Kindness without thought
You know you read all the stories about charming billionaires, whirlwind romances, and corporate espionage and you think that can never happen in real life. Right? Well little did I know my whole life was about to change with one little push. But I am getting ahead of myself, the name's Alina Walters I'm your average 5'6 customer service call center employee. Most dates who I've met in person would generously call me a 6 out of 10. Frizzy hair, coke bottle glasses and my clothes have more coffee stains than buttons at this point. One evening I was running late to work, you see I commute mainly because I don't own a car. But I digress, I had my satchel bursting with papers and a coffee I've grabbed from my favorite cafe everyday for the last 7 years. As I power walked, I came across an intersection I cross like clockwork on my way to the office. Only this time there was an incredibly well dressed man about to be struck by an oncoming big rig. I don't know what came over me. The next thing I knew I sprinted out into the intersection not a thought in my head. I tackled him onto the curb at the last possible second. We hit the ground with a hard thud. Before I even realized it the man was already on his feet offering me a hand up. But as I absent mindedly took his hand the only thing I could focus on was his deep blue eyes. I found myself getting lost in them, like his eyes were so intense they peered into my very soul. I felt a strange, affection growing for the man? But I wrote it off as the heightened endorphins from narrowly avoiding becoming pavement paint. The only thing that stirred me from my stupor was his smooth velvet like voice as he addressed me " Thank you miss, are you ok?" I didn't anwser, all I could do was take in his appearance. his dignified slicked back silver hair. His strong and chiseled jawline. His shoulders were broad, he had to be atleast 6'1. Getting a better look at his suit I could tell it was incredibly expensive even covered in gravel from the sidewalk. It would probably take months if not years of my wages to buy a suit like that. But just as he was about to address me again other men in suits began running towards us in a frantic haste shouting " HEY WAIT!!" I immediately panicked thinking I had done something wrong and bolted down the street. A feat which was not easy mind you in heels. I felt a paper slip from my satchel but I wasn't going to look back to see what it was. The last thing I heard over the thumping of my own heart as rounded the corner was the man with blue eyes shouting out to me " Wait Ms!" A request I definitely ignored. I didn't need a bunch of guys in suits asking me a bunch of questions! What if they were the mafia or something! Questions like these plagued my mind as the adrenaline slowly seeped from my system as I made my way into my office building. The building had a logo with a bear holding a pill on it. You see I work for a company called "Better Bear Pharmaceuticals" no we didn't make the heavy duty drugs, mostly over the counter sleep aides and vitamins. The most mundane job I can think of. I can't tell you how many times customers have called in asking " Is this expired?" but today was the least boring day of my life! I almost died doing something stupidly heroic, saving an admittedly hot guy but what would I have done if I just got us both hit! Think alina think! The secretary at the front desk and my best friend Julie could immediately tell something was wrong. "Damn girl, you look like your hearts about to leap out of your chest! What happened!" Catching my breath I tried to compile everything into a few sentences. " There was this well dressed guy! And this big rig! and I saw it was gonna hit him! And I panicked! And all these dudes in suits showed up!" She could tell I was shaken. She came out from behind the front desk and rubbed my back soothingly. After a few minutes I managed to calm down and give a more coherent version of the events. Julie tried to offer some levity " Wow look at you ms superhero, saving lives even before punching in for the day." It didn't go well "Oh Crap I gotta punch in!" Julie laughed as I ran off to the elevator. She addressed me as I got inside the elevator " Let talk more after work, I'll pick up the tab tonight." This was our weekly ritual going out for drinks on a Friday night. I suppose it is nice of her to pick up the tab to cheer me up. We were always such good friends, even in high-school. She was the tough one, the one who would always keep the bullies of my back. And I was the honor student who let her copy my homework. We were basically like sisters. I went to work and I thought that was the end of these crazy events. Thinking I'd never see that guy again or those guys who were swarming him. kinda wonder what his deal was not gonna lie. But I digress I get to work and things are totally back to normal......right?
