New town new job
We just moved to Seattle, but not the city. A small town right outside of the city is more like it. My name is Adriana. I am short. I stand at 4 feet 11 inches. I have long brown hair and my eyes are a little different. I have one blue and one brown eye. My curves are all in the right places. I live with my stepfather Frank and my mother, if you can call her that. I don't call her Phoebe. She was never a mom, not the mom you would want. She would hit me when she got mad, even if I wasn't the one to make her mad. She never cooked. If it wasn't for school, I wouldn't have eaten a lot of the time. I thought things would have gotten better when she met Frank. Maybe she will get over my dad leaving her. That did not happen. If anything got worse, Frank would try to hit me as well.
As you can see, my life is not all that easy. My life has been hard, but I do not let it get me down. I know there is more out there for me. This will not always be my life. I am starting a new school in the next couple of days. Yay right no, we had to move because Phoebe and Frank didn't pay the rent so we had to move, but. But in this new house I do have my own room and it has a lock on it I am so thankful for that. I just hope I can get through the next month. In one month, it is my 18th birthday. I have been saving money to be able to leave when I turn 18. I am counting the days until October 31st (Yes I am a Halloween baby).
Today is Saturday. I am looking for a job. I need a job that will let me work after school. After putting on jeans and a white t-shirt and white shoes, I walked downstairs and saw Phoebe.
I try to get out of the house before she sees me, but it does not always work out that way.
"ADRIANA is you", Phoebe says.
"Yes it is me. I am going into town to see what it has and see where the school is" I let her know
"Fine, fine, but you will need to bring me back some smokes and we have nothing to eat. Pick something up on your way back so I can eat," Phoebe said.
I made it into town and it is small. There are only a few businesses, a couple of restaurants, one bank it looks like, small shopping stores, and some hang out places that have arcade games and stuff like that.
I have put in 3 applications and on my fourth it is a local dinner. As I walk in, it has a warm feeling like you want to come here and you enjoy coming there. As I went up to the hostess, I asked her if the manger was there today. She looks at me with her big brown eyes and pale skin. I have to look up to her since I am so short. She has to be at least 5'4.
"Yes, I will go get Holly. She just got in. Can I let her know why you are asking for her"? She says
"I am looking to see if she is hiring". I let her know.
"Okay, hold on for me" She said as she walked away.
As I look around the dinner, I see a lot of people looking at me as if they are confused as to where I came from. Yes, I am the new girl. I get it, but why do they have to be looking so hard? Maybe they should take a picture. It would last longer. As I was growing uncomfortable waiting for the manager to come, I saw the hostess come back.
"Holly will be right. She told me to give this to you and have you fill it out while you wait for her. I have a pen for you as well", she let me know.
"Thank you. My name is Adriana. I didn't get your name", I said.
"My name is Lauren. Follow me and I will show you where you can sit and fill this out", Lauren said.
I followed her to one of the booths. They are wooded ones. The wood color is a dark black and it has seat cushions that are blue with a black strip down the middle. I slid into the booth and started to fill out the application. Once I had finished, I looked up to a older looking woman. She had to stand at 5'11, short black hair with green eyes and she had a tan with a nice one going on. She was very beautiful. I stared at her for two stares because she cleared her throat.
"Hello, I'm Holly. It's nice to meet you" she held out her hand.
"Hello, I am Adriana. It is really nice to meet you." I said back to her.
"How can I help you? I was told you were looking for a job. Luckily for you, I just had someone quit and let me take a look at your paperwork", Holly said.
As she was looking at my paperwork, I thought this was the time to talk myself into the job.
"I am a really hard worker. I need the job to be able to save up the money to be able to move out on my own. I am going to school starting on Monday. I don't mind working every day after school until it closes. I am always on time. I can multitask really well and I have been a waitress before. As you can see, I have experience". I let her know
"Yes, I see that there is a reason why you have worked at so many jobs and not stayed in one place for long."
"That has everything to do with my mom. She has a hard time keeping a job, so we have moved a lot."
"I see okay. I will give you a chance. Can you start now like I said I just had someone quit and if you can handle it, today you have the job." Holly said.
As the shift went on, I was able to show her what I could do. By the end of the day, I had to work everyday but Sunday and Tuesday. I couldn't have been happier.
I stopped by the store for my mom and got a couple of things she needed. I just didn't want to fight with her. This way was easier than picking a fight with her.
As I walk into the door, Frank and Phoebe are fighting. I go to the kitchen and put everything down and just walk to my room. They fight and yell all the time. I just want to sleep now. It has been a long day. Tomorrow I have to get everything I need for school and make sure I am ready for Monday.
