Monday, the first day of the working week and the beginning of backbreaking stress and the wahala of the Bussiness world again. Almost every Monday morning were identical that is in normal circumstances, but this particular one was different. I was still furious and heartbroken from Amaka standing me up two days ago. The only thing in my mind that morning was to give her a piece of it as soon as I reached the office. I had decided I was not going to hold anything back.
On a normal day it would have taken me about thirty minutes to complete my morning routine but today it took fifteen. I was not sad and infuriated at the same time. Nothing I did that morning was right as I had either done it half way or done it messily like a half wit. As I polished my shoes I kept brooding and cursing until I finally snapped. I flung the brush across the room and slipped the half polished shoes on anyways.
In a flash I was out of the house and stormed down to the office like an angry lion. I looked like s**t, my hair was rough, my teeth were barely cleaned, my shoes were of course half polished and I had just one sock on. I didn't even bother to have breakfast as my emotions had completely shielded my reasoning.
As I made my way down the street I had gradually begun to calm down and my thoughts been to make sense. I could not help but wonder why she called that she was coming one in the end to stand me up. Something had definitely gone wrong. I should have called to ask. At that moment anger had given way and concern and fear had settled in.
I hurried up my pace and begun to silently utter words of prayer till I reached the office building. I quickly signed in and made up the stairs. Lo and behold Amaka had not checked in. My face immediately went pale and a cold shiver ran down my spine. I began to fear that my suspicions were true but a part of my mind pointed out the possibility she might have had a rough trip and was running late. So I put my mind at ease and in attempt to avoid unnecessary suspicion from the other workers I gained my composure and quickly placed my things on my desk and settled down.
Forty five minutes had passed since I had checked in and Amaka had still not resumed. I picked up my phone and began to call her cell but it wasn't going through. By this time it had already become clear that something had gone wrong. Ten minutes later I noticed two men outside which I had never seen before. They were engaged in a conversation with Bode another colleague of mine and after a short while they stopped talking and began to make their way towards the office. My heart beat almost tripled in lace and it's beating had almost become audible. My head became numb, and my shirt had steadily become drenched in sweat. By the time they reached the door I could feel my soul trying to escape my body in an attempt to run away from the possible impending trouble. After a brief introduction and a few pleasantries the fact was established that they were policemen and that Amaka had gone missing. It was then it became clear to me that she had gone missing enroute to my house, making me the prime suspect.
