Boss's offer
"Hey newbie, what are you doing over there? Where's the report I asked for?" said a woman to her subordinate.
"Well, Tsuri, I didn't dare to come in because both our bosses are currently in a heated argu—"
"I don't care, Gwen. The report needs to be done before lunchtime," the woman interrupted as she walked away.
Gwen, the young woman in question, then chased after her. "But inside, both our bosses are arguing, how could I possibly go in and ask for the report?" she explained.
"Did you eavesdrop on their conversation? That's rude!"
Gwen made a cross sign with her hand. "I wasn't eavesdropping, it's just that I heard it from outside."
"Anyway, the report needs to be on my desk before lunchtime, period," Tsuri said firmly.
Gwen sighed heavily, unsure how to complete her task. With a heavy heart, she returned to the multinational company's leadership room. Upon arriving at the front of the large room, she mustered the courage to knock on the door. But what happened next was quite the opposite.
The door opened from the inside, someone pulled her in. "Here she is, Grandpa. She's a bit shy, so I had to drag her in."
Although surprised by the words of the tall man next to her, Gwen was grateful because he explained the situation she was facing. "Good afternoon, Mr. Jason Cartwright. I'm Gwyneth Stewart, or Gwen for short, pleased to meet you," she greeted warmly. "I came here to—"
"So this is your chosen woman?"
Gwen's heart skipped a beat upon hearing that, she then diverted her attention to the handsome man. "Chosen woman?" she muttered.
"That's right, Grandpa, she's my future wife."
"Future wife?" Gwen exclaimed loudly, even stepping back. "I came here not to—"
"Beautiful, and she looks smart too. This time, you've chosen a life partner according to my expectations, Dom," the old man proudly praised his beloved grandson. Gwen truly didn't understand the conversation between the two big bosses.
"Did you hear that, dear?" the man said, smiling broadly at Gwen. "I didn't make a wrong choice picking you."
Gwen furrowed her brow, puzzled by the situation she was now facing. On the other hand, her heart fluttered upon receiving a deadly smile from a Dominic Cartwright.
"Now that I've met your chosen bride, my business here is done, I'm going home," Mr. Charles said as he rose from his leadership chair. "You arrange the wedding date, as soon as possible."
"Alright, Grandpa," Dom replied shortly.
"Please take care of her, don't let her befriend any shady guys," the elder man said to Gwen. She nodded in response to the elder man's words, even though she didn't understand his meaning.
Mr. Charles had already left, the door was closed, leaving Gwen and Dominic alone in the room. Somehow, the atmosphere immediately changed when the handsome man with long hair walked towards his desk.
"Hey you, sit here. I want to talk," he commanded.
Dominic reverted to his usual self, no more sweet smiles. What he showed Gwen now was his stern face. "Y-yes, sir."
"I've never seen you before, are you a new employee here?"
"Y-yes, sir, I've only been working here for two weeks," Gwen replied timidly, feeling intimidated by the man's imposing aura.
"No wonder, there are some things you don't know yet. One of them is that employees are not allowed to enter my office when my grandfather visits. You should've been reprimanded, but because you helped me, you're forgiven."
Gwen immediately looked saddened, she didn't want to enter the room either but there was a task she had to do, so she barged in. "I'm truly sorry, sir, I sincerely apologize."
"Forget about it, forget about everything that happened in this room. Just pretend you never heard anything, there's no future wife or chosen woman. Understand?" Dom asked in a low voice.
"Y-yes, sir," she replied.
"Good, now you may leave. Get back to your work!"
"Y-yes, sir, but before I leave, I need last month's financial documents," Gwen said, not forgetting her task. Dominic promptly provided what she needed. After that, Gwen quickly left the room.
She walked briskly towards Tsuri's desk, handing over the documents. "You're amazing, Gwen, you dared to enter when the two big bosses were arguing," praised the woman, patting Gwen's shoulder. "What were they talking about? About Mr. Boss not liking women or something else."
"Not liking women? What does that mean?"
"It's become common knowledge that Mr. Dominic, the handsome one, doesn't like women. The news spread widely, causing contract cancellations. There's no other way to quell the gossip except by marrying him off to a woman," Tsuri explained at length.
"And then?"
"Unfortunately, until now he hasn't found a suitable girl," Tsuri added. Gwen fell silent, trying to connect the information she had received with the incident earlier. "So what were they talking about inside?"
"I don't know," she replied shortly. Gwen didn't want to tell what happened earlier.
"What's wrong with you? Where are the files I asked for?"
Gwen handed over the files to her boss and then quickly returned to her desk. She buried her head in her hands while murmuring. "Forget about what happened earlier, Gwen. He doesn't like women. You were just used as an excuse to his grandfather."
The woman diverted her thoughts by returning to work, Gwen immersed herself in all her tasks. Before she knew it, lunchtime had arrived. Tsuri approached her, inviting her to lunch, but Gwen refused, for some reason she just wanted to be alone now.
After Tsuri left, the beautiful woman returned to her computer screen. But once again, someone disturbed her, Dominic suddenly approached her. "To my office now, there's something I want to say."
"Yes, sir."
Gwen followed Dominic's lead, and they had now arrived at his office.
"Sit down," the handsome man commanded. "Listen to me carefully, I've changed my mind now."
Gwen furrowed her brow, not understanding the meaning of his words. "What do you mean, sir? Changed your mind about what?"
"After some thought, I'm interested in giving you an enticing offer," Dominic said with a smile.
"An offer?" Gwen asked, confused.
"Yes, a special offer," Dominic nodded. "How about becoming my contract wife?"
