Chapter 10

2562 Words
Eric P.O.V. I sat in my room. Waiting. For the past twenty-four hours I've been waiting for them to come and take this miserable swine from my Serana. Just remembering the events that happened, It made me grind my teeth together and my blood boil in hot fury and jealousy. Hearing Prince Onyx taking Serana's tiny and delicate body. Hearing him Defile and taint her pure essence last night, in the room next to me... It made me sick to the core. Just hearing him moan and her crying out for more made me want to murder him. That should have been me loving her body! I nearly barged in the room, ready to end his worthless but I stoping myself. Too many things can go wrong acting out in anger. For example, me murdering Onyx. My father will report me to the guards and Serana will hate me. And I didn't want that. I needed a plan. After a hour, I remembered something. Something very vital, a key element for me to get my Serana. I remember being outside at the stalls buying food and I had seen the Prince's mug shot on a wanted poster, it said something about breaking a treaty with a neighboring kingdom. Perfect. My plan was to anonymously send a letter to the leader of the guard, telling them that the Prince was sited by the Doctor's home. Then they will come and drag him away, Serana will fall in love with me, we will build a life and family together and live happily ever after! It sounded perfect! The plan is fool proof and should work out as expected! All I had to do was be patient. ---- It's been several hours. It's nearly time for supper and I am growing impatient. Serana and the Prince has been locked up in the room doing who knows what and my father has been worrying about me. Asking me if anything is wrong with me. I told him I was fine but I knew he didn't believe me. I was pacing back and forth at the top of the stairs when I heard a knock on the door. My heart dropped to my stomach and my palms began to sweat. It has to be them. It's time! A sly smile crept on my lips. I hear my father downstairs walking to get the door. The door opens. Hello, gentleman. How may I assist you?." My farther Melvin's calm voice Rang out. " I, General Marksmen and my fellow guardsmen are here because because the Kings second, Sir Lazarus the huntsmen, heard you were harboring wanted people. Prince Onyx of Hailstein and the nomad Serana. If you are not willing to cooperate, we will be forced to kill you." I break into cold sweat as I hear those words from the guards men. Oh shīt. Since when was Serana a wanted person? What did she do?! This plan is falling apart! But I have to make sure she is safe. I rush into action, quickly but quietly making my way to Onyx and Serena's room. I opened the door. The two were already ready to go. They still wore the clothes they wore from last night. They both wore black cloaks and the hand made bags and things that they came with. Serana bright eyes were filled with terror, I can see her trembling under the heavy cloak and night gown that were way too big for her. Onyx on the other hand, stood tall and powerful. He looked very kingly and noble, I could feel the dominance and powerful Aura rolling off his body. His face was like stone but his eyes held a wide range of emotions in them that I couldn't read. Sir Onyx took a menacing step toward me, his eyes blazing like fire. "What's the meaning of this? Nobody seen us in the streets because it was empty and the guards weren't patrolling the area." He took another step forward until we were face to face. I had to look up to look him in the eye. His horns looking more menacing than usual. I gulped, trying to stay calm and collected as he continued. "You and Melvin are the only two who knows we are here in the city.. Did you- " "Stop, Onyx! He wouldn't do that to use! Plus, this is not the time to be arguing. What we need to do is exscape!" Serana took a step between us, being the voice of reason. Just hearing her defend me made me feel guilty. Shīt. The voices has gotten louder. My blood runs cold with fear at what I hear. "Gentlemen." My father's calm voice sounded out. " I assure you that I would never hold wanted people in my home. It would put my son and my medical practice in danger." I can hear the general's mocking tone in his voice." Oh, that vile creature? What was his name...oh, Eric right? He will be coming with me as well. I hear that he deflowered my daughter's. He has made things personal with me and I won't stand for that." I cringe as I hear those words above me. The all too familiar memory began to play back again in my mind. The girl was decent looking and most definitely not worth jail. Or worse.. The sharp pain of regret and dread filled me. "Look we have to leave. Are you coming or not? I know a secret way out." I whispered, I can feel my heart trying to beat out of my chest. They noded. I turn on my heels, heading down the hallway with the two following close behind me. I lead them to the opposite end of the hall. I opened the door to my father's study and closed the door behind us. The room was small. It held a desk with my father's study materials, a large shelf with ingredients and concoctions, a alchemy and mixing table beside it and in the far corner of the room as a enormous wardrobe. I made my way to the wardrobe, opening the wide double doors. I had to move the lot of clothes hanging up to get to the back. I took a step into the wardrobe and removed the back panel, revelling the secret stone stairs leading to my father's secret study. I look a step into the stone steps and turned to the two. The stared in awe but quickly followed me in. They began heading down into the darkness and I covered our tracks. When I was finished, I ran down the stairs until I got to the bottom. The secret study was smaller than the one upstairs. Almost looked exactly the same too, but there was a large old decaying door on the left side of the study that led to the sewers. My father never let me down here, it was forbidden for me to be here. My father used this study to make cures and elixirs for the small group of beggars living in the sewers. Father told me he was going to take me down here and meet them when he thought I was ready. I always felt as if he was hiding something... We paused to catch our breath. All we could do is stare at each other as we wait for my father and the guards to continue. "-I'm telling you sir, I have nothing to hide, please." My father pleaded. He sounded desperate, his voice shook the slightest bit. It sounded as if they were directly above is. The ceiling creaked as they moved the slightest bit. "Melvin, this is you're last chance to obey. Move. Aside. Now!" The general barked. It was silent for a second before my father spoke. "I will not." Immediately after saying that, I hear a sword being unsheathed and then a sickening of my father being impaled. "Blff-!" My father grunts as the blade plunges through him. Seconds later there was a heavy thud hitting the wood, and the last thing I hear from my father taking his final breath. His blood began to slip through the cracks in the floor and started to drip down in front of me. "Search." Was all I heard before I could feel the bile rising in my throat. I placed my hand over my mouth as I quietly sprinted to the old door to the sewers. I opened the door as quietly as I could before thrusting my body through the thrush hold. I could feel the damp murky air brush against my skin. The foul stench of the sewers filled my nostrils, almost making my stomach bust. I fled to the small stream of dark water and let the fluids leave my mouth and into the stream. As I heaved out more vile fluids, I can hear the sound of the old door close. The feeling of a small warm hand caressing my back almost made me feel the slightest bit better as I continue to sob and vomit. He is gone. The only only person that I call family is now gone. "Why?!..Father!" I wailed. I began to shake violently as I continue to cry. Crouch down to the grown, knees to chest, hands covering my face. Serana crouches down beside me and wraps her arms around me, her head resting on my back. Another hard cry rips through me. "Oh father, please forgive me!" I felt so sick. My father has just died because of me. If I would have never sent the letter to the guards this would have never have happened. He would be alive, living and taking care of me like any father would who loved his son. The only person that I loved was now gone. It was all my fault. I killed him. I killed the man who adopted me. He died a horrible death because of my jealousy. Now I will never see him again! My I sobbed a while longer before quieting down to mere sniffles. Serena's comforting warm embrace never left me. I felt so guilty trying to break her and the Prince up. She was such a loving and caring person. Even though he was oblivious to the fact that I tried to break her away from Sir Onyx. I began wiping my face with the hem of my tunic, still sniffling. "Serena I'm so sorry. This is all my fault." I managed to murmur out. Even though I only let out a murmur, it bounced off the stone walls around us, making it audible. I wrap my arms around my knees, not looking her in the face. "please forgive me." "A-are you telling me that you are behind all this?!" A surprised sounding Serana asks far behind me and not next to me. Then who?.. I sprang back to my feet, standing at full height. I looked back to see her and the Prince were standing by the door we came through. Onyx face was like stone again, his golden eyes were cold and murderous. Serena's orb like eyes stared back at me in shock. I look down beside me to see a woman I have never met before. She stood up with a gentle smile on her pink lips. She looked pretty young, maybe in her late thirties. Her straight chestnut hair came down to her waist. Her almond shaped chocolate eyes were in me. She was obviously a beggar. her clothes were ripped and dirty, they looked like they were made of the cloth from flour sacks. Her delicate olive colored wings folded. I had to blink a couple of times to comprehend what I was seeing. She resembled...me? "Who are you?" I ask her. Her gentle smile only got wider. "I'm so happy to see you doing well. I've missed you." She was smiling but I could see her blinking back tears, trying to compose herself. The women laid her tiny hand on my shoulder. "I heard everything through that old door, son. It's horrible that the doctor has died in such a way. But right now I'm concerned about you and your friends safety. Let's not waste any time. Please, follow me." She took a final glance at us before turning on her heels and walking to the small stone bridge to the right. She crossed it and made her way to the metal barred door. Son? I was still in shock about everything that happened. I didn't move until I was shoved forward by the incredibly furious prince. We followed the strange women through the sewers for what felt like a long time until we took a turn into a long dark corridor. At the end of the corridor was a wooden ladder that we did not hesitate to climb. The mystery woman removed the iron disk that stopped us from getting back to land and climbed through. The three of us close behind. We surfaced directly outside of the city walls. Around us was a large clearing with small farms and Inn's all around. It was dark. The moonlight shone down on us, the stars twinkling brightly. That's when I smelt it. Fire? I looked up to see tall flames and dark smoke filling the dark sky over the city walls. That's where I realized where I was. Just over those walls was my house burning down. I dropped to my knees. All I could do was stare. I felt empty. Void of all emotion. Everything that I knew was gone. My father, my home and everything was gone. It's all gone.. And it was all gone because of me. I let it all sink in. As I stare at the raging fire behind the city walls, the smoke almost choking me. For the first time in my life.. I wanted to die. From behind me I can hear the woman pleading to Onyx and Serana. She was asking them to forgive me, almost begging. Why? Why is she doing all this for me? She didn't even know me. I can hear Sir Onyx, his low voice saying how he should teach me a lesson for doing this to the doctor, But some how the women convinced onyx to leave me be. After a while, he finally gave up and left with Serana. It didn't phase me. All I could do was look down at the ground, my chest filled with apathy. I felt alone. For the first time in my adult life. But then I felt the women crouch down infront of me and pull me into her arms. She stroked my hair as she spoke. "I'm sorry. I trusted the doctor to take care of you and he has done his part. I didn't mean to leave you alone in this cruel world, but now I am here. I'll take care of you in your time of need." She whisper, I can hear the tears In her voice. She tightened her arms around me. "Your mother is finally here." My mother? ----- Omg so much ISH happened this chap. What do you feel about everything that happened? Why is Eric's mother showing up after all this time?
