Alec stared out the window. Being alone wasn’t helping him to let go of his thoughts, but he didn’t want anyone else to have to deal with him right then. Then a hand took his. “Once this is all over you’re never going to have to see her again.”
“I know.” He glanced at Kaisa. “When I look at her it’s just a reminder I have no idea who she really is. I loved her, and part of me still loves her, but I can’t see her as Mom anymore. The mom I knew wasn’t so selfish.” He raked his free hand through his hair. “She would have done anything for us. Or at least I thought she would.”
