, but Gu Lin disliked such methods. But he had to admit, it was faster than working step by step. As Gu Lin ranted, Yun Yu looked around, then picked up a bag of candy from the front seat. He found a yellow-wrapped pineapple-flavored one and handed it to Gu Lin, tilting his head with a smile: "Big bro, don't be angry." He remembered Gu Lin liked pineapple. Gu Lin was touched, about to say something, when Yun Yu mumbled: "But Lu Jue seems to have returned to the country." If you enjoyed this chapter, please consider voting for the story.
