Callie’s POV
It took me a few minutes to get to Jayden through the mind-link.
“Thank God!”
Jayden practically shouted through the mind-link.
All of us have been worried about
you, especially Killian for some reason.
Are you done talking? I’m with mom now and I would like to get out of this hell hole.
I felt my father trying to get through to my mind-link as well so I allowed him to.
You found her?
How is she?
My father asked. He sounded relieved and worried at the same time.
She is fine, but weak. They have been injecting her with some toxins or other venom.
I told him and looked at my mother once again. I had to convince her to eat to get some of her strength back.
I am going to try and see if I can get some of the venom out of her system, she needs to at least have a bit of strength to keep her own at least until we get out this place.
So what is the plan of attack?
Jayden asked.
I knew that what I was about to say next would upset him, but it had to be done my way. We cannot fight these people blindfolded, we do not know what they are capable of.
We are going to need a distraction, this is a rescue mission not a battle. There is no way we can go against them. We don’t even know what they are.
In a softer voice I added,
“I don’t know what they are.”
“Damn it, are you sure Callie?”
Yes, we might be able to kill them all. Or they might kill us all and the pack ours and Killian’s pack will be open to annihilation.
I said, and waited a few seconds.
“The warriors along with Killian agree with you, what do you have in mind?” Jayden asked.
There is a weak spot at the south-west entrance to this camp site. They have no one patrolling there and it is on the opposite end to where we are now. I told Jayden, sending him images through the mind-link.
I want seven men there causing a disruption and then running off, make sure they gain enough attention so that whoever these people are, will try to hunt them down.
The rest of the men must be spread out and keep vigil over the place. At the north-east entrance I want two men waiting for us and to make sure the coast is clear for us to escape. I want dad to be with them. You got it? Yes, good luck squirt.
I made sure to take note of every little thing while I pretended to be unconscious, so that I could relay the necessary information to the pack.
Jayden said in a gentler tone and I felt him leave. I turned off my mind-link and looked at my mother.
“Are you ready?” I asked my mom.
I had explained to her what I was going to do earlier. You can call it a blood transfusion. I will have to drink her blood and let her drink mine. Since she is a werewolf it won’t kill her, but whatever they have been giving her might affect me. And then again there is the fact that my blood is tainted, so there is no telling what it could do to her.
I changed my DNA so that I was completely werewolf. In order for this to work I had to allow a bit of my vampire side to show.
“Yes, but are you ready.” My mother asked and I just smiled at her, far from ready to tell her.
I bit my wrist and then bit down on her neck, on the opposite side of my father’s mark. I drank her blood and as I drank it I tried to change it and get rid of whatever venom was in her blood. While I was doing that she drank my blood. She soon let go of my wrist, but I still carried on drinking her blood until I got out as much venom as I could without doing any harm to her.
I fell down, as I felt some of the venom that was once in her system make it known in my system. For some weird reason it felt like it was weakening me as well as making me stronger at the same time. I wonder what part of me it was making stronger. I was not able to get all of the venom dissolved while I changed my DNA.
“Are you okay, Callie?” My mother asked as she bent down and looked me over.
“I am good, that just took a little bit out of me.”
“Okay, well I feel a bit better now. But I can’t hear my wolf or feel my powers.” My mother said and just to prove a point she flicked her fingers and nothing happened.
We had two minutes left, I tried to shift but I couldn’t. Something was blocking me from shifting and I began to panic.
What is happening?
I tried asking my wolf.
There was no reply, but I could feel that she was still there. I just couldn’t get through to her.
I inherited very few gifts from my mother, none of which are any good for battle. I might have Alpha blood in me, but there is no way I could control these people to do as I say. I didn’t inherit the power of suggestion from her.
I looked at my mother and she had a confused look on her face, she knew as well as I did that we were running out of time. We will only have a little time given to us to escape. “What’s wrong?” she asked, her violet eyes mirroring mine.
“I can’t shift,” I told her truthfully. “But that doesn’t matter I am a strong fighter, if I can take down five werewolves in human form without any of my werewolf strength and speed I am sure I can get us out during the distraction.” I assured her.
My mother looked worried, but then nodded her head slowly and stood up straight. She did a few stretches and then smiled at me. “I think it is time we go.”
She was right, I could hear the commotion that was happening above me. I smiled back at her and then frowned when I looked at the door in front of us.
How could I be so stupid?
How am I going to get my mother and me out of this hell hole if I can’t even get us out of this dungeon?
“Don’t think about it.” My mother said.
I was not sure what she meant by that, all I knew was that I needed to do whatever it takes to get us out of here. It felt like I was not in control of my actions, one moment the door was in front of us and then it was like I blinked and I was in front of the door and ripping it off the hinges and throwing it to the side like it was just a piece of cardboard that was in the way. Even for a werewolf that was weird. We were strong, but not that strong.
I looked back at my mother and saw her eyes were wide as she looked at me and then at the door that now laid on the other side of the dungeon, leaving a dent in the wall.
“We need to leave now.” I said and she nodded her head once and followed me out.
We made to the end of the dungeon with no worries and I saw a few other people who were trapped but something told me it was already too late for them. I wanted to help them but there was nothing I could do for them and they would only hinder our escape.
We were now in the clearing and I saw that most of the men were not close to us. A few more seconds and we would be reunited with the pack and my mother will be reunited with her mate.
We were so close to the meeting point when I felt a wisp of air pass me and saw a man standing in front of me. He reminded me of someone I knew back in London. He had the same dark hair and build. His jawline and nose confirmed it for me, he was one of the young men I tried to save when I escaped from that disgusting lab. My mission was simple, retrieve and then leave, but I just couldn’t leave him there. I tried my best but it wasn’t good enough and I failed him. I got attached when I shouldn’t have and I almost died and failed my mission.
“Neil?” I said softly, but he showed no sign of recognition. His eyes were blood red and I knew what he had turned into. He was now a monster the same as I was and there is no way I could help him.
He moved to my mother and lifted her up by her throat as he looked at me. I felt frozen by his stare, if it was not for my mother kicking and trying to get him to let her go I would have stood there like that longer.
I was in front of him in a blink of an eye and managed to get my mother away from him without hurting her, I quickly turned my head to my mother and looked towards the trees where my father waited for her. She needs to leave now while I buy her some time.
My wolf was still dormant but I had extra strength and speed that I never had before, there is a chance that I might be able to beat Neil.
It took Neil a second to come in front of me again and throw me against a tree, I barely felt it because I was soon on my feet again returning the favor. We were moving so fast around each other that it felt a bit strange one moment we were close to the meeting point and the next we were in the middle of all the men who had kept my mother hostage.
We carried on throwing punches and kicks at each other. We were fighting so much that we ended up somewhere far from where we started, I didn’t recognize the place and I became a bit worried. I was so worried that I stopped paying attention to him, he took advantage of that moment and moved my head slightly so that he could bite my neck.
I would have fought him off me if it didn’t feel so good, the feeling of his mouth over my neck while he drank my blood was bordering orgasmic.
Who knew it would feel this way?
Now I knew what he had become and I couldn’t fight him anymore. He stopped drinking my blood and then licked over the wound he had created; it made me shiver and moan. It just didn’t have me under the same control he had me under a second before I took a chance and pushed him off me. He looked surprised when I did that and I returned the courtesy. I bit down on his neck and starting drinking his blood, a feeling of euphoria came over me and we were both enjoying it. I felt my strength returning and felt as his strength began to deplete.
I just needed him to be weak enough so that he would pass out and I could return to the pack grounds. My parents and Jayden would be worried about me, but I am sure Alex will reassure them I am alive and feel for my life force.
The moment Neil passed out, I let go of him and watched as he fell to the ground. I felt sorry for him, he has been through a lot and I was unable to help him.
I bent down and gave him a peck on his lips before I picked him up and made my way back to the pack house, back to my brother’s territory.
“We will find a way to cure you.” I told Neil, even though he was unconscious.
It took me a while to get to my pack grounds, once I got two of the pack members to secure Neil in the dungeon. Killian had just exited the pack house when he saw me and practically attacked me, okay more like embraced in a bear hug. He held me tight and I felt like I belonged in his arms.
His embrace felt good, warm and comforting.
I needed this more than anyone would know.
“I love you Callie, you have no idea how worried I was about you.” He whispered in my hair.
This cannot be! He cannot love me, I was frozen I could not reply and nor did I know how to reply. What am I going to do now?
I was so focused on my thoughts that I did not realize that Killian lifted my face so that he could lean down and kiss me, the moment his lips touched mine I kissed him back and enjoyed it as our lips moved in sync and his tongue entered my mouth.
All too soon it ended, Killian pulled away from me and I saw that his face held confusion and worry.
“Why does your mouth taste like blood?” He asked, “Your mother said your wolf was dormant. What happened?”
Killian took a sniff and soon his eyes turned black and as I looked around and saw that the handful of pack members that were currently outside also took a whiff and their eyes turned black. . Their wolves had taken over and I did not know why.
“What is going on?”
Jayden’s POV
I knew something went wrong the moment we caught sight of my mother and Callie was nowhere near her. My little sister was in trouble and nobody caught sight of her, smelled her or sensed her anywhere near them. We had to make a decision. I had to make a decision.
I sent word through the pack’s mind-link for everyone to return back to the pack house, and told Killian to do the same. We succeeded in our mission, now my only hope was that Callie was alright.
I caught up to my parents and my mother embraced me, she put her hand on my cheek and smiled at me. Her warm motherly smile that we all missed and were afraid we would never see again.
“What happened back there? What happened to Callie?” I asked my mother and watched as her face fell and worry was etched on her face now.
“We ran into some trouble and Callie took care of it.” Her voice trembled a bit and she looked in front of her as she was remembering something. “The man we ran into she seemed to recognize him, but he was different. He moved so fast that he was barely even a blur and he looked dead.”
“Did Callie mention a name?” Alex asked. I didn’t even realize he was with us, he did a cloaking spell to mask all of our scents before we charged in and that was the last I saw of him till now.
My mother looked at Alex and crinkled her nose. “Are you new to the pack?” she asked and it made me curious as to why she would ask that. Surely with her werewolf senses she would be able to tell that he is not a werewolf.
“No mam, I am a friend of Callie’s.” Alex responded and then asked the question again. “Did she say a name when you two ran into trouble?”
“Yes, it was Neil.”
Alex’s face seemed to fall and he looked like he was turning back to fetch Callie or find this Neil person. I couldn’t let him do that so I grabbed hold of his shirt and growled at him.
“What do you think you’re doing?” I let a bit of my Alpha voice slip in, hoping that it would rattle him a bit but he didn’t seem fazed by it at all.
“Let’s just say that if it is the same Neil that was with us back in London we have to go back. I know Callie, if he has somehow become dangerous she might either kill him or try to save him and get killed herself.” Alex explained. “We need to go back.”
As much as I wanted to go back, I just couldn’t allow that. We needed to go back to the pack house. “I am sorry Alex, but we can’t do that. Callie will be fine.”
“She might not be.” My mother said, when I looked at her I saw nothing but fear in her eyes. “She did something to make me strong enough to get out of that dungeon, without her having to worry that moving me would kill me.”
What is she talking about?
“Callie bit her wrist and told me that in order for her to get the venom out without killing me was for me to drink her blood while she sucked out the venom which had already mixed with some of my blood.” She went on to explain. “She told me that she was able to manipulate her DNA and in doing so hopefully get rid of the venom they had been giving me. It worked but I still couldn’t do much. The only problem is that the venom caused her wolf to go dormant and I don’t know what the venom did to her gifts, but it also awoke something in her. She became so much stronger and faster.”
Understanding dawned on me, when she spoke of Callie being able to manipulate her DNA. But what happened to Callie? As much as I wanted to find her, I knew we had to return back to the pack and my wolf was eager to see his mate again, I needed Sarah to calm me down.
“Mom, Callie is strong she takes after you.” I told my mother and gave her a hug. My father smiled at me and I saw pride in his eyes, but his eyes also held a hint of concern and I knew it was for Callie.
We made it back to the pack and the few pack members that got injured were taken to the infirmary and the rest returned to their families. Luckily there was no major injuries, it was a rescue mission so we made it out alright, for the most part.
“Where is she?” Killian asked as he stormed up to me once again. I already told him five minutes ago that I don’t know where she was and he just looked all the more frustrated and murderous, almost as though he was losing control of his wolf.
“I told you already I am as clueless as you are at the moment, if she does not return within an hour we will go out to find her.” I said calmly even though I was definitely not calm.
Killian huffed and walked away from me.
“I know you’re worried.” Sarah said as she wrapped her arms around my waist and placed a small kiss on my bare shoulder. I was only wearing shorts and having skin contact with my mate calmed and aroused me at the same time. I love her more than anything in the world.
“Callie is strong, but if she doesn’t return soon –”
“I know.” Sarah said cutting me off.
I closed my eyes and reveled in the feeling of having my mate touch me and being so close to her. When all of a sudden I felt something was wrong and made my way to the rest of the pack to see that most of them have let their wolves take control and they were growling.
I took a sniff of the air and smelled something so vile it irked my wolf, but something in me told me that I should not let myself lose control. The voice was feminine and sweet. It told me to be careful to let the pack’s feelings cause me to do something I would forever regret.
There was more growls and snarls and wolves started flying in the air as though they have been thrown up like rag dolls.
What the hell is going on?
I went right to the cause of all the commotion and saw Callie fighting all the wolves that attacked her. She looked pained and hopeless.
“STOP!”
My one command caused everyone to stop what they were doing and they all bowed as I let the effect of my Alpha powers out. They were on the verge of killing my only sister.
I looked at her and she weakly smiled at me before she passed out and I panicked. There was blood all around her. That vile smell slowly started to dissipate and she started smelling like herself again, like a werewolf.
Her form was unmoving and the rest of the pack began to share in my worry. They attacked the Alpha’s sister. I am responsible for her safety, and my own had just attacked her. If Callie died – .
