CLIO'S POV
I sat rooted in the bed for a good 10 seconds; my mouth dropped to the ground. What the actual f**k did I do?!
Did I get drunk and actually sleep with two strangers?! Not just one?!
No, I was losing it. This was bad. I didn't know what to feel as a wave of emotions washed over me.
The first emotion I felt was shame. What had I become? I had become what Nate was. A cheater. I felt cheap.
What could make this worse was if they woke up to see me.
I quickly snuck out of bed without bothering to spare them a second glance as I grabbed my bag, which was strewn on the floor thankfully before I stole away.
It was already late morning, and I needed to find a place to stay, so I kept walking while trying to remember what exactly had happened the previous night. Wait, what if I was pregnant? The thought immediately hit me like a train, and I struggled to steady myself.
No, this was no time for that. I kept walking until I realized I had ventured into another realm. The Lycan realm. At least no one knew me here.
I would set up a new life and forget about the past. I would bury that aside and live like I was never betrayed and like Nate and Cassie never existed.
It has been six years. True to my fears when I started living here six years ago, it turned out that I was pregnant, and now I have a little daughter named Pearl.
The funny thing was that I didn't know who owned her. Was it one of the two men I had slept with, or was I Nate? I had had s*x with Nate that night when I left his pack, so there was also a possibility that Pearl was his daughter.
I didn't care though. I really didn't. I loved her all the same, and we loved together in the Lycans realm, where no one bothered us.
One morning, I heard a knock on my door, and I stilled, not expecting anyone to come to my house. I knew next to no one here, so who was at the door?
Sighing, I dropped what I was doing in the kitchen and made my way to the door, opening it to see two men. Twins
I'd be lying if I said my jaw didn't drop on seeing two identical Greek gods standing in front of my door at 9 in the morning.
They were the very definition of ethereal, and I was starstruck for a brief moment. Wow, I had a sudden desire stirring up within me, but I pushed it back down. Nope, not going there.
"Um, may I help you?” I asked, finally finding my voice.
The taller one nodded and looked over at this brother before looking at me again.
“Yes, I'm Zane, and this is my brother Zaren. Dark shadow brothers.” He introduced himself, his silky golden hair glinting in the sunlight that filtered through the doorway.
“Right. I don't know you both,” I said bluntly and made to close the door, but Zaren quickly put his foot to stop it from closing.
“One moment, miss. We just want to talk,” he said calmly, like he wasn't intruding on my privacy.
For some reason, they seemed utterly familiar, but I couldn't pinpoint where exactly I had seen them.
Zane looked at his brother with a dark look in his eyes and he shook his head at him.
“Look? Are you just here to stare at each other? Or do you have something to say?" I asked exasperated, my foot tapping against the floor as I struggled to keep myself in check.
I had left Pearl in her room, and I knew that it could turn into utter chaos if I left her for too long, which was why I was eager for the two men to state their business and get their handsome faces out of my house. The last I wanted was trouble, and for the last six years, I had managed to live in peace and quiet, but these men looked like the type to ruin that semblance of peace.
Zaren quickly smiled and straightened himself.
“We're here for the girl,” he said simply, and I froze.
“Excuse me?” I asked, not believing what I had just heard. Did he just ask me for Pearl?
The mere audacity.
“And you, of course." Zane quickly inputted.
Zaren looked at him in annoyance. “Let me handle this.”
“I can handle it equally well, so let me. She understands. It's your right, just as it's mine. You know that,” he retorted.
“Funny how you're the one to talk because last I checked, I was the one who found her, not you. You were busy dawdling around while I was doing the dirty job." The other brother said exasperated.
My mind began to reel as the two men started exchanging words like I wasn't even in their presence.
Something in my head clicked. I had an idea where I had seen them. It couldn't be. I looked up at the two men again, and my eyes widened, almost popping out of their sockets as I made sense of what they were saying. They were here for Pearl and me? Oh s**t. I was staring at the twins I had slept with those years back.
“Stop…” I muttered, trying to get myself together, but they didn't hear.
“f*****g stop!” I suddenly said, and they both froze and turned to me.
A sudden pull inside me made me gasp. What the f**k was that?
I knew what it was; I wasn't stupid.
"Mate,” my wolf Seraphina whispered, pacing about my consciousness restlessly.
“Are you alright, dear?” Zaren asked, his eyes furrowed together but making no move to touch me.
His brother looked at him.
“I f*****g told you to stop arguing. Now see what you did to her. You've put the lady in a shock.” He frowned at his brother.
I wasn't listening anymore. Not to their words. Not even to the world around me anymore. I was numb to everything around me.
The moon goddess must have made a mistake, but the familiar tug inside me made me know that it was real. The urges I had to suddenly reach out and touch them, to feel them marking every inch of me, were real. The urge to get them out before I did something stupid because of the mate bond was definitely real.
They were my second chance mates. Both of them.
