Chase’s POV
I felt it and it hurt like a b***h. Is this what she felt every time I slept with someone? The pain stung and crippled me, if not for Dean I would have been withering in the woods in pain. It was still a little early and I had decided to go for a run in my territory. The whole thing with Callie was driving my wolf nuts and we both needed the fresh air.
I was just about to kill and feast on a deer when all of a sudden I felt this pain in my chest that burned through my whole body and made me feel like I was been shocked by an electric eel or something. The moment I felt it, I knew it was because of Callie. It didn’t feel like she was in pain or anything, but it hurt me a lot. I soon realized it was because she was having s*x with someone that was not me.
We have known we were each other’s mates for a very long time. The connection between us was strong, even though Callie no longer wanted anything to do with me.
Whoever that bastard was I wanted to kill him, he touched my mate and soiled her. He took what belonged to me. The pain was so much that I couldn’t even think straight and it weakened me so much I couldn’t walk or get back to the pack house.
This is your entire fault!
My wolf growled at me and I had no choice but to agree with him.
Callie must have been at it for a long time, because the pain would subside for a little bit but then would return with a vengeance. After thirty minutes of enduring the first few blasts of pain Dean found me and helped me back to the pack house.
I must have been screaming and going on like crazy, because they called the pack doctor and he could not pin-point what it was, only what it could be. He mentioned that when mates have a strong connection when one is unfaithful the other would know, which only confirmed what I already knew.
Callie was with another man.
Instead of feeling sorry for me, my father just glared at me then walked out of the room and Dean stayed for a bit.
He walked up to my bed as I felt another sharp pain in my chest and I hissed. “I warned you, we both knew that Callie would not have liked what you did. She was hurt and I know Callie, she does not realize that her being with another man without having you reject her as she has done with you is hurting you so much.” He shook his head at me when I attempted to glare at him.
“Let’s face it, she might not have felt anything because of who she is and her bloodline. But what if she did?” Dean hissed he was truly pissed off at me. I am his brother and he cares more for my mate than me. “Think of all the times you slept around and cared nothing of it. Maybe she woke up crying in pain at a much younger age than you are now. Imagine what she might have gone through all because you couldn’t keep it in your pants.” Dean ran his hand through his hair and his eyes were black, it was official his wolf had now taken over. “The moon goddess is mother to all of us werewolves, we are children of the night and you were blessed to be mates with someone who is from the direct bloodline of the moon goddess and from angel blood.” he spat at me and growled when I tried to say something. This cannot be good; I could hear my wolf whimpering from both the pain I was in and because of Dean and his wolf.
“Callie, would have made a wonderful Luna to our pack and you have ruined that. Her wolf has howled to the moon and her connection to you has been broken. It is time to admit defeat and break your connection to her.” Dean’s wolf said. A few seconds later Dean’s eyes changed back to their forest green color.
“You know my wolf is right, you had your chance with Callie and you blew it. The mate bond between you two is half way severed.” Dean’s eyes were filled with sorrow. “I am sorry Chase, but you must sever your connection to Callie or it will kill you.”
“No!!!”
My wolf shouted when Dean said that.
There is still hope, the mate bond can be reconnected. You screwed up not me. I still deserve a chance with my mate.
Although I did not say it out loud to Dean, my wolf was right. He did deserve a chance with his mate and there is still hope. One way or another I will get Callie back no matter what it takes.
Callie’s POV
“Why do you smell like Callie?” Jayden’s voice boomed throughout the pack house and I knew he was talking to Alex. This can’t be good, Jayden is being my big brother now when I really wish he wouldn’t be. I don’t need him questioning Alex now, when the only person I really want to get mad is not even here yet. There is a connection between Killian and me and it needs to be broken, now if only Jayden will leave Alex alone.
So what if I lost my virginity before he did to someone who is not my mate. Who cares?
I rolled out of bed and walked to my door, Alex is going to need my help against Jayden. I let out a loud yawn as I opened my room door and saw Jayden and Alex standing in the passage growling at each other. Could they be anymore immature?
“Do you mind? I wanted to sleep for another ten minutes.” I said making sure I got their attention. I walked up to them and hit Alex behind his head. “I told you to take a shower before you went to bed last night.” Jayden huffed, so I turned around and smacked him behind his head as well. “Alex and I slept together last night, we had s*x and that is all it was. I wanted it so leave him alone.”
Jayden growled at me, so I glared at him. For some reason after a few seconds of glaring at each other Jayden whimpered and bowed his head, treating me as a superior instead of like a lower ranking member in the pack. He is the Alpha, I don’t understand why he would do this? And I get that I am his younger sister, so I am not exactly all that low when it comes to pack ranks but his actions were still weird.
“What’s going on here?” My father asked as he headed towards us.
I was still looking at Jayden, not bothering to answer my father.
“Am I going to get an answer, or are you TWO just going to stand there and glare at each other.”
Dad sounded angry, but that didn’t faze me. In the past I might have been scared but not now.
“Your mother needs us. Once we get her back you can carry on with this.” He said and then walked away, probably just getting ready for the rescue mission.
“I am sorry Callie, after all you have been through I shouldn’t be angry.” Jayden said and he had a small smile on his face. “I love you Callie, you’re my only sister and I haven’t been there in the past when you needed me.”
I smiled at Jayden and stood on my toes to give him a hug. “I love you too big bro.”
Jayden, if only you knew all I have been through and all the lies I have told in the past, if you knew my secret I doubt you would still love me. I thought and made my way back to my room, noticing that I was wearing one of Alex’s shirts.
Damn! I am surprised my father didn’t say anything about it.
Twenty minutes later we were all prepared and were just waiting for Killian and a few of his men. I couldn’t help but wish that he would just hurry up. I really wanted to see him and so did my wolf. I hate that I feel this away, Killian drives me insane. Once Killian smells Alex on me, he will realize that I can never be with him, at least I hope he would. He still doesn’t know that Chase and I are mates and I don’t want him to ever find out that we are. If he thinks that I am just messing around till I find my mate that would be great. He will not want me.
“They are here.” Craig announced; he is Jayden’s Beta and Sarah’s older brother. He also just arrived back from his backpacking trip in Asia. My wolf was practically doing somersaults when we saw Killian and his Beta Julian. I made sure I had no emotions displayed on my face. It was time for me to give my orders and take charge, as I was supposed to.
I walked up to Killian and held out my hand to him. He smiled at me and that smile soon turned to a snarl and a growl reverberated through the room. His eyes turned completely black and I did not know what to do. For once I was completely clueless and frozen to the core.
“Who were you with?” Killian asked, but it wasn’t really him. It was his wolf.
I shuddered and so did my wolf when he spoke. I had to remind myself that this is what I wanted. The only thing is I could not understand was why Killian’s wolf was taking over. He was acting as though I was his mate.
I reminded myself that I could not show any emotions, I had to remain cold. “What gives you the right to ask me that? You are here to help bring back my mother, Selena’s daughter. I suggest you let Killian take back control and aid us to the best of your ability in retrieving my mother. We can talk once we have her back where she belongs. Am I understood?”
Killian got down on his knees and bowed his head. “Yes Alpha.”
When Killian raised his head again I saw that he was back in control, but his eyes were filled with anger and sadness. I looked around and saw that everyone else who were with us looked at me with shock and fear evident in their faces.
I reminded myself that Killian’s men were not around when I took on those other wolves in human form and the only reason we had Killian along with a few of his men is because they are on our lands and in order to keep the peace between the two packs when one is in trouble the other must help.
Five hours later the pack’s ten strongest warriors along with Killian and three of his warriors were with us. My father was getting restless and I could understand why. We all could sense her.
We just didn’t know where she was.
There were other scents that smelled extremely familiar to me, but I could not place them. We were in the middle of nowhere. The place felt like a dessert and we were exhausted from running.
I looked at my father and brother and knew they were thinking the same thing I was. We were looking out for traps and trying to figure out who and what we were up against. I have an idea.
I mind-linked to Jayden and my father, they looked up at me. Their wolf forms looked insanely similar to each other, whereas I looked more like my mother.
We were still in wolf form, since we were stronger, faster and much more powerful in wolf form
it was for our own safety. So we could only communicate via the mind-link.
What is it?
Jayden asked.
I can get in without being detected, if they are able to detect me they will think I am human.
I said, not really caring if they are willing to go with the idea or not. But we have been here for thirty minutes and have not been able to come up with much yet and everyone was on edge.
NO! What if they decide to shoot you or take you in. Then we will have two people to rescue. I will not have that.
My father said, and if I could I would have been rolling my eyes at him.
You are going to have to trust me. Tell the others. I will let you know when I find her and then we can get her out of here and kill those bastards. If they take me in I would be able to handle things on the inside. Please just trust me on this.
I did not wait for a response. I shifted back to human form and I heard three wolves’ growl but I ignored it as I put on my clothes. I began ripping it a bit and scratching myself. I even went as far as running into a tree to injure myself some more. I got some dirt on me and changed my DNA making it seem like I was just human and was unable to heal. Now I looked and smelled like a human that has been through hell and is looking for help. Time to see if this will work.
I walked through the trees till I made my way to the clearing where the people were. I am not sure if I should call them hunters or something else. I couldn’t sense anything about them for some reason.
“Help me.” I croaked out when I saw two people walk in front of me. I made a show of stumbling before I fell down and pretended to lose consciousness. I waited for them to do something.
“Damn it!” someone muttered and I felt a cold hand touch my wrist and another touching my neck, checking for a pulse.
I heard sniffs and managed to open my eyes just a little to see a man run his finger over one of my open wounds and scooped up some of my blood. He sniffed it, before he licked it off his finger. “She is human, we can nurse her back to health and include her in the experiments or we could just kill her.” The man said. His voice was cold and void of any emotions. He looked at me and I could almost feel his eyes raking over my body. He could sense something about me, of that I was sure.
“Put her with our hostage. The Luna has not said anything or eaten anything since we kidn*pped her. If she sees this poor human, she might decide to start eating to regain her strength to help her.” Another man said; his voice was more melodious but sounded evil and alluring at the same time.
“Just make sure you inject our little Luna with some more venom before you put the human with her. And make sure you take her some food. We need her to be healthy enough to do some more experiments. We still need her, her blood is extremely valuable to us now more than ever.
That and her powers we can harvest once we are done.” The first man spoke again and I felt him move away from me.
The other man with the seductive voice lifted me up and I felt him run his nose up and down my neck. “You sure are a gorgeous little thing.’ He whispered.
This man made me sick, but I could allow my DNA to change back to normal. I so wanted to kill him, whatever they were giving my mother did not sound good. It made her defenseless.
Whatever this venom is it does not sound good. From the sounds of it is worse than wolfs bane.
I felt myself being lowered again on something that was a little softer than the ground I had fallen on.
“You remind me of someone, a girl that was part of the experiments a few years ago. I think it was two years ago. She was a feisty little thing, but like the rest of the experiments she was a failure and I presume she died with the rest.” He said, he was walking about the room and next I felt that I was being lifted up again and taken somewhere that did not feel familiar at all. I have been through here before and I can tell you now this underground passage way we were now under were far from familiar to me.
I remembered that I had to keep up this façade, so I pretended to wake, “where am I?” I asked softly, making sure that my voice came out croaky and I sounded like someone that had bronchitis.
“You are safe, for now.” The man said. I opened my eyes wider and took in his appearance.
The memories came back to me; him touching me in ways that was far from necessary, the rapeof that girl, his promises to me and him being the one that stood over me and watched as they injected me with who knows what. Whatever it was changed me and made me even more of a monster than I was before. I went through hell. The pain was so much and it was all because of him, he inflicted all that pain on me. The man with the raven hair, steely grey eyes and a scar that ran from his forehead down to his neck this is the man that gave me nightmares before I decided to change. I shut off my emotions and shut down from the world. If not for Alex and the girls I might as well have been dead.
I felt a slightly powerful aura that could only belong to my mom and wanted to smile when I felt it. “Hey Luna, got you a friend.”
My mother took one look at me and her eyes widened, she gasped and looked about ready to rip this man apart. I shook my head slightly at her and silently begged her with my eyes to not do anything rash.
“You monsters!” she screamed. “What did you do to that girl?” her voice was strong and she was glaring at the man who carried me into her cell.
He laughed at her and threw some things beside me. “For once we did nothing, patch her up and make sure you eat something. We don’t want you to die, but if you continue with this foolishness we won’t hesitate to kill the girl.” He growled that last part and then pulled out a syringe from his back pocket; he uncapped it and then injected it into her neck.
After a minute of my watching my mother writhe and make noises that aren’t even normal for a werewolf she finally calmed down and glared at the man. The look she had in her eyes was filled with hatred and disgust. The man just smirked and then walked out, finally leaving me alone with my mother.
Once he was gone, my mother rushed to my side, even though she was weak she refused to show it.
“Callie, what are you doing here? Why did they not kill you? What is going on here?” My mother questioned, firing off one question after the other without giving me a chance to explain. She ran her hand over my head and cupped my cheek in her palm.
“I will tell you everything you need to know, but for now I need you to trust me. I have a plan.”
