Blurb

She thought she had escaped him. Once, Elena gave her heart — and her freedom — to Adrian, a man whose love was as intoxicating as it was brutal. Out of blind devotion, she sealed their bond with a blood oath, a vow that tied her to him forever. But when the pain became unbearable, she broke free, rebuilt her life, and found peace in the arms of Daniel — the kind of man she never believed existed.

Just when Elena is ready to start a new future, Adrian returns, darker and more dangerous than ever. He is determined to claim what he believes is his, whispering the chilling promise: “If I can’t have you, no one will.”

Now Elena must fight for her safety, her love, and her freedom. But breaking free from a man who thinks obsession is love will demand more than courage — it will demand everything she has left

The calm
Auto Saved Word Count 915 37/70 The morning sun spilled gently through the curtains, washing the bedroom in pale gold. Elena pressed her palm against the cool windowpane, her eyes tracing the quiet suburban street below. Children in school uniforms rushed to catch the bus, their laughter carrying faintly in the air. A neighbor watered her garden, humming softly to herself. The world outside looked so ordinary, so safe, that for a fleeting moment Elena almost believed it was true. Almost. Behind her, the familiar clink of dishes and the deep hum of Daniel’s voice floated from the kitchen. “Coffee or tea, love?” His voice always held warmth — steady, grounding, like the low rumble of the earth beneath her feet. She didn’t need to look to know he was standing by the counter in his rolled-up sleeves, his tie loose, the way he always prepared for work while still making sure she felt seen, cared for. Daniel was many things, but above all, he was safe. “Tea,” she called back, forcing brightness into her tone. The reflection in the glass caught her eye before she could turn away. She lingered, studying her own face as if it belonged to someone else. Her features had softened over the years, but her eyes gave her away — shadows rested beneath them, marks of too many nights waking up gasping in the dark. The scars weren’t always visible. Sometimes they were in her mind, echoing like whispers that refused to die. She told herself it was over. That part of her life, that man, that darkness — all gone. She had clawed her way out of it, piece by broken piece, and built something new with Daniel. He didn’t ask for perfection. He didn’t demand obedience. He didn’t hurt her to prove his love. And yet… Elena’s hand curled against the glass as the memory rose unbidden: a bruising grip around her wrist, lips brushing her ear, a voice low and commanding — “Say it. Say you’re mine, Elena. Forever.” Her chest tightened. The oath. Her eyes fell to the faint white line on the inside of her palm, barely visible now but still there. A scar left from the night she pressed her blood against his, swearing the words that bound her to him. She’d been young, desperate, foolish enough to believe pain was proof of passion. That devotion meant sacrifice. That love meant surrender. Her body shivered, even as sunlight kissed her skin. “Tea’s ready.” Daniel’s voice broke through the fog, warm and steady. Elena turned, forcing her lips into a smile as he entered the room. His dark hair was slightly damp from the shower, his sleeves rolled back in that effortlessly casual way, his tie hanging loose around his neck. He carried a mug in each hand, balancing them with care. He set one on the nightstand and offered the other to her. “You look like you’re a million miles away.” “Just…thinking.” His eyes, a soft hazel that never judged her, searched her face. He leaned down and kissed her forehead, the kind of gentle kiss that always made her ache in ways she didn’t know how to name. Not the ache of fear or longing, but of gratitude — for peace, for safety, for the simple act of being treated as though she mattered. She wrapped her hands around the warm mug, clinging to it like an anchor. “Thanks.” Daniel didn’t press. He never did. Instead, he sat on the edge of the bed, sipping his coffee in silence, letting her take the time she needed. That was one of the many reasons she loved him. Daniel gave her room to breathe. For a brief moment, Elena let herself imagine their future: the wedding just a few months away, the vows they would speak, the life they would build. Maybe even children one day. A home filled with laughter, not shouts. With warmth, not fire and smoke. Her chest eased at the thought, her lips softening into a real smile. But as she lifted the mug to take her first sip, something caught her eye. At the edge of the driveway, just visible from the window, lay a small white envelope. It hadn’t been there earlier when she’d pulled the curtains open. Perfectly placed, face up, with no markings. Her heart stuttered. “Elena?” Daniel’s voice was casual, unaware, as he reached for his shoes. “Don’t forget we’re meeting my sister tonight for dinner. She’s really excited to see you again.” She barely heard him. Her hand trembled against the mug, the tea sloshing dangerously close to the rim. Every nerve in her body seemed to recognize the envelope before her mind could. She stared, unable to look away, a chill crawling down her spine despite the sunlight filling the room. “Elena?” Daniel stood now, concern flickering across his features as he followed her gaze. “What is it?” She forced a smile, shaking her head too quickly. “Nothing. Just…nothing.” But her pulse was racing, her throat tight. She knew what that envelope meant. She hadn’t opened it yet, hadn’t even touched it, but she knew. Because once, years ago, a man with storm-dark eyes and a voice that bled both love and violence had promised her: “You can try to run. You can try to forget. But you’re mine, Elena. Forever.” And forever, she had sworn, in blood. --- 💀
