CHAPTER 3

Board room 8:00 am

Cold AC, long table, 6 board members and their laptops opened. Damian Vance at the head with black coffee by his side, arms crossed, Corey at the front holding her palmtop wearing a cropped button front tweed jacket and pointed toe kitten heels, 3 inches. Damian glances at his watch

" Ms Corey you have ten minutes"

Corey clears her throat

" Good morning, my fellow board members here are the 30 days plan I made concerning the 2 million dollars loss in the company we're currently bleeding 3 million dollars a month, dead divisions, vendors unpaid, and clients that owe us"...

Corey pauses, Damian looking with keen interest

Corey changes the slide

"THE PLAN, we cut 3 dead divisions that haven't been making profit in 18 months. We renegotiate all vendor contracts down 20 percent and we chase all outstanding invoices starting today".

Damian leaned forward with his hands on his chin, Corey changes to the next slide

"THE 2 MILLION, if we do this, we stop the bleeding in 30 days, in 60 days, we're cash positive, In 90 days, we pitch new clients with a clean balance sheet.

Silence

Some board members whisper to each other. Damian tales a slow sip of coffee

" Green zero, zero point zero?... He said with one eyebrow raised

Corey freezes for a second, then she said

" Exactly, because that's how we got here and that's how we get out

Damian set the cup down, paused for awhile and then he looked at Corey

"It's aggressive and risky, it's also the first time in a while someone came with numbers instead of problems" he looked around the table

" I move, we approve Corey's 30 day plan effectively " Damian Vance said and the board members approved of it, the C.F.O that gave her the balance sheet nodded

Damian nods once at Corey

"Don't make us regret this, Corey and.... Good work

Corey exhales for the first time and says "thanks" with a reassuring and cute smile

8:12 am

The boardroom meeting ended, Corey burst out, her phone already ringing

Alex on face time yelling

DID HE CRY?? , DID YOU SAY THE ZERO LINE??

Corey laughed..

"Surprisingly ...he approved it he actually said " good work " and ...yes I almost said the zero line" Corey said as she walked into the car ..."He's still annoying though" Corey smiles "But maybe...a little less annoying today".

"Day 1 complete, 29 more to go , now go chase that money bestie" Alex said.

Corey smiles and hunged up.... Immediately, her agent called.

"Ms Corey, your shoot is in 5min, pls be early"...

"I will.....am on my way, actually" Corey said and hunged up.

8:20am

"Ms Corey, glad u made it early... "Her agent sighed and leading her to the costume centre. Corey dressed and applied some makeup and then she moved to where the photographer was waiting for her.

"Ahh bonjour mademoiselle Corey! Welcome welcome! You are zee star, oui? The photographer with a weird French accent said

"Hi.... Yes, I'm the one for the shoot" Corey said as she let out a nervous laugh

"Okay pose un! Zee power walk!, Chin up shoulders back! Now mademoiselle walk to me like you own the building with elegance". The photographer said, Corey did as she was told and began to walk

"Like this", she said and tried different styles

"Yes! Yes! Yes! Oui! Oui! More clack clack with zee heels... Now hand on, chin up, eyessss!! to the future... Corey did perfectly well.

"Yes yes Magnifique! Now look at the camera like it owes you money"

Corey started into the lens.

"PERFEKT! That is it! That is zee pose! Now smile and show zee world your beauty!...

Corey gave a cute big smile and the click click of the photographer's camera echoed in the studio

"Ah! C'est Magnifique! That was perfekt"... Corey let out a laugh feeling relaxed

"Thanks "

After the shoot, Corey went back to her penthouse exhausted as she got home she pulled her shoe, and jewelries and fell on the bed with a thud

"Gosh, I'm so exhausted"... She said stretching her body on the bed... After some minutes, she got up to freshen up and made a sandwich, she ate it and gulped it down with warm milk.

As she was eating her phone rang it was a video call from her sister

"Hey lil sis... How was it being going with the company" her sis said.

"Hey sis... Things are going well, Damian gave me a challenge on the first day about a plan to repay the debt that father owed within 30 days and I pulled it off and now I'm so exhausted... Who knew running a company is that hefty" Corey said... Narrating every detail to her sister

"Well, that's the hard part of it all, Corey but I know you will handle it..." You are the strong and resilient girl I know... Her sister encouraged her.

"Thanks sis... That was nice... So, what have you been doing on your trip... You've been gone for a long time..". Corey said still munching her sandwich

"Oh! Just went for a little vacation in Italy and along the line I found my soulmate... His name is Juliano, he's Italian, he's so handsome and rich too".... Her sis replied.

"Whoa... You have a new boyfriend, what happened to Adam, you guys broke up.".. Corey asked surprised

"Yh, he turned out to be a jerk, so I left him, if I hadn't left I wouldn't have found Juliano he's so serious about me, brace yourself for your sister is about to get married.

"Slow down sis... You're already planning a family.. what if he ditches you and I will have to console your sorry butt"... Corey said.

"I see jealousy in the air, Go find your own.. let your sister fall in love will ya?" ... Her sis said

"Your cause... So when are you coming back "... Corey asked

"Not anytime soon... I still haven't met his parents, and I'm kinda living my best life in Italy"..." Her sis replied

"Okay... Enjoy your love life, I'm off to rest, I'm so exhausted" Corey said as she rose up from the dining to keep the plates.

"Okay sis... See you later.. love ya!" Her sis said and blew her a kiss from the other end...

"Love you too" Corey said and they hunged up...

Corey went into her room and laid there, staring into the chandelier in her room and closed her eyes and imagined her father in the company, she really misses him "if only you were here with me dad, life would have been much lighter" she whispered and soon she fell into a Deep sleep.
