The accident
Chapter One The sound from the screaming tyres and the blur face of a lady reaching out was all she could remember before darkness took over. As she opened her eyes, it felt like her head was been pounded, she tired getting up but couldn’t; she scanned the room with her eyes “Where am I?” she asked no one in particular. Hearing her speak, Marcus stood up and moved closer to her, he found himself smiling. Her voice was just like he imagined, angelic. “Hey, don’t move. You’re in the hospital” he answered her question. “How long have I been here?” Her question made Marcus realize how long she has actually been in the hospital, he knew it was selfish but starring at her sleeping peacefully all the time has been his stress reliever. “I believe you’re not mute sir” her words brought him back to reality “Well, you’ve been here for about three weeks” he could see the shock written on her face, the worry lines on her forehead “And my family? Or are you my family?” Marcus couldn’t believe his eyes and ears, she doesn’t recall who she is “I’m sorry but we didn’t find any ID on you, so we were hoping you’d tell us when you wake” Just then the door opened. After the examination and a few tests, the doctor called Marcus into his office “she has amnesia” Marcus took a deep breath and could barely hear what the doctor was saying from then on “Hold on doctor” he cut in “Are you saying there’s no specific time for her to get her memories back?” Marcus asked. “Well, that’s the summary” “Thank you” Marcus stood up from his seat “And when will she be free to go home?” he asked “let’s say in two days. Aside the loss of memory, she’s fine” Marcus got back to the room and found her trying to stand, rushing over to help her “Hey, I don’t think you’re strong enough for that” “And I guess am not strong enough to use the loo?” she asked leaning on him “The loo?!” he asked as they took little steps “Yes the loo, were one goes to piss. You do know what the loo is right?” “Are you British?” Marcus found himself asking, but why was he asking? Maybe she grew up there, maybe she has a British nanny but she doesn’t look rich. Suddenly why does he have memories of his nanny? “How should I know? I can’t even recall my own name” by now they were at the entrance of the restroom “I’ll wait for you outside”. Marcus reached into his pocket and brought out the necklace and found himself smiling. “Mister, am done” he looked up and found himself gazing at her lips “Em… mister. If you can just help me back to bed I’ll be super grateful” Marcus snapped out of merry land “Oh sure. Sorry about that”. “What’s your name?” she asked as Marcus used the blanket to cover her up “I’m Marcus j…” he paused for a minute “I’m Marcus” he brought the necklace from his pocket again “Well, this was found. Actually it was on your neck when you were brought in, I guess that’s your name” he handed it to her “Eloise” she read it out, holding the necklace like it meant the world to her “Eloise it is then. My name is Eloise good to meet you Marcus” Marcus stood still starring at the prettiest smile he had ever seen in his life. “My pleasure” he shook her hand and gave it a kiss. “What actually happened? How did I end up here? Why are you here? Who actually are you? Marcus smirked at her questions. ************ “Oh well, thank God I didn’t break any bones. And thank you for not leaving me to die?” Marcus looked at her in disbelief “You’re not angry at me?” Eloise smiled, reached out for his hand; holding it she said “I have no reason to be angry, the universe must have a valid reason for letting your car hit me that night. So thank you” “You’re welcome” was all Marcus could say “Em….. When am I going to be discharged and am I going to be living with you? Since I don’t remember anything about myself, I cannot go home”. Marcus stood up “Well, you’ll be discharged very soon and as for where you’ll live, it will be arranged. I need to go home, it’s late plus I have work tomorrow” getting hold of his tablet and phone, he headed towards the door “I’ll see you tomorrow. Good night” “That was cold” Eloise spoke out loud, laying back on the bed, she wondered if she did or said something wrong. Pondering on the events of the day she drifted off to sleep. Lowering the car window, Marcus closed his eyes allowing the breeze to caress his face. Taking a deep breath, he wondered why he left in a hurry, she clearly wanted to chat but why didn’t he stay back? Was he scared that she would see right through him? He smirked as he recalled her pretty smile. Should he go ahead and have her investigated? Her family might be looking for her, what if she’s from the enemy’s camp? So many questions yet no answers. “The universe” he smirked looking at the stars.
