Chapter 20

Onyx pov

My eyes open and I stare straight up at the stone ceiling. The small damp room I was in was lit with a single candle, enveloping the room with a soft light. The room smelt musty and was humid. When my eyes finally adjusted to the half lit room, I survey my surroundings.

It looked like I was in a basement. In one corner of the room was some wooden barrels which I presume had mead in them. In the other corner was a large shelf filled with food. The rest of the room was filled with plants of all shapes and sizes, they looked as if they were herbs. On the wall opposite of me was a shelf full of potions and elixirs.

I was laying on a large pile of hay, with a blanket over me and a pillow under my head. I try to sit up but a strong paralyzing pain radiated through my left shoulder and across both of my shoulder blades, I grimace in pain. Then a strong sense of anxiety and panic rushed through me.

Where was my Serana?

Were we caught?

Where are the others?

What if they were all dead?

Right when I was going to force myself up and look for the others, I felt a small movement beside me. I looked down to see Serana.

She was curled into a ball between me and the wall. She was looking up at me groggily at me but when she finally registered that I was awake, her eyes widen and she sits up quickly. She looked stunning even in her  groggy state. Her cool blue eyes look looks down at me and her small pink lips were pulled up into a small smile. She wore a loose yellow nightgown that fell off her shoulder, exposing my mark from when I first mated her. Her long wild curly chocolate locks fell over her shoulder, down to her hips. I let out a dreamy sigh, amazed by her beauty and happy she was safe. She placed her tiny hand on my cheek and caressed it. Just that tiny movement was enough to make my breathing hitch and my body spring to life. I could feel my body hardening at the simple touch, I brushed my hand over my hardness discreetly, trying to hide it.

"Hi." she whisper, smiling down at me.

"Hey, Angel." That earned me a kiss on the cheek and I beamed at her, I loved her so much.

"Where are we sweetheart?" I asked.

"We are in the city of Aervia, it took us a week to get here from what was left of Iversine." she say slowly, watching me carefully.

When she say that something clicked in my head. The last thing I remember was passing out after the attack on Iverstine. And when she spoke of arriving here in Aervia, she spoke in pass tense. How long exactly was I out for?

"We have been here for a week? How long exactly have I been out for?" I ask, shock lacing my low voice.

"Three weeks." she say simply.

All I could do was stare back at her in shock, astonished at what I was hearing. They let me sleep and waste time for three whole weeks. just thinking it mad a big mass of unease settle in my stomach. being in one place for a extended period of time was never a good idea, especially when you escaped prison and have a crazy Elf after your woman and was wanted throughout the whole province. before I could speak, Serana beat me to it.

"The wold journy hear, Eric and Ellis were able to keep you stable with their healing magic. We finally managed to find a doctor when we arrived here and he is willing to let us stay for free. He took a great liking to Ellis, and they have been totally inseparable. The only payment he wants from us is her hand In marriage. Since you and I are wanted people, we cant really leave the cabin unless disguised. Ysabelle is usually in the cabin, the dotor monitering hr pregnancy. During the day, Ellis is usually helps the doctor by running his stall in the market, as the doctor tends his patients." she says trying to distract me yet also informing me.

"Kyoto is always at my side, he almost act as if he is my bodyguard.. he has been teaching me to read and write. He came with us after the attack, he was the only survivor of Iverstine..." she trails off, sadness in her blue eyes.

"Also before I forget, Ellis potion worked. I'm not pregnant." she said with a small smile. I smiled back half relived half disappointed. It was truly an accident, I didn't mean to spill my seed in her. but Even though I wanted to wait until later when we were in a safe environment to have a child, it didn't mean I wasn't still excited and hoped that she was carrying my child at the moment.

"Excellent, honey... has anything happened with the Vampfariy?"

"Eric found his father." I couldn't help but gap at her words. who would have known we would find him here of all places? Another wave of unease filled my stomach.

"How did Ellis react?"

"She remained calm and collected, but you could still see the fear in her eyes. The Doctor went into Alpha male mode and wouldn't let the guy near her." she said "but everything was okay."

"Is his father any trouble?"

" No, he actually did us a favor so I guess he is not all bad. The only thing about him is that he is kind of strange.." she trailed off, rolling up to her feet and looking down at me through the darkness.

"Im going to get the doctor, Ill be back."

"Honey, wait. I have more questions."

"The Ill have Kyoto come in so that he will answer them, Its important that I let the doctor know so that he can tend to you." she turns on her feet and hurries out the door.

I curse under my breath as I watched her pretty behind go through the door. When the door closed behind her, I started working on getting myself to the sitting position. After about three minutes of hard work, pain, and a hell of a lot of cringing I manage to get myself to lean against the cold brick wall. I pressed my lips together and closed my eyes, waiting for the pain to go away from all that moving.

There was a knock on the door before it opened.

Kyoto strolled in wearing a plane blue yukata. His glossy black hair hung free down to his waste.  The delicate looking cat ears on his head stood tall and alert in my direction and his slim black tail swished left and right. He looked calm and somewhat bored but deep in his dark eyes it held annoyance in them.

He silently sat down on the ground on the ground with his legs folded neatly under himself. He looked down at me as if I was beneath him, as if he was better than me. He hasn't changed a bit since leaving Iverstine.

"Sadly, your awake. I hoped you would die of infection." He say sounding as posh and arrogant as always.

"Wow. I almost forgot how delightful you can be." I say sarcastically. I've only met the man twice back at Iverstine. Everytime I exited the mine, I always saw him around Serana and Elis. At first, I thought he was gay but soon I noticed him giving my Serana heart eyes. Even though I knew he had a thing for my woman, I allowed for him to be around her. I trusted Kyoto A Hundred times more than Eric, Plus I knew If something bad were to happen and I wasn't there, he would keep her safe.

"I could have been nicer, but you got my home destroyed and its people killed." When he say that I felt a sinking feeling settle in my stomach. s**t, I didn't mean for that to happen.

"About that.." I began to apologize but Kyoto cut me off.

"Don't worry about it, apologizing wont make anything better." He says nonchalantly before continuing. "I know who you really are. Serana told me everything."

"So you took over when I was out?" I say trying to change the subject.

"Yes. Ellis and I Took over. It was hard to get anything done with that woman because all she wanted to do was disagree with me, but then we finally agreed on taking the Horses and going to Aervia. The doctor has been keeping a Eye on you and the pregnant blonde chick, you know, Eric's girl. A week after arriving here The new king of oxindale somehow got permission from the king of Aervia to search for us. Erics father let us hide in his home outside of the city. After it was safe to leave, we snuck back to the doctors House."

"What do you mean 'The new King of Oxindale'?" I asked surprised, a bad feeling settling in my stomach.

"The old king died of pneumonia supposably. Its impossible to get pneumonia cause its summer, He was murdered. King Lazurus is in charge now, Serana told me about him too." he say displeased. I couldn't help but grind my teeth in anger and frustration, this elf guy just didn't know when to stop.

"What about Erics father?" I asked teeth clenched.

"Eric's father, Rashbane, Is a weird and suspicious character. He looks at men as if he wants to slaughter them and at women as if he wants to eat them. He and Eric are inseparable, always whispering to each other. I am convinced they are both Crazy psychopaths." Kyoto states, very displeased.

"So they just seem suspicious?"

"Well yes, but they get stranger by the day. I personally believe they are plotting against Serana."

"What?" My ears perk at the sound of my mates name being spoken. A strange surge of possessiveness and aggression fill my heart at his words. I grit my teeth in anger and ball up my fists, My horns itching for themselves to be buried deep inside of Eric's and Rashbane's chest.

"Sometimes I find them watching her, more often than other people. Rashbane usually whispers to eric when they do. They also invite her places with them but I never let her go with them alone." He say.

"Ok, good." I say satisfied with his words.

It was silent for a long while, and not in a comfortable way either. It was awkward and very uncomfortable. He watched me with cold eyes, the look of annoyance still on his face. It was obvious he didn't like me one bit. As time passed he grew more Irritated for some reason. His dark ears weren't alert anymore, they lay flat on his head now and his tail was now swishing left and right as if it had a mind of its own. his hands were resting on his lap but was balled into fists. whatever he was thinking about was really pissing him off, and I knew it had something to do with me.

"So you are teaching Serana how to read and write?" I ask trying to lighten the mood.

"Yes!" He hisses.

"What the hell is your problem? Ever since you got down here, you've been acting like you had something shoved up your ass." I snarled, tensing up my body ready to fight if I had to wither I was injured or not.

Before he could reply back there were three raps on tbe door before it swings open.

There stood before me was a human male. He stood about average height, average built and average looks. His skin was as dark as wood, his lips were full and hair was dreaded and fell all the way down his back. he wore a doctors tunic and trousers and a pair of thick rimmed glasses. In his arms are what looked like medical supplies.

The man soon picked up on the tension in the room and cleared his throat, giving us a awkward smile and a nervous laugh.

"Hello, Kyoto and Sir Onyx, am I interrupting anything" The man asks nervously.

Kyoto just stands and grumbles under his voice. Shoots me a glare before pushing pass the man and slamming the door behind himself.

It was quiet for a second before the man spoke.

"Im Doctor J, or you can just call me Jerome your highness. Can I have permission to touch you?" he asks quietly.

I nodded and he makes his way over next to me, laying his supplies neatly on the ground.

"That guy always seem like he is in a bad mood, haha.." Jerome commented before letting out a awkward laugh.

"Yeah, don't mind him." I say, sitting up from the wall, pain shoots through my upper body. I grind my teeth in pain.

"Noted. Im just going to check your wounds and redress them." he say. I just nodded and let him get to work.

After a long while of poking, probing, cleaning and redressing my wounds he helped me lay back down and stood up walking to his shelf of elixirs and came back over to me.

"Demons are truly fascinating indeed, your healing power is so fast that its mind boggling." he commented he uncorked the white flask and handed it to me.

"here drink this, it will ease the pain but it will make you drowsy." he say hading me the elixir.

take It and immediately downed the flasks contents. the effects of the elixir took affect instantly. all the pain I was feeling melted away and  My eyes began to droop drowsily. the last thing I remember was telling Doctor J to have Serana come Back in the room so that I could hold her, before falling into a deep sleep.
