CHAPTER ONE : CASE IN HER HANDS
He concentrated on the climate discreetly as he sat in his vehicle. He bent the front mirror to look closely at himself. He covered his whole face with his mask after he wore a wig. He embedded his gun into the pocket of his jacket and got out of the vehicle. He unwrapped a bubble gum and tossed it into his mouth. He has a propensity for chewing gum when he's on operation. It makes it more enjoyable. He examined the entire structure with his eyes. He laughed at seeing the barb wires introduced around the fence. "What a joke." That doesn't prevent him from going in. In a swift, he ascended the fence with skill and landed subtly in the balcony. That was simple. He ascended delicately and examined the region for any security. His boss was correct, nobody is available. He took a try at opening the entryway with his gloved hands but it was locked. He took out a pin from his pocket and like in the films, he unlocked out the entryway with it. He was welcomed by a very much outfitted room when he entered. "Red, what's happening?" His boss asked through the puds in his ear. "Not bad, so far." He answered and detached. There were two entryways on the left and one on the right. Groaning sounds were coming from the right so he knew promptly his objective is in there. He burst in and the couple withdrew unexpectedly from their love making session. Red cringed at the sight. "Who are you!" The bare man requested frightfully. "The one who will put a stop to your misery.." Red drew out his pistol and aimed it toward them. The lady winced in fear at seeing the weapon in Red's grasp. Red laughed. "Beautiful, isn't it?" He spun the firearm in his grasp . "I got it as a birthday present." "Pl...please. What..what do you need? I'll give you anything. I have cash! Bunches of cash, what amount do you need? 1,000,000 dollars? A...a billion dollars?" The man offered, thinking he could live in return with that. Red laughed. He observed the man entertaining. He c****d his gun and discharged two shots into the man's head. His wife's horrifying scream followed. She was unable to shout for long as Red provided her with own portion of shots through the head. "Gee, feels great everytime." Red said as he watched the two people drain. He took out a sticker from his pocket and utilized a blade to stick it to the wall. "Beautiful." He left the room and bounced off the balcony. "Red?" His boss said and he smiled. "I'm coming home. BTW, I'm hungry. Make something decent for me." *** "Yeah, yeah. Bye dad!" Yvonne hanged up and groaned. "Why on earth did you tell him?" She fired at Brendan, who was sitting adjacent to her on the emergency clinic bed. "I had no other choice! You know how he can be. He constrained words out of my mouth." "You should have held your ground at least." "As if it's that's simple. To be fair, this is actually your fault. This wouldn't have happened if you hadn't conflicted with Chief's orders and taken part in a shootout with those jerks. I mean, look at your leg!" Yvonne peered down at her bandaged leg and murmured. "Look on the bright side. We got them, didn't we?" "Whatever." "Senior!" A youngster shouted as he came into the ward. "Goodness my...look at the state you're in!" "I'm fine, Williams." "No, you're not." He rushed over and sat alongside her. He put his palms on the sides of her face and panted. "Gosh! You look so pale. Have you eaten? You've lost weight, Senior." "I'm fine, truly." "No, you're not. Do you have any idea about how stressed I was? I thought you were shot in some place critical ! I nearly kicked the bucket!" "He actually fainted." Brendan said and Yvonne laughed. Since the time Williams joined the violence investigation unit, he has consistently seen Yvonne as his sister. He generally becomes stressed, worrying that she exhausts, doesn't eat or rest. He's always in her throat. 'Do you really want anything? Are you hungry? Do you need me to stakeout alone while you go rest? Should I make you food?' Those inquiries are continually in his lips. "You did?" "Obviously, I did. I'm simply happy you're OK." "Thank you, Williams." Brendan picked up the remote and increased the volume of the TV. "AGAIN, THE CHICAGO ASSASSIN STRIKES. ASSEMBLYMAN CHA AND HIS WIFE WERE MURDERED OVERNIGHT BY THE ASSASSIN WHO GOES BY THE NAME, "RED". HIS SIGNATURE STICKER WAS FOUND PINNED ON THE WALL WITH A KNIFE. LIKE IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN, NO FINGER PRINTS OR CLUES WERE LEFT AT THE CRIME SCENE. THE CHICAGO POLICE ARE ONCE AGAIN PUT IN DISTRESS AND... "That motherfucker!" Yvonne cussed irritatingly. "It's been five months that guy has been having his reign of terror." Brendan said as he turned off the TV. "What exactly is the Chicago police power doing?" Yvonne requested in disturbance. "They're giving a valiant effort, senior. You heard what they said. He never leaves a clue. He just leaves that stupid sticker which has his psychopathic name composed on it. They are literally risking their lives, you know." Williams said and Yvonne rolled her eyes. "They are cops. They must risk their lives." Yvonne contended further. "How I wish I can take up this case." "Fortunately, you can't, because you're not relegated in Chicago. Just continue to live and breath in the pleasant air of New York City while you still can." Brendan said as he made Yvonne lie down. "Lieutenant Brendan is correct. Taking up that case would just place anyone's life at serious risk." Williams said as he drew the cover over Yvonne's body. "Just rest, OK? We'll come visit you later." "When you're coming, make me those pizza rolls you're good at making." Yvonne told Williams and he nodded. "Aye aye, captain." |•CHICAGO•| |•SEVEN P.M•| Redmond was taking out a cake from the refrigerator when a ginger haired young lady came into the kitchen. She headed toward Redmond and gave him a back embrace. Redmond knew immediately that it was her. "Heard some uplifting news, Venessa?" Redmond asked as he shut the refrigerator's door. "I've missed you." Venessa said as she embraced him more tightly. Redmond put the cake on the kitchen counter and turned her to face him. He wrapped his arms around her waist and said, "I was away for just seven days." "Yeah, and I nearly died. You left me in this huge house, alone." "You were in good company. You had Danny, Joaquin, Killian, Fred... "Yeah but they aren't you." She whined and Redmond chuckled. "Of course, nobody is like me. I'm a unique man." "My unique man." Venessa stood on her unsteady toes and put a kiss Red's lips. Redmond pulled her closer and reciprocated. They were lost at the moment so they couldn't hear somebody make a sound behind them. "Can't you both get a room? For Christ's sake!" The two people broke thier kiss to scowl at the interloper. "Try not to taint this sacred place." "It's nobody's fault you're single, Fred." Venessa said as she let go of Redmond. Fred tossed a banana at her and pouted, "I hate you." "Where are the others?" Redmond inquired. "Danny is with boss on a mission. Killian, for reasons unknown, hasn't appeared the entire day and Joaquin is upstairs in his room." "Dealing with his tech stuff ?" Venessa asked and Fred nodded. Every one of them, including Redmond, all work for thier boss, Desmond Hemsworth, the head of one of the infamous mafia cartels in Chicago. In every other person's eyes, he's simply Desmond Hemsworth, the famous billionaire in the city but in the underworld, he's Desmond Hemsworth, the ruler of Rawanj Cartel. Not every one of them are professional killers. Redmond and Killian are assassins. Joaquin is the tech guy. There's no code he can't break. No system he can't hack into. Venessa is Desmond's daughter. Fred is the very gifted driver. Those six are the nearest to Desmond. Particularly Redmond. It might be said Desmond entrusts Redmond with everything, including his life. "Excuse me." Venessa said as she left the kitchen to make a phonecall. Fred went to Red with a smile and said. "You're fortunate." "Fortunate?" "Yeah. Who won't kill to have Venessa as a girlfriend?" "She's not my girlfriend." Redmond's articulation made Fred furrow his brows. "So what precisely would she say she is to you?" "I don't have a clue." Red answered with a shrug. "I simply appreciate her company." "Also by company you mean..." A provoking prodding grin crawled on Fred's face and Redmond chuckled. "Yeah, that as well. I love that "company" too but in all, she's a good friend." "Gee, she has no idea she's simply a friend to you? I mean...she likes you. You know that, right?" "She knows better, Fred. She ain't a child. I don't do stuff like that." Redmond took a glimpse at that wall clock. "It's 7.30p.m. I have to go." "Another mission?" "An individual one, actually." "Oh, is it about... "Yeah, it is. In any case, I must go. I'll probably be back in two days max." "Cool. Does boss know?" "He doesn't need to know all that I do. He ain't my father." "Try not to allow him to hear that." "Whatever. See ya." He tapped Fred's shoulder and left. He opened his phone and gazed at the location once again. "Santiago, I have you this time." |•ONE WEEK LATER•| "You shouldn't stroll around, Yvonne. You should rest more. What are you doing here anyway?" "What else? To work, obviously." Yvonne said as she sat at her desk. "Any new cases up until this point?" "Yvonne, come on." "Brendan, I'm fine. Seriously. Just say nothing to my father." "Fine. Here, these are the case records concerning Lyman District's bicycle thief." "What am I? A new kid on the block? A bicycle burglary case?" "This case has been on for around fourteen days now. Boss needs you to investigate this, on the grounds that you're certain to envelop it with two days." Yvonne looked at the case records in Brendan's grasp before gathering them hesitantly. A bicycle hoodlum is a criminal worth to be caught, however this isn't the case she wishes to take on. The assassin's case for instance. She would be excited to be in charge of it. Yvonne went through the documents for around twenty minutes before she called for Brendan. "Brendan, accompany me." "Kay kay." The two of them left the station for Lyman District. Yvonne stopped before a scrap metal shop. This befuddled Brendan so he inquired. "What are we doing here?" "There are just three reasons a criminal would take bicycles, Brendan." Yvonne said as she put on her ID card. "One : he's simply a poop chute who has nothing to with his life. Two : he's taking them to sell on the web and Three : for spare parts or to sell it to a scrap matal collector. There's a high possibility of it being number three. So here we are." "See what I mean? I knew you'd make quick work of this before today closes." "No doubt. let's go." The two of them ventured down from the vehicle and strolled into the shop. "Good day, sir." Yvonne greeted the man organizing parts and the man answered happily. "We're from Green District's Police Force." Brendan said as the two of them showed thier IDs. "We're here to pose a few inquiries." Yvonne added. "Sure. I hope there are no issues?" "Not in the slightest degree. Did you maybe purchase bike parts recently?" Brendan inquired. "Yeah. Did you?" "Bike parts? Actually no, not in any manner." "Are you sure, sir?" "Most certain." Yvonne hummed, "Are there some other scrap metal gatherers around here?" "Indeed, one of my companions, Ryan Kim. His shop is only three kilometers from here." "Please, the location." Yvonne said as she drew out a little note pad and pen from the pocket of her jacket. "It's No 8, Block five. Simply go straight down, no turns and you'll get there." "Much thanks to you, sir. We should go, Brendan." *** The two of them followed the man's direction and they got to thier objective in a matter of moments. "This should be it." They knocked the gate a few times yet nobody replied. They continued to call out to him yet nobody came out. "I can't believe I will be on stakeout because of this man." Brendan said in disappointment and Yvonne laughed. They sat tight in thier vehicle for quite a while. Evening came, nobody actually came out or went in. They chose to knock again but, however, it brought about exactly the same result - nothing. They chose to leave thier vehicle some distances away from Mr. Kim's home. They waited until around eight in the night when a vehicle at last pulled up before Mr. Kim's gate. Brendan was about to get out of the vehicle when Yvonne pulled him back. "Hang on." Yvonne murmured. They watched Mr. Kim from a far distance as he got out of his vehicle. Mr Kim looked left and right, as if he needed to be certain nobody is watching him. "For what reason did he just do that?" Brendan pondered in doubt. Mr Kim went to the trunk of his vehicle and brought out three bikes. The three bicycles that just got detailed missing in the morning. "We got him." Yvonne said as he got out of the vehicle. "Mr Ryan, you're under arrest for bike theft." Yvonne said as she moved toward him with her ID extended. He went to run however Brendan was already behind him. He got bound by Brendan. "Release me!" He yelled and Yvonne laughed. "You're crazy, you know that?" *** "Senior, Chief's requesting for you. You too, Lieutenant." Williams said as Yvonne and Brendan came into the office. The two of them got to Chief's office and knocked. "Come in." The two of them went in. "Oh, it's you folks." The two of them saluted. "I knew you two would make quick work of this before the day closes." "All thanks to Yvonne." Brendan said and Yvonne grinned. "I simply needed to compliment you both, nothing else. You both can return home and rest. You earned it." "Thank you, sir." They made to leave but Chief halted them as he remembered something. " Yvonne, you're being moved to Chicago." That assertion started something in Yvonne. She promptly perked up. "Chicago?" Brendan inquired. "Yeah. You're taking up the assassin's case." At long last! The news she's hoping to receive. Finally! All these were going on in Yvonne's mind and her excitement couldn't be hidden from her face but for Brendan, it was the direct inverse. Stress took over him. "The assassin? Sir, this is a risky case...she could be... "I'll make sure I catch him, Chief!" Yvonne saluted with excitement, which satisfied Chief Bennett. "Yvonne!" Brendan snapped. "There is no way you're happy about this." "I'll ensure I get him Chief, believe me." "I do." At last, the fate of that psycho is in her hand. Her day just got ten times better.
