Chapter One

1170 Words
Inside the mansion entrance hall, a small girl with long brown hair and blue eyes sat in a wheelchair waiting for her grandfather to come home. She was 12 years old with the grace of a young lady. Usually, she was patient, but it has been a long time since she last saw her grandfather. “What time is it? Why is it taking so long?” She asked the maid standing next to her. “I’m sure he will be here soon, Vivian.” The maid replied. “The airport isn’t that far away! I miss him,” Vivian said. The maid placed her hand on Vivian’s shoulders and gave a gentle squeeze. “It won’t be long now,” the maid answered. Vivian sighed. She missed her grandfather. They say he has been out of the country for an entire year, maybe longer. She wasn’t quite sure when was the last time she saw him. But she knew that she missed him a lot. After all, he is her only family left. Since being forced to move into the main house straight from the hospital two months ago, she did not see or hear from him once. -6 months ago- “Reporting live. As you can see. The crash on the mountain road is quite horrific. It looks like two cars crashed into each other around the bend. Emergency services have arrived to assess the situation. No news at the moment about the people involved...” The helicopter flew over the crash scene with the news camera and reporter onboard. The reporter pressed into the headpiece in her left ear and nods. “I hear now; the red car belongs to the Sky family.” “Two adults and a young child have been removed from the wreckage.” “The man in the silver car is unconscious.” -after the crash- The little girl woke up and stared up at the white ceiling. Where am I? What is all this? Where are mum and dad? She started to panic. She was connected to many wires and a machine beeping in the corner. She started struggling, causing the machine in the corner to beep rapidly as the needle pulled out of her hand. Two nurses quickly ran into the room. The first nurse quickly came to the girl in the room to calm her down, while the other started pressing the buttons on the machine and calling in the doctor. “It’s alright, Miss Vivian. You are okay, “ said the nurse “Where is mummy? Where am I? Who are you?” Cried Vivian while pulling the wires and needles from her body. “My name is Anne. I’m a nurse at Sky Private Hospital,” answered the nurse. “Please try to remain calm. I can help you.” Vivian kept struggling. “I want mummy. I want mummy. Please, I want mummy!” She cried. Anne looked up at the other nurse. The other nodded and rushed out. Vivian continued to cry and franticly tried to get out of the hospital bed. Anne kept her hand firm on Vivian’s shoulders “it’s alright. Help is on its way.” The nurse returned to the room with medical trolly within a few minutes. Once she entered the room, she started drawing up a needle from a vial. Vivian saw the needle and started to cry more and moving more violently. “Please no, I don’t want it,” she pleaded, “please get my mummy.” Anne held Vivian down and nodded to the other nurse. The nurse came up to Vivian and held her left arm firmly as Anne held on to Vivian close to her chest. Vivian struggled a bit more than felt a sharp pain in her left shoulder, and a warming sensation spread where the needle was. Anne said in a calming voice, “it’s alright, Miss. It will be alright.” Vivian looked up into Anne’s eye. Her eyes became heavy, and she could no longer struggle. It will be alright -one month after crash- The next time Vivian woke up, she noticed the sun was setting, or perhaps it was rising. She wasn’t sure. Vivian slowly started to prop herself up with her arms. Her head hurt. No, not just her head, but her whole body still felt heavy, like it was hit by a truck. She didn’t notice she couldn’t feel her legs. She noticed that she connected fewer wires this time and no monitor beeping in the corner. Was she in the same room? Knock, knock The sound of the knocks made Vivian look up to the door. The nurse she recognised came in with a tray of food. “You are the lady from before?” questioned Vivian in a quiet voice “Yes, I am,” replied smiling the nurse. “I am Anne; I work here as a nurse. I’ve been assigned to look after you from now on.” “Why?” asked a confused Vivian. Anne set the tray of food down on the table by the bed. As she carefully opened the lids of food and prepared to feed the young lady. “Young Miss, you were in a car accident….” Anne started Vivian looked up with a confused face. “Car accident?” “Yes, that’s right. You were with the Master and Lady driving to the beach house..” Anne continued Yes, the beach house, remembered Vivian. We went to the beach house for summer vacation. But Dad suddenly got a call from the company to return home. Typically, Dad would work at the beach house on his computer during the summer holiday for at least a couple of weeks before leaving mum and me to enjoy the rest of summer. But this time, whoever called cut our holiday short, and the whole family was ordered to go home immediately. “…the other car was speeding around the corner….” According to the reports, Vivian heard Anne’s voice bringing her back to reality, “too fast. The other driver died at the scene.” “Where are my parents?” suddenly asked Vivian. Anne stopped and looked at the poor girl for a second. She took a deep breath before answering. “The Master and Lady…” Vivian had a sick feeling in her stomach. “I’m sorry little Miss,” Anne said, looking at the little girl in front of her. Vivian knew what she was going to say next. She burst into tears as Anne quickly came over to hold her. “They couldn’t save them. It was too late,” Anne finished and continued to hold Vivian in her arms.
