Killian’s POV
When I saw Callie on the ground bloodied and unmoving, I knew it was my fault and wanted to gather her in my arms and heal her or something but I knew I could not.
Jayden was by her side and checking her over while shouting out commands to the pack, a moment later Alex was by her side and he had a hand over her head and another over her chest.
“I managed to stop the blood loss, but she is too damaged.” Alex said and then did something completely unexpected he ripped off a chain that was around Callie’s neck and shoved it in his pocket. “Tell your pack to get away from her!”
Jayden did as he was told and the pack scattered, but I stayed frozen as I watched Callie start to move. I could hear her hard labored breaths and when she opened her eyes they were red.
“Alex, what have you done.” She said so softly I almost didn’t catch it.
Then that smell reappeared and I felt my wolf wanting to take over again, to get rid of the threat. My wolf was so focused on wanting to destroy the threat that he didn’t realize that Callie was the threat, when he realized it was Callie I fell down on my knees.
I had hurt the woman I yearn for. The woman I had fallen in love with the first moment I saw her. The truth hit me like a ton of bricks and once my wolf realized it as well, we let out a howl of agony.
“She needs blood.” Alex shouted as he held down Callie’s arms. “Without the necklace the dark side takes over, her vampirism side. If she drinks blood now while in this state she will make a full recovery.” He said and although what he said sounded like he knew what he was doing, his voice held out a lot of hope. Almost as though he was not really sure if what he said was true.
Jayden nodded his head in understanding and I just watched.
It is because of me that she is like this, maybe I could be the one to save her. I got up and moved to Callie’s side. “She can have my blood.” Alex just nodded his head once and squeezed my shoulder. “We don’t have a lot of time. She has to feed now; and I have to put the necklace back on her before she is too strong to fight and kills us all.” Alex said.
I wasted no time I leaned down so that my neck was exposed to her teeth.
Callie licked the column of my neck before she bit me and started drinking my blood. It felt like nothing I have ever felt before. It felt better than any s*x I have ever had before and I just wanted more from her. Even though she was still drinking from me, I felt hands on me pulling me away from Callie and I had to fight to restrain myself from moving back to Callie. I was feeling a bit dizzy, but that didn’t last too long.
When I looked at Callie she looked much better and Alex put the chain back on to Callie. Now she looked like she just fell asleep and was taking a nap.
“You okay?” Alex asked as Jayden went to his sister and lifted her up.
“Yes,” I answered and wanted to know something. “Is it always like that?”
“No, Callie is a new kind of breed. With her it would feel that way because of what and who she was before they experimented on her.” Alex explained. “I think it is time you all knew the truth.”
“I think so too.” Jayden said. “I am going to take Callie to her room, and then I expect everyone to meet in my office where you are going to explain everything to us.”
Jayden’s POV
Callie was still passed out and I had my parents, Alex and Killian in my office with me.
It was time we all knew the damn truth and find out what the hell was going on. “There are things that don’t make any sense at all to me. The major one being the protectiveness I felt for Callie. I get that I am her older brother and need to look after her not only as a sibling should but also asher Alpha but the way I felt in that moment that Callie was being attacked made no sense. I wanted to kill everyone that dared to lay a hand or claw on her. I felt like I failed to protect her when I saw her all bloodied up and wanted to end my life if she was dead.”
My feelings were conflicted and if not for my mate’s voice in my head telling me what to do, I am sure half my pack would have been dead by now. I am my sister’s keeper. I feel as though I have been charged with guarding her. Only time and hopefully what Alex is about to tell us will help make sense of all of this. “Start talking warlock.” I commanded.
Alex glared at me for a second before speaking. “First off you need to know that when Callie came home two years ago she found out her mate was being unfaithful. When she returned to England she was distraught and something happened. Each day that went by, there was some kind of energy that would emit from her that would just become stronger and stronger with the days that passed and her emotions. This energy would make those who were exposed to it extremely dangerous. They became greedy for s*x, money, drugs and other stuff. It awakened desires in people that should never have been awoken. It was also taking a lot out of Callie. I managed to help keep it stabilized but even I could not keep a hold of it for long. She became a ticking time bomb and her close knit of friends and I made a decision for her.” Alex sighed and looked around at all of us.
“What decision did you make? Why didn’t you just call us?” My mother asked, she looked like she was ready to rip Alex apart. And if I didn’t need Alex to still talk, I would have started ripping him apart already.
Alex ignored her question and carried on talking.
“There is a man, he is more of a legend than anything else, and he has trained the worst of assassins out there. He is not human; he is a mix between a warlock and an angel. I want to call him a shadow, because that is what he felt like. He has no name and he can only be found if he wants to be found.” Alex’s gaze was focused on a single book that was on my table. “Only he could help Callie, but in order to get his help she would need to be taken under his wing for a certain time period that he chooses. He only saves those he can train and make into more. Those he sees potential in and something in their hearts, which is one thing that not many people possess according to him. There was a chance he would refuse us and kill us if he chose to refuse to train us.”
“Us?” Killian asked.
“In order to get Callie to him, I had to take her. The moment I stepped foot in his domain there was a fifty - fifty chance I would not have left there alive.” Alex said casually before he carried on telling us what happened. “He helped Callie, taught her to control the energy and to stop it from being released from her. For a year Callie and I would go to him at night and train, he taught us to be the perfect assassins, but he spent more time training Callie. She went through hell, but she did not let that destroy her. He forced me to focus on my powers to enhance them and with Callie he just said her gifts come naturally to her if she starts trying to perfect them she never will be able to really use them. Her gifts are connected to her will and emotions.
“One day he told us that we have learnt enough indoors and there is only so much he could teach us, the rest we would have to learn on our own. That is when we started receiving assignments. I bet the man who said experience is the best teacher never had to go through what we went through.” Alex said and then sat down, he had a haunted expression on his face.
He looked paler all of a sudden and I felt something that can only be described as death. “The assignments started off small, collect things without being seen or caught, then the things became bigger or highly protected and our skills were used to incapacitate the guards. Then we had to kill without leaving a trace, not even a magical signature that could have been traced back to me. Callie and I managed to do all of this without letting it affect who we were to the rest of the world. Then we got an assignment that we thought would be easy enough, it was similar to ones we had to do in the past. Get a sample of some or other serum, the notes and destroy the labs. The only way we could get in was to get caught and that is when everything changed.
“Callie was the perfect specimen for them, for whatever they did to her would not bother her because she could change her DNA, she would be able to rid her system of everything they injected her with. Unfortunately, we were wrong. They somehow found a way to break her and whatever they were giving to her started to affect her, she let it because she could not let them expect anything is wrong. I was trapped with the other prisoners and the one time I tried to make a psychic connection to Callie I knew something was wrong, whoever we were dealing with was not human and I could not risk getting us caught. For three days we were there and not even I know what exactly happened to her but what I do know is that we fought to get ourselves out and to complete our assignment. Many died that night, we tried to save as many innocents as we could but we could only save so many.
“A week after we escaped, Callie started acting strange. She killed an innocent by accident. She became something akin to a vampire. Her humanity was almost completely gone. I was told of a stone that would help her and while she was locked up I searched for it.” Alex spotted a picture of Callie, smiling and holding a balloon in her hand when she was eight, and a sad smile appeared on his face.
“There are still a lot of blanks that I cannot fill in for you, but whoever kidn*pped Skye, is part of the same group that we dealt with back in England.” He turned to face my mother before speaking again. “I don’t know why they want your blood, not now anyway, but I know you need to be kept safe and under guard till we discover what happens. I will be calling in some back up of my own and Callie will need to be watched as well. I think that when Callie drank Skye’s blood to rid you of the poison it had a small effect on her.”
Once I cleared my head and processed everything, I told everyone to just go wash and then meet in the dining hall.
I went to check in on Callie and saw that she was still passed out; I felt this overwhelming sense to stay by her.
Sarah came in to check on me when it was time for dinner.
“You should go, I can keep an eye on her for a while.” She said as she ran her hand over my head and smiled at me. “I will go now, I just can’t leave her.”
“I know what happened to her, your mother told me everything.”
I shook my head when she said that, there is no way that my mother could have told her everything because we are still left in the dark with regards to a lot of things. We don’t know what exactly Callie went through.
Nobody knows what she is capable of.
“Jayden, you should know that when I was with my mother earlier something happened. We both had a vision of the same thing.” Sarah said and looked down at her feet.
I got up and pulled her in my arms. It was decided that I would never request that she would tell me what the future holds. Once we know the future, the changes we try to make might have worse consequences than just letting it be.
“You need to know what I saw.” Sarah’s voice was shaky now and she sounded like she was near to tears.
“Then tell me,” I whispered.
When Sarah looked up at me, her eyes looked haunted and they were filled with fear and sorrow.
“I saw destruction and in another part of the vision I saw a light and something akin to birth.
Callie is on the brink of good and evil. As strange and cliché as it sounds. Callie is fighting a war inside herself and whatever happens you will have no choice but to follow her. I fear for all of us.”
“If evil takes her over we are ruined and if she dies we are ruined. There is no way out of all of this. Callie’s child will play the most important part in the world’s survival. You, Killian and Chase are to guard her to keep her safe. Callie needs to give birth and that is not going to happen soon.” Sarah closed her eyes and I felt her wolf retreating.
“I am so confused right now.” I said, telling her the truth, none of this really made any sense to me.
“This is because of the moon goddess knows all that this is happening. She is mother to all werewolves and other lycans, for her to have had a child went against the rules. Her punishment is to watch the first three generations of her daughters suffer. Your mother, Callie and Callie’s child are merely conveniences for the evil that has and will surface. Just as humans have had their world wars, which we have taken part of, as well as the supernatural have had their wars that might involve humans and affect them all. I am sorry to say that whatever happens now is only going to get worse. ”
Sarah was full out crying now and I held her tightly in my arms. I knew of my mother’s history and now finding out about Callie and all she has been through and all she has yet to go through is not fair. Neither is it right.
Power comes with consequences.
My wolf said.
What are you talking about?
I could hear my wolf sigh.
Selena, your grandmother was willing to give up a lot to be with Richard. Love and power is what created your mother, it is because of that love and power that your mother had to suffer and it is because of love and power that she managed to defeat the Rogue Alpha and get your father back.
“I am still a bit lost, but I think I understand.”
We are werewolves, we live for affection, we are protective of family and we only ever have one mate. Our true love, Selena found her soulmate but because of who she is she knew there would be a consequence if she was with him.
My wolf said and I could see the story playing out in my head.
You need to remember that although the consequences are grave there is always hope and there is happiness and love waiting. Callie has a chance, you just need to believe that.
My wolf retreated and I realized that somehow I made my way to the dining hall and everyone was looking at me.
“What are you waiting for?” I said in a tone that I hoped revealed none of my worries. “Eat!”
Chase’s POV
Something was wrong with Callie.
Whatever it was, it felt dark and powerful. It shocked the hell out of me and I just knew I had to get to Callie as soon as possible. I hopped in my car and started driving like a man possessed.
Hell, even Dean became worried about me. He contacted me through the mind-link and when I told him that I was heading to Callie, he cursed and told me he won’t be far behind.
The trees that surrounded me looked a little darker than usual and there was a strange scent in the air, like something evil was ascending. Whatever was going on it involved Callie and I needed to get to her and find out what the hell is going on. We need to get to our mate!
My wolf commanded and if I was not already pissed I probably would have been when he growled at me.
I didn’t answer or say anything to him, I just carried on driving. Callie needs me whether she realizes it or not.
It took two hours of me driving to her at full speed to get to her. I know I must have broken more than a few traffic rules but I couldn’t care about that now.
Jayden and that Killian guy were standing on the porch talking. I barely switched off my car before I was out and half way up the porch already.
“Where is she?” I asked not bothering on formalities or caring that I was on another Alpha’s territory without his permission.
Jayden looked at me and his eyes were filled with regret and something else that I just couldn’t place.
“She is resting,” Jayden said and then grabbed hold of my arm and squeezed it tightly. “You messed-up with her and I hate to say this but she is going to need you. Before you see her we need to talk.”
Something about the way he said ‘talk’ worried me.
It took Jayden half an hour to tell me everything. If all he said was true, then hell would soon be upon us and Callie will be in the middle of it all. And if what Jayden told me is true then so would my child.
There is only one way for Callie to fall pregnant. I am her one true mate. She is mine and I will be damned if any other man wants to touch her.
