Chapter 3

Lina’s point of view Leaving him in that forest had been a narrow escape. For a moment, I really thought he would chase after me and kill me, but fortunately for me, he didn't. I was so happy when I got back to the pack and realized that he did not pursue me. Now, I can see the reason why he didn't. It was simply because he could easily get me when he wanted to. I mean, why bother about someone that you can get without stressing yourself a bit? He smirked at me, and as I looked directly at him now without being so scared, unlike yesterday, I could see his handsome features. He was extraordinarily handsome and exuded an aura of power and authority. Even Alpha Kyle could feel it and thus was subtle while talking to Lycan Dylan. Even his name sent chills down my spine. I didn't want to be connected to him in any way. Yesterday's meeting was not pleasant, and knowing so many rumors about him, it felt like it was best that we should keep it between ourselves. Unfortunately, that was not what he had in mind. Or could it be a coincidence that the person he chose to be his escort throughout his stay in the pack was me? Or was he here to kill me? If he was, he would not go through all these procedures. “Lina, what are you doing? Won't you show your respect to Lycan Dylan?” Alpha Dylan scolded. I blinked, realizing that I had been staring at him for quite some time. He smiled, “No, it's okay. I like the stare,” he said. My brow furrowed. Is he okay? I had been noticing that he said words that did not make sense. I removed all thoughts from my mind. It didn't matter if it was a coincidence or not. If he came to kill me or not, what mattered was that I did not have anything to do with him. If possible, I did not want to ever see him again. He was bad luck, and I did not need anyone to tell me. My gaze went to Alpha Kyle. I remembered everything that he did to me yesterday. I clenched my fist and bit my lips. It was obvious that I looked like an easy and weak person that he could easily destroy and use again. Lycan Dylan stood up and walked towards me. “Lina, you have such a nice name,” he winked. I frowned. Seriously, what is wrong with this guy? “I am sincerely sorry, but I have been assigned to a task. You can get another person for his escort,” I said to Alpha Kyle. “Well…” Alpha Kyle tried speaking but was interrupted by the Lycan. “I do not want anyone else, just you. If it isn't you, then it's no one,” he said, walking closer to me. I ignored him and continued talking to Alpha Kyle. I know you must be thinking that I want to die, but the truth is I just don't care. I didn't care if I died or lived. I had no reason to live, but many reasons to die. “If you excuse me, I would like to continue my previous duties,” I said to Alpha Kyle. “Hey!” Kyle shouted, startling me. “As your Alpha, I command you to be his escort,” Alpha Kyle said, using his Alpha voice. I wondered if he knew that his alpha voice did not work on me. But thinking of other people that might have to be subjected to be his escort, I agreed and walked out. I noticed that the Lycan stared at me till I left. I went to my best friend, Betty, who was also an Omega like me. She had not been able to attend my supposed wedding because she was very sick, but now she was looking better. She was lying on the bed in the healer's quarter. I told her everything that had transpired between yesterday and today. She was very surprised, and she showed how angry she was. “Do you realize that anytime Lula does you harm and you are angry, Barbara would always plead for her, and you will forgive her without thinking twice?” she frowned. She had always been so protective of me, the only person that was on my side despite everything. I would have sworn that she would have gone against her Alpha, just for me. That was how much she was willing to go for me. “Barbara has been so kind to me. It would not be nice if I didn't listen to her,” I said. Betty scoffed and sat up. “What they did to you is unforgivable. You should not let them get away with it.” I also thought of it, but each time that I thought about it, I remembered the goodness of Barbara in my life. I forced a smile and quickly diverted from the topic. I started talking about how much I did not like Lycan and did not want to be near him. As usual, I was able to express my anger for everyone with Betty because she was always on my side. Before I could finish spending time with Betty, I was asked to leave because the Lycan needed his escort. I had to leave Betty's side and go to the Lycan. I saw him from afar. He was alone, standing at the place where the river flows by. He held an expressionless face, yet ladies stood from afar admiring his features. They acted smitten by him. “I wish I was her,” I could hear them mumble. I ignored them and kept walking. I stopped when I heard, ‘It seems like the disgrace she faced was not enough; she still goes for men that are above her.’ I glared at the ladies, “Who said that?” I asked, clenching my fist. I always did this but ended up being beaten by them, though this time it was because of the Lycan whose attention was on us. They all left hurriedly. I held my anger and went to him. I bowed in respect. “You called for me.” “I keep wondering why you are acting that way towards me,” he said and paused. “That man I killed was a spy that was sent by my enemies. He…” I raised my head, confused. “What are you doing?” I asked. “I have come to explain myself. Maybe it is the reason you don't want to be around me.” “E… Explain?” I asked to be sure if I heard him well, and he nodded. I gasped. Why does this man keep throwing me off guard with his sudden act? Explain to me? The great Lycan Dylan? Who never needs to give anyone an explanation? Why me? What for? He made me have a lot of unanswered questions in my head every time I met with him. What manner of man is he?
