Broken Promises

chapter eight

"Hey guys, time for school." Kyle calls to us as we are all waking up and taking turns in the bathroom getting ready.

"Thank goodness it's Friday." Says Tanner.

"Got that right." Kailey says, taking a drink of coffee she got from Starbucks where we all stopped to get drinks.

We are currently sitting by the guys cars in the school parking lot, drinking our Starbucks, when the first warning bell goes off, signaling that first period is about to start.

"Well, we should be getting to class." I say, getting up off the ground and heading into the school with the others following behind me and splitting up to first hour.

As the time went by, I was getting more and more nervous about the dance and couldn't stop feeling like something bad was going to happen.

"Dude, she's lost in thought again." I hear Kyle tell River.

But before I could turn and say anything the bell rang to announce that first period was over. I walk out of the room with the guys closely behind me, when get hit by an instant headache that makes me basically fall against the lockers.

"Rose?" I hear River say with concern in his voice and worry written all over his face. "Are you okay? Why are you laying on the floor?"

I just look at him, not saying anything, and I put my hand up to my pounding head as I try to get up off the floor. After a few minutes the headache goes away slightly and I turn to River and say "I had a headache come out of nowhere."

"Okay. Well lets get you to the nurse to lie down for awhile." Is all he said back to me.

We all walk to the nurses office in silence.

"Just text one of us if you need anything." River said before leaving and going to his next class along with Kyle.

"Okay." Is all I managed to say as I lay down on one of the cots.

I must have fallen asleep because when I wake up, I notice it's almost lunch time.

"How'd you sleep?" Asks River from the door, making me jump, because I didn't know he was there.

"It was good." I say as I get up from the cot. "I'm hungry. Let's go get some food and don't scare me like that." I say to him, walking to the lunch room.

We all get to the lunch room and sit down at our regular table, since it's now raining outside.

"You guys ready for the dance tonight?" Tanner asks.

"Hell yeah man." Kyle says. "Girls in short dresses. Who can't be ready for that."

"Dude, keep it in your pants." I say, rolling my eyes at him.

"I'm a dude. Its physically impossible for me to keep it in my pants when there's pretty girls in short dresses that almost expose everything." Kyle says back with a seductive voice.

"He's got a point." River says. Which earns him a smack from me.

"Ouch! Girl that hurt." He says rubbing his shoulder.

"Well don't agree with him then, especially when you're with me." I say with a serious tone and a death stare.

"Okay princess." He says, placing a kiss on my forehead.

"So about tonight, you guys all wanna meet up somewhere or just meet at the dance?" Asks Kyle.

"Well, Rose and I will be getting ready at her house, so I guess it's up to her." Kaylie says.

"You boys can pick us up at 5:00 from my house." I say.

"Okay, sounds like a plan then." River says.

"Okay, don't be late or else there will be consequences." I say, pointing a finger at each of the boys.

"Yes boss." They all say at once, which makes Kaylie and I laugh.

After lunch ended the rest of the day seemed to just fly by. Now we are all standing around the vehicles.

"So we'll see you guys at 5:00?" I ask just to confirm that they remember, before Kaylie and I climb into my truck.

"Yes, we'll see you then and don't be late." River says, mimicking what I had told him eailer that day.

With that we all climbed into our vehicles and went out separate ways.

We've been getting ready pretty much ever since we left the school. Which was an hour ago. So it is now four o'clock.

Once we get done getting ready, it is four thirty and Kaylie is dressed in a floor length dress that had red and white flowers all over and hangs off the shoulders. With her hair curled, flowing down her back and white eye shadow and red lipstick paired with white heels.

While I on the other hand am dressed in a black dress that ends just above the knees and has spaghetti straps. My hair curled and styled with part of it in a pony tail with black flower clips around it. I have done a smokey eye and red lipstick paired with a black pair of heels. We look ourselves over in the mirror one last time, making sure we are ready to go with only twenty minutes left until the guys come to pick us up.

"Dude we look hot." Kaylie says with a smile.

"I agree." I say

"Girls, are you done yet? I want to get a picture of you both before you leave." My mom yells up to us.

"We'll be right down mom." I say, as I turn to grab my purse and leather jacket.

"You girls look perfect." My mom says as we stand in the kitchen taking pictures.

Just then the door bell rings and the guys come walking in wearing tuxedos.

"Are you girls ready to go?" River asks as he takes my hand and leads me out the door with the others right behind.

"I think so." I start to say, when I look up and see "Is that a limo?" I ask with my mouth wide open in shock.

"Only the best for our girls." Kyle says as he leads Kaylie to the limo and opens the door.

"Ladies first." The guys say in unison.

"I can't believe you guys did this." I say.

River just smiles and puts his arm around my shoulders. As Kyle does the same with Kaylie, and Tanner just stares out the window.
