Chapter 1. The call

1021 Words
The phone rings from the bedside table in Brice's dorm room making him stir awake. He groans before throwing a hand out picking it up to slam it back down not ready to get up. It's his weekend off from business school. He stayed out late partying living up his college days that are soon to be over. He rolls over on his stomach fast in falling back to sleep only for seconds later the phone to chime through the room again. "What the f*ck man?" He mumbles picking up the phone angrily "Yeah?" He barks through the line. "Not up yet?" The familiar voice aggravates. Brice is momentarily stunned having not heard from him since the day he left. It wasn't a great conversation he remembers all too well. He clears his throat before he replies. "And what do I owe the honor of your call Alpha?" He says sarcastically. Maybe with a tad of venom in his words. There's an audible low growl in his ear a warning to tread carefully but Brice is no longer the tread carefully guy he once was. "You will have your business degree in a week as the CEO of Claw Inc. I need you at the company as our new president. As the Alpha, your my Beta and elders request you take up your title and do your role or step down immediately." Wrath speaks through clenched teeth. Neither one wanting to face the facts. Time had gone by all but too quickly. Brice laughed coldly. "Can you even handle it? My return?" Brice sneers. "I'm not the one who ran off and abandoned his pack or do you recall?!?!" Wrath accuses. Brice recalls very well though he left back then because of the heartless words Wrath had injured his heart with. Things aren't the same now, are they? He thinks to himself. "Things have changed Wrath. As soon as I get my degree Im taking back everything that belongs to me. Believe that!" He slammed the phone down quickly ending the call with a cold laugh shaking his head. Wrath has no clue how the games have changed and Brice doesn't feel inclined to tell em. Wrath on the other end though is furious. Brice has gotten bold he's been gone so long he's even forgotten how to respect his Alpha. Wrath sighs and leans forward on his desk slamming his head in his hands. Things have been rough for the young Alpha over the last few years. He runs a huge marketing company and ever since he became Alpha things have gotten out of hand. He tried to restake treaties that his father forged before him with few to no advantage. They've even had more attacks from outsiders under his rein than any other Alpha in their history. On the business side, the last year's percentages haven't been where they need to be to achieve the success they need. He's just one wolf if things weren't so jumbled up he wouldn't even have called Brice to make sure he came back. The elders require his return. The Beta is supposed to take over some of the Alphas burdens as his right-hand wolf they do have a substitute but he's wasn't trained his whole life for the position and is only that a mere substitute to the real Beta. He sometimes thinks secretly the Moon Goddess has a grudge against him. He feels that she has ruined his life every step of the way. She has cursed him some way or another he believes. Like Brice. He once loved Brice as a brother. The brother he never had. Like all things the Moon Goddess curses everything he loves. She tarnishes it. Wrath gets up and leaves his office he has a huge meeting with all the elders of his pack. He hopes explaining to them their Beta will be back in a week will help extinguish some of their fire. They aren't happy with him of late and some have even discussed removing him from his Alpha claim. There are days when he would love nothing more than to not be so burdened. He doesn't want to be a failed though and he doesn't want to end his line of succession and be known as the Alpha that couldn't handle his own pack's needs.  It would be a disgrace to him and his family something he'd rather die than live with. when he walks into the room everyone immediately quietens. His presence can be felt immediately. He is a huge man that has an aura of dominance and confidence where ever he goes. He goes and takes up his seat before the elder counsel waiting their mass amount of questions. His head begins to pound the stress lately has him all out of sorts. He doesn't eat well. Sleep is limited to around five hours a day. He's been pushing past the ordinary limits of someone of his station. He has no Beta nor a Luna.  Time is dwindling the elders soon will take measures into their own hands removing him from his title and everything he's worked hard for. He can't help thinking making his head worse. "Wrath anything new you can address the elder council with today?" Elder John questions. The elders love and respect their Alpha. They pressure him but only for the good of the pack.  Wrath nods at his elders and decides to give them some hopeful news they've been inquiring over the last two years. "I have officially contacted Beta Brice he will have his degree at the end of the week and return to the pack to take up his duties as Beta and president of the Claw Inc. company."  He waits for their reactions. Smiles dance their faces and nods to one another give him some relief. "We are sincerely glad to hear such news we hope that together you will get this pack back on track immediately." He clasps his hands together overly joyed. Only Wrath knows what hardships he will face having Brice here. The bond of mates can be ruthless.
