Malrik’s POV By the time the last member of the security team left, I was the only one left standing at the edge of the ruined lake. My eyes moved across the destruction once more. Trees that had stood for decades lay uprooted like weeds. The shoreline had been ripped apart, deep cracks running through the ground as though something beneath it had tried to burst out. “Ridiculous,” I said to myself. I stepped closer to the water's edge, but the air still felt bad. After a while, I bent low and pressed my palm flat on the cracked ground.
