They entered safer space sooner than Alec expected. Nowhere was truly safe for him, but the hunters were always much more careful when they reached what they thought of as their own space and the home of the Bounty Hunter Network. Jennell preferred it if her hunters didn’t accidentally kill the wrong person, especially as she was always needing new trainees to take the places of those who did die. If someone made a mistake close to base, then there was a chance that no one would want to become a hunter in the future. Although it seemed unlikely everyone stuck to her rules.
