Chapter 4

The sound of the alarm clock woke me out of my sleep,shielding my eyes from the light that was coming through the window. I made my way to the bathroom where I splashed some water on my face.

I was shocked when i took in my appearance in the mirror, i was still in my dress but more shocked when I realised i was actually in my room, and not remembering getting here on my own.

I face palmed myself as I realized maybe Noah or his driver had brought me in, as I vividly remembered falling asleep due to the slow music the driver had been playing.

After few minutes of feeling embarrassed, I decided to take my bath and screamed out loud when I realized that I was late for work.

After rushing, and cursing, and shouting,and dropping, and throwing things, I was finally ready and out of the house.

I waved for the taxi approaching and quickly buttoned up my jacket cause of the cold.

When the taxi stopped in front of me, I hurriedly got into it, and almost immediately my cell phone ranged.

“Hello”

“Oh sweet lord scarr, where the hell are you! the board meeting is about to start!” Arya said half screaming into the phone, causing me to remove the phone from my ear.

“ I am on my way Arya, I over slept. Please stall them a little I am almost there'

“Fine!you've got five minutes.”

“Thanks Arya, you are a darling.”

“Whatever.”

Few minutes later we arrived at the Knight cooperation building.

I quickly got down from the car after paying the taxi driver. Hurriedly signed in and apologized for not going through the security protocol.

Running to my office, I quickly collected the files l needed and left for the board room which was on the executive floor.

When the elevator signalled that i had reached my destination, I ran to the board room saying a silent thank you to the heaven that I wore flats today.

"Good morning ladies and gentleman, my apologies for coming late." I announced.

"Scarlet see me in my office right now." Noah said leaving the board room, causing everyone to stare at him and a startled me.

I forced a fake smile on my face and excused myself as I apologized in the process.

When I opened the door to his office, i came in contact with a furious Noah.

"Good morning sir." I said, not knowing what to expect next.

"What's good about the morning scarlet?" Noah said angrily.

The sight of my scared form might have caused some certain emotions to flood into him. I don’t know why though.

Noah Knight is full of wonders that sometimes he leaves me confused.

“And you coming in late to the office? What does that even mean? how could you be my wife to be and show such unserious attitude.” He said, his eyes locked on mine as he scolds me.

"I am so sorry for coming late I never meant to come in late today." I said, sincerely.

"Scarlet you are supposed to be a role model to others! You are my wife!"

"I am so sorry sir." I added as my voice cracks, and my eyes begin to well up with tears.

I hate being yelled at.

"Why do you keep calling me sir?” He said, running frustrated fingers across his face.

“You are my wife Scarlet, I don't expect you to call me sir and neither do I expect you to come in late. I would not tolerate such nonsense from you."

"Okay please stop yelling.” I almost cried out.

"Leave my office." He commanded.

I half ran out of his office and went back to the board room for my presentation. I tried my possible best to put myself together and not make a scene in front of everyone.

Or perhaps I was just terrified I was going to piss Noah again.

Through out the meeting, his eyes never left mine, noticing every single movement of mine, Studying my lips so intently, I almost forgot how to breathe again.

Everyone noticed he was staring at me.

"This meeting is adjourned till after my wedding." Noah said startling and surprising everyone in the room.

Me included.

"Yes I am getting married and my wife to be is Scarlet Valeria Griffin. Our wedding would be holding next week and everyone is invited." with that said he left the room.

I hurriedly packed my things and left the room avoiding any questions from the board members. Through out the day everyone kept staring at me, whispering or with angry faces, while some shook their head in disappointment.

Brian on the other hand didn't even bother to talk to me when he saw me, I realized I hadn't said anything to him since yesterday, so I decided to talk to him.

"Hi can I come in?" I said nervously at the door of his office.

"Yes you can." Brian replied giving me the coldest look i had ever seen on him.

He really was angry at me, I could tell. I took the seat opposite his, and started playing with my fingers not knowing where to start from.

I had never seen my best friend this cold towards me as he went back to whatever he was doing ignoring me.

"Brian I know you've heard about what's going on, and am sure you are angry that I was engaged to Mr Knight all this while and not tell you.. The truth is I didn't know how to-"

" please scarr. Just stop, stop lying right now, of course I know you were never engaged to him, the heck I've been your friend all your life way before we met Arya and I know you, my anger with you is that you didn't even bothered to tell me what's happening and right now you have the courage to lie to my face!" Brian said getting angrier with every word he spoke that at the end he was already shouting at me.

"I am sorry Brian it just happened.. he just threw it at my face giving me no choice, I didn't even know what to do, everything is just happening so fast." I said as I broke down in tears.

I hated that my friends were angry at me. Brian had never raised his voice at me and today he did, and to top it all I came here just to lie to him in the beginning and I felt filthy for that. So all the tears came running down my face.

"C'mon scarr, you don't need to cry you know I can't stand seeing you cry, I am sorry I raised my voice OK, I never meant to I was just so upset with you that you have a problem and you didn't tell me, what are friends for?" He said pulling me to him.

"I am so happy I have you in my life Brian, to think I thought of lying to you, I feel so horrible" I said, snuggling more into him.

"Enough of the drama now tell me what is really going on." Brian said as he looked down to me smiling.

And I narrated everything to him leaving no details out including the threat from Noah’s lover.
